Agreed, SnS. MAny congrats to Frank and Violet. I wonder what the impact on his muse will be? An album of lullabies??

it's a damn good article
even better than the absolute great pixies story (the pixies bible to me) of Mojo some years ago

one interesting thing i noticed from the scans on pixiesmusic was that this picture http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v58/sleepwalk_dance/100_0650.jpg shows that "boom chicka boom" has always been the titile of said track.
useless info, but just something i noticed...

I just registered for that pixiesmusic.com board and I gotta say I'm glad that the good old frankblack.net board isn't so loaded up with loud colors and avatars and big gaudy signature images screaming at you everywhere. I got a new appreciation for this board.
Back on topic: Great article. Better than I ever would've expected from Spin. I especially liked the bit where Frank talks about his early opinion of Nirvana and his own outsider snob tendencies. |

not to "derail" the topic, but i gotta agree jason. pixiesmusic.com is just too cluttered with smiley faces and big avatars and the like. it's got some good stuff there, but it's a bit tricky to see through all the rubbish.
but back on topic - anyone in the UK seen the mag yet or know if it reaches these shores? i can't remember ever seeing it anywhere, but it was easily obtainable in NZ, so i'd have thought it was available here.

I just bought it this morning in Toronto.
The thing about the romantic relationship was interesting. I never gave much thought to the stupid rumours of them having sex but the way that no one wanted to talk about it is making me think maybe something did happen.
This is by far the best article on the pixies ever written. You can tell who ever did the interviews is a huge pixies fan and knew the right questions to ask and the right things to include.

I just hope I can find it here in Portugal! No one knows Spin magazine, I´m worried because I think I won´t be able to find it! And it´s not easy to read it as it is on pixiesmusic. Can someone scan it and send here? So that we can read it better?

I'm about half way through now,it's fab.Really.Not gonna try and spoil it too much for the rest of you by talking about it loads.But....
1. I'm really disappointed about that whole "naked pixie one each album cover" thing falling through. For 1 reason only.Take a guess... 2. Joey says it's inevitable that they're gonna record a new album.I like joey. 3. Pixies world is mentioned, and the guy who started that other thread about the new album mentioned it.....or was it just common knowledge before? 4. Great quote "No-one sounds like the pixies"
"I joined the Cult of this guy / 'cause they took my other picture away |

That's just a set list for a radio show,I'm fairly convinced that they didn't cover "watch what you're doing" anyway, there isn't really any evidence for it.Also,Gary Smith says the purple tape was in fact only 17 songs long,Kim says 16 or 18.I dunno, maybe there wasn't actually another song?

Me too. I think the Pixies should write a song about a superhero named Joey. They could call it "Joey's Theme."

Interesting concept...i like it.Would this superhero have any particular mode of transport that he would ride in a peculiar fashion?I dunno maybe he could ride around on a pony as if it was a bicycle?

I'm guessing naked Joey. He's super, and he's my hero.
quote: I dunno maybe he could ride around on a pony as if it was a bicycle?
Well, I was actually thinking he could ride his bike like a pony, instead of the other way around. On second thought, he could just instantly transport himself to any location he likes by fiddling with his amplifier. Superheroes don't need transportation. |

Anyone know if this is on newstands in the US yet or do people that have Spin subcriptions the only ones with it? I looked for it a couple of local spots today but couldn't find it. One guy said to check back next week.... thanks for your help! |

It's on news stands in Canada and considering we get everything later than the US then it should be available in the US as well.

OK I found it last night at Borders. Sometimes those smaller local places don't have it right away. Thanks!
I thought the article overall was very cool. I learned a lot. It was neat how they put all the quotes together from all of those people to make an oral history. The pictures were also very cool. It would have been better if it would have focused less on the Frank/Kim tension and the break up and more on the music, but it was still cool. I think my favorite parts were hearing about the bands early days and how Steve A. got the sound he did. It was cool hearing how COP got its name, about Kim's family, about how Joey sometimes needs to use a dictionary and where David L. was at when he recieved a call that the P's were getting back together. I hope Spin follows up on this article in a year or so. |

Not to sound cliche, but having a kid totally changed my life and I can't imagine that it won't change Charles'. One would hope that he will still create his amazing music. I can't imagine that he'd let parenthood change that core aspect of himself.
I still believe in the excellent joy of the Frank |

Well the Johns in They Might Be Giants had some kids and they haven't slowed down at all. That may keep us hoping. I know Frank admires those guys.

I did read an interview with Gary Smith where he did refer to a song not included on the Purple Tape that they recorded. He said he had it locked away in a closet. He could have been joking around. Maybe not.

i read that whole thing on there and my eyeballs hurt now.
it seems like a lot (all) of those quotes are taken out of context. sometimes with articles like that they will put the date of the quote next to the person's name to give some idea of when it was said.

Yah, and not get off topic but TMBG did a really cool kids' music CD, though my kid prefers Frank's tunes to the songs on that album. She's not 3 yet and she asks me to "play 'we're going higher' mommy," and I have to correct her and tell her "It's called 'Hang Wire,' honey, get your Frank songs straight!!!!!!" It's so hard being a parent sometimes!
