k, i finally bit the bullet and downloaded this puppy...
Wow, me likey.
One especially nice feature is the tabbeb browsing.. I now hit 'Active Topics', then open all the topic i wanna read in tabs, and then read 'em once i've done scrolling down the Active Topics. Very sweet and convenient.
I'd open two 'New Windows' with IE, read 'em, then do a couple more so the taskbar wouldn't get too cluttered....
Hope this helps your experience on FB.net!

i got firefox, using it now infact. i like the tabbing and the download manager, not to mention it's more secure than IE. also seems to be faster at rendering websites, although with forums it seems to do it.. differently, to IE. |

I've been an Opera guy for several years now. They had tabbed browsing, built-in pop-up blocking, mouse gestures, and other cool features before any of the other players. Only drawback is you have to pay to get rid of the ads, but I love it so much I was happy to do so. |

I've just got firefox, I've been meaning to move away from IE for a while. It's good. I'm having trouble with text sizes though. Everything looks comparatively normal, except the text I'm typing now, which is almost unreadable.

I use Safari (an Apple Browser) and it has tab browsing and a pop-up blocker. Occasionally I run into forms that aren't compatiable with it, but not very often. |

My wife uses Opera. I can't get into it.

I've been using Mozilla for a while now. Love it.
I suppose I should check out Firefox

I've been using Firefox for a couple of weeks now and overall I like it...tabbed browsing is a very nice feature. Instead of having 15 IE windows open of different stuff, I keep a couple Firefox windows open with related tabs (news, music, etc.). Makes things a lot easier.
I'm with misleadtheworld though, the text sizes are a little weird and annoying. I can't get them just right like I could with IE...some websites are misalligned and such because of that.
I guess I just wasn't made for these times. |

I'm using Maxthon (formerly known as MyIE2), which has tabbed browsing and pop-up blocking, but also supports the Google & Roboform toolbars, which I am a fond user of... I have yet to test the Yahoo toolbar with it. The new website says it's supported.

I'm sure the next version of IE will have tabbed browsing and pop-up blockers..it'll be interesting which direction i'll go..
My main complaint with FF is it doesn't really 'look' as pretty as IE..IE renders the pages more nicely..especially tables. I never liked the 'Netscape' look of webpages. Otherwise it's pretty good overall!

I believe browsers like Maxthon are still using the IE engine to render web pages. It's little more than a "skin" on IE. Thus I would think you are still vulnerable to the new IE security holes that show up every few weeks. Also you are likely to get adware/spyware using the IE engine. For those reasons, I like a browser that's not married to the OS. |

you can download different themes for Firefox - go to Tools, then Themes. I've got Qute at work, can't remember what at home.
I use Safari most of the time, but as our new shops at work are web-based, I can't get it to work quite properly in Safari, so use firefox for that... I've never really tried it for much else cause I love safari... |

I used Firefox for a month or so but I went back to IE because I couldn't use certain web pages that make extensive use of Javascript or whatever. Attempts at retrofitting Firefox with these goodies was frustrating. I don't need artificial frustration, I get plenty of the real thing. So I'm happy again with my bloated IE.

Firefox tip #1 : With those of you with a centered wheel mouse, click on any link with the wheel button, and the page automatically comes up in a tab. No more right-clicking or using a menu option. |

Here is a cool feature I'm sure Mozilla and Firefox will have in the future: http://www.opera.com/features/mouse/
At some point after that it will probably be a Microsoft "innovation". |

I don't know...that would take some getting used to. I can imagine many annoying instances of having the webpage you're on changed or whatnot from minute movements of your hand or an accidental right-click of an oversensitive mouse button. (I'm sure after you got used to it it'd be cool.)

as long as web sites are generally made to be viewable in/compatible with IE, i shall be sticking with it.
i don't see people's problems with IE really... or windows... seems like more hassle than it's worth to change. and if your life is being improved *that* much more by changing to a new browser, you probably need to get out a little more.
but good luck kids!

Some people use computers alot more than others. I'd have to say I'm fairly obsessed with them, because I like trying out new software and applications. (Especially free ones!)

Apparently you don't work a job where you remove adware/spyware from machines daily because people use IE. The shit installs itself through IE without them ever knowing. And the whole issue of compatibility is a myth. Just about the only time I ever have to open IE is to go to Microsoft's support site (which renders the search field unviewable if you use another browser-- probably done intentionally). |

I have used Mozilla before, with Linux, but I hadn't used Firefox until I read this thread. I have to admit, I rather like it, although the only "compatibility issue" that I have had is with an online class I'm taking. (Which is somewhat to be expected; the fields didn't transfer to Firefox, thus not showing all the progress I've made in the class.)

I use Opera and love it. It can't load a few pages but I use IE for those few. I also use version 6.0 b/c I found the latest version to be a bit buggy and there are no ads.

IE uses just as much RAM as Firefox does...if you have, say, more than 3 windows open.
I guess I just wasn't made for these times. |

I've had a play with the settings in Tools > Options > Fonts and Colours and got it to look about right....or, at least, as close as possible for now. Try this:

Heads up, new patch..
Found my first incompatablity with Firefox..i can't send money through Paypal with it.. I tried several times, but it kept choking..had to fire up IE.
The tabbed browsing is *so* worth it otherwise tho..
Now i'm building sites that look a little better in FF rather than IE..that's weird for me.

Has anyone ever had the fonts completely change for certain sites without any significant reason. It was perfect yesterday, but this morning it was all messed up. It's happened to me and i can't get it back to the way it used to be. Sites like ebay and wikipedia now look like horrific head on word collisions. Some site menus are missing too. Any ideas...?

I don't think it's a compatibility issue. Firefox has always worked perfectly for me, Until know. Some sites that i had problems with (including the frankblackforum.net) have returned to normal. I'll just have to try them again tomorrow and see if they go back to how they were
(Oh, and sorry for disappointing people on the Dave Noisy situation)

Do you have any extensions installed? I selectively control which sites can use scripts and I also sometimes turn off stylesheets (CSS?). If you have any extensions that might affect either of those (like NoScript), that could be the culprit. Personally, I have seen some inconsistencies about Firefox's display of sites. Most sites are indistinguishable from the IE version, but now and then, a site will have been extremely IEcentric in its design, and Firefox has trouble rendering it.
I second PixieSteve's recommendation. When all else fails, you might choose to allow that gaping security vacuum called IE to share a tab with Firefox.
Some questions for fellow Firefox users. Remember spyware? That stuff was annoying. So were popups. Also, I didn't like having to deal with banner ads everywhere. That used to be a pain in the ass. Remember?

Right now at present Opera is the safest browser out there. Also, from a personal perspective, the easiest to use.
