yesterday i was listening to a FB solo acoustic, where he performed bullet. i somehow skipped the first seconds, and i really thought nimrod's son would start. i have absolutely no ear for music in terms of chords and so on, but it sounded exactly the same. maybe it was more the guitar strumming, i don't know. maybe some musically talented/educated person on this forum can comment. same thing for a part in ramona / abstract plain. when he goes for "..i want to live on an abstract plain", i always follow up with "..i don't care if they are real or pseudo". is it just me ?
okay, somehow pointless, but i thought i drop that in.

Nimrod's and Bullet do start on the same chord, you know. After that they are nearly similar, I suppose, but backwards. Nimrod's goes down, Bullet comes up. I don't know. I can hear it, although I've never had the same thought until now.

They both start on C#m, right? That's about the only similarity I can discern.

On the Astoria bootleg from 2001 he starts to play the intro from Nimrod, getting the crowd excited but then jumps into the bullet intro - i think Frank was acknowledging that they sound similar. Of course then after Bullet was over guess which song he played next - yep Nimrods son
3rd Annual Australian Frank Black Countdown August 2003 - all involved parties rank EVERY released FB song from FB self/titled to the present - average ranks are calculated - beer (or suitable substitute) is added (mostly in drinking-game form - ie. rate a song well below its average and you drink a punishing amount), then sit back and enjoy a day of frank black....the only problem is quite often memory of the top songs is somewhat limited the next day |

Half the songs written by Frank start on C#m anyway.

Yeah, it's very similar and I'm sure he's aware of that. It's a great little song in it's own right, actually...."I saw how you did that, Scott!" |

Is it true 'bullet' was written around the time of the (good old days) Pixies? |

bullet was written after his father died in the late 90's.

i suppose it's possible he'd had the song kicking around since, as you put it, "the good old days" and added the lyrics later like he did with dits.
