You should do the London Eye, definitely, and the museums and galleries are as good as Jen said, and all free. Tate Britain, Tate Modern especially.

For going out, Camden is brilliant fun (the market is fun as well), and Old Street is the current trendy place to be seen. Brick Lane is good for a cheap but decent curry, but there's loads of good restaurants around - try Time Out for listings. Islington is pretty hip too, loads of bars and food there, and as Mel said Notting Hill is good. We found some great chili mayo there, if nothing else.

Hell, I dunno. There's so much great stuff here. Ask Benji and Jo as well, and I think PIxie Steve lives round this way.

Get some Thai and Indian food! They have the best anywhere. Do NOT try their Mexican, and certainly not the quesadillas. As you may have surmised, they don't even know what they are! For shame.

I can't remember any of the restaurants I went to though. Damn time zombies' been eatin' mah brains.

If you like true punk or goth or industrial pubs and clubs, SpudBoy used to know of a few places. Might be all "style" and no substance now though. Like everywhere else, it seems.

[edit] It was a joke! I added winky-bit, cause I really don't want to offend anyone!

I also plead original ignorance, but there has beeen mny picture and in the name of science I looked them up.

IMO you should also visit brick lane (i think it was-someone else will clear that up) for a balti of sorts, I had a great one there after the bodyworlds exhibition, it's all a bit foggy now though, I really was incredibly drunk at the time.

still though, mmm balti.....

You must bear in mind though any london balti will be but a pale imitation of those from birmingham, the home and heart of the balti, aw geez, it's uh 5.30 am and I have chicken tikka massala cravings, it's really not good.

Floop,

Great to hear you visiting these humble shores.
But in December?
What ARE you thinking!?!

English winters are shit.
Not the shit, just plain old runny poo.

But seriously, I’m a little biased cause I had 2 winters in a row, culminating in the London winter, and it was horrible.
I’m thinking I’m going to enjoy this one a whole heap more.

But I digress.
London winters can be fun – but only if you drink copious amounts of beer, but you seem up for that so you should be sweet.

Must-See Parts of London:
Greenwich – the best place in London full-stop. A piece of the country within the big city. Also has got a fabulous microbrewery pub called the Greenwich Union which has fantastic chocolate beer and white beer…also their golden is pretty top notch. Noodle Time is also a very very good Chinese restaurant. And cheap too.
Rotherhithe – It has the oldest pubs in London, and it’s right on the Thames to boot. My favourite is the one with a little outside balcony with the Thames lapping at your feet and a noose hanging from a beam a couple of feet from your head from when they used to hang naughty sailors in the 1800’s. Also has a slightly newer pub which serves Samuel Smith’s beer – the best beer in all of Britain – especially their Oatmeal Stout which tastes as though it has come straight from heaven.
Blackheath – the second best microbrewery in London which also serves fantastic pizzas and pastas…and you can buy 5 and 50 litres takeaway kegs – which is something I have never seen anywhere else in London. If you’re looking for something a bit fancier, this is the place to go. We went there last Saturday evening and I was wearing shorts and sandals and I have ever felt so underdressed in my life. Was quite funny actually. Also has a fantastic park, but that’s secondary.
Borough Market – an amazing food market near London Bridge. Is the top destination for Londoners, and once you visit it, it’s easy to see why. An absolutely amazing selection of food from round Britain and the world…the best bit is that every stall has testers of their goods…FREE YUMS! Their stuffed pheasant roasts are very nice – but be careful cause the shotgun shot can wreck havoc with your teeth!

Just a wee selection from South London which has a great deal to offer – so don’t listen to cretins such as cheeseman.

I won’t mention Uncle Wrinkle which is the best Chinese takeaway/restaurant in the world, cause that’s Jo’s territory and she’ll tell it better.

But I’ll try to buy you a beer over here floop, but we’re actually leaving London/UK in January so are travelling from mid-December onwards….think we’ll be between Scotland and Eastern Europe round that time so ya never know.

Hang him in Rotherhithe!

By the way floop, watch out. The London music scene is going through an interesting phase at the moment. Loads of new bands are coming out with a very DIY approach to music. Guerilla gigging is the latest craze at the moment. Bands just play gigs anywhere and at any time. I mean London is a big place so you may be lucky to catch one but I believe New Cross is where a lot of these bands are coming from. One band in particular called The Others played a gig on a tube train the other week. They just ran on the tube, followed by a gaggle of fans who had received word by SMS, and played a few songs in the crushed carriage using a mini amp and a megaphone. They also played one a week later up a tree, in a park. It sounds really cool, I wish that sort of thing was going on in Manchester. Hmmm, now there's a thought.

The Rough Trade record shop is there as well, which is one of the best in town.

Go to Camden, buy some Colombian shrooms from the Camden Mushroom co. and then go play with all the toys in Hamleys! And since you'll be there with your girlfriend - go take her to Agent Provocateur for an underwear trying on session (expensive stuff but you won't forget it!)

I am in London right now and I definitely recommend a party called the School Disco (check out schooldisco.com.

It is very very UK.

Otherwise two very good restaurants are Momo's Restaurant (Moroccan food and beautiful women) and the Sketch (amazing decoration and beautiful women).

We went to two night clubs, China White and Roof Garden, which I didn't like at all, but they are allegedly "the place to be".

PS - Cheesy, I think you gave me a wrong phone number, I tried to call you...

The food market in Borough is pretty cool, in fact the south bank is a really nice walk, you start off at Tower bridge and end up at the Tate Modern. The book market and street performers are worth checking out.

Hahaha, I can't believe Monsieur went to School Disco. I cannot imagine you enjoying that at all. Well except for all the women dressed in skimpy school uniforms, sucking on lollipops.

reminds me of blue light disco's from many years back.
but slutty girls in school uniforms sucking on lollipops certainly seems like a good reason for going to me.

Any way, you mean to say that they dont have school discos any where else?! Thats crazy! Every where i go theres always school discos. hmm, never thought it was just a uk thing. Theres a great one in Brighton. In fact, you would have a lot more fun in brighton.

Yes.
Cheeseman's just got an inferiority complex about it - like all British people.

Hard to believe in this day and age, but yes, all pubs close at 11pm.
last call is usually made at about 10:45pm.

it's very weird, but always means you get home early for a good night sleep.
also fuels the great british tradition: Binge Drinking.

I dont have an inferiority complex!

If you know where to go the pubs will have a late liscense, if not, just head on to a club. My plan is always :start early, drink as much as possible.

Nothing to see, nothing to hear,
Nothing to be, nothing to fear,
Nothing to prove, nothing to say,
Nothing to lose, nothing to gain,
Nothing to feel nothing to hate
Nothing is real, It's all too late
What do you do when nothing's wrong?

Unfortunately most of those pubs with late licences have themes and a dance floor and a DJ who thinks he can mix mainstream dirge and make it sound good and are frequented by sharons and kevins all of whom will be wearing tops that cost a pound and kappa tracksuit bottoms off the market with three buttons undone to show off their respective white stilleto's/timberlands.

Chav's man, chavs.

Like we said, if you know where to look most pubs stay open, and you can find a club to suit if you wish. Areas like Camden and Shoreditch, most bars are open til two.

So, I finally got my X-Wing
