Don't know if this has been mentioned already, but over the weekend they announced the title to the last star wars movie....Revenge of the Sith.

As a huge SW fan, I have to say I'm happy. It echoes the origional name of return of the jedi, which was revenge of the jedi. It sounds dark and mean, which the film should be, and isn't nearly as silly of attack of the clones. That last two movies had some major faults, but I still have silly fanboy faith that this one will be a redeemer. So, for the record:

I The Phantom Menace
II Attack of the CLones
III Revenge of the Sith
IV A New Hope
V The Empire Strikes Back
VI Return of the Jedi

Kerry in a landslide!

I doubt it will be better than The Empire Strikes Back, which is my favorite Star Wars film.

Yeah, I really like the title, too. Revenge of the Sith, Return of the Jedi. Beautiful.

I was okay with the Phantom Menace as a title (and I quite enjoyed that movie). Don't get me started on Attack of the Clones, though...

Who are you kidding? It's gonna suck, just like everything George Lucas has touched post-Jedi 1983. The man has clearly lost it. I'm convinced he stumbled upon the magic and power of the first Star Wars trilogy by accident. And then he went and fucked it all up with the Special Editions. We all know Greedo shooting first blew ass, but you gotta admit that there wasn't anything truly good added, save for maybe cleaning up some of the original special effects. I wasn't all that happy with ANY additions made to those films Mos Eisley went from being rather seedy to having all this playful Jawa shit, it wasn't nearly as scummy. And the dance sequence in Jabba's place was all jokey and kiddie, too. And the music sucked. I preferred the anamatronic Sy Snoodle over the CGI. The only good thing was the restored scene with Biggs and Luke talking before taking off from Yavin to attack the Death Star.

I think it's an insult to Star Wars fans that the DVDs are only going to be the Special Editions with EVEN MORE changes! What the fuck!?!?!?!?!?!?!??!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!!?!

Not to mention that the prequels have been all about cashing in on the popularity of characters such as Boba Fett. That whole Stormtrooper cloning from Jango Fett is such crap. Boba Fett didn't even appear in the first draft of Empire Strikes Back, he was more of an afterthought. He never was meant to be a key player in the story. But since he's got such a following, they totally altered the story to make it so ALL stormtroopers are Fett's, which I don't believe for a second. I'm certain they were originally supposed to be individuals. And Jango Fett was a shitty character anyway.

George Lucas should have died before he could ever begin botching his masterpieces. Rot in hell, Lucas!

Fuck yeah! You don't fuck with a masterpiece, even if and ESPECIALLY if it's your own. I betcha Lucas doesn't know the first thing about why Star Wars was so good. He's on the inside looking out, he can't see it. He's the last person that should be messing around with it, cuz he doesn't have the faintest idea on why the original trilogy was so brilliant. He just sees what he deems flaws and wants to correct those and make the films more family oriented, and in the process he has sterilized the story and tone so much. Look at Attack of the Clones. See what a cheesy ass love story they have there. Amadala: Don't look at me that way? Anakin: Why? Amadala: Because it makes me un-com-for-tab-le. UGH! How fucking dumb is that!?! Compare it to the developing of Han and Leia's love story in Empire Strikes Back, written by the astoundingly brilliant mind of Leigh Brackett. She also wrote Rio Bravo. Unfortunately, she died shortly after writing the first draft of Empire. If we had her around nowadays, we would have gotten such better films. Even if dumbasses like Hayden Christianson were still in the film, it would be better. Actually, Hayden as Anakin did have on the only good moments in the new trilogy, and that's when he's telling Amadala, "I killed all of them. And not just the men, but the women and kids." That was Darth Vader coming out. That was awesome.

By the by, there's a torrent of the upcoming DVD of Jedi up on the sites, with the changes. The transfer looks beautiful, like it was filmed yesterday, the lightsabers have been recolored and look very good. There are a couple of changes. When vader is unmasked, his eyebrows have now been removed for some reason and his eye color has been changed, during the end celebration scenes, Naboo has been added and the jedi temple and senate are now visable in the background of the coruscant scene, and when the ghost fade in at the end, its hayden christensen now playing anakin, instead of sebastian shaw. All in all, it looks great. I've been noticing so many things in the background that have never been visable before.

Clips and still have come out of the other two movies, too. Greedo still shoots first, but it looks less akward, jabba has been redone, ana a bounch of effects have been enhanced, boba fett has been redubbed by the guiy who did jango's voice, and the big one, the Emperor in TESB has been replaced with Ian McDermit, who played him in all the other movies, with new dialogue. I like the changes. many wi;ll not. And that's okay.

Kerry in a landslide!

George Lucas is overrated. Empire is generally agreed to be the best of all the movies, and he had very little to do with that one. Coincedence? I think not.

I dig the title for the new movie, though. It'll still be a CGI wankfest with horrible acting and dialog, no doubt.

I guess I just wasn't made for these times.

I'd like to echo the sentiments of Tar Tar. I used to love all things Star Wars, but after seeing the first two episodes, it's really put a damper on my enthusiasm.

Having said that however, I absoulutly loved Timothy Zahn's novel trilogy, "Heir to the Empire", "Dark Force Rising", and "The Last Command". He recreates the Star Wars universe perfectly. I'd take re-reading these over having to watch Lucas' pre-trilogy ever again in my life. Although I suppose I should proabably check out Revenge of the Sith, just because....

hahaha. Good one, shineoftheever.

Now the strange thing about Natalie Portman... I don't think she's anything special. Never have. She seems like a know-it-all or something. Gets on my nerves.

Holy crap that's a beautiful picture of her. I've had a huge crush on her since I first saw her sans the makeup. And moreso after hearing her speak in interviews.

Keira's got the accent, but I'd go with Natalie for her smarts. Or lack of bubbleheadedness at least.

Yeah, Daisy, I remember that too which is part of what makes the new title so appropriate. The title for ROTJ was changed 'cause Lucas felt that Revenge wasn't a very Jedi-like thing to do. It is, however, exactly what the Sith are all about and what they've been wanting for a couple thous... holy crap, I can't stop looking at Natalie Portman up there...

<whew>

Ummm... what else. I also loved the Thrawn trilogy as well as the X-wing novels (though they took some time to grow on me... who the hell is Corran Horn?!)

As far as debating the merits of Star Wars and/or Lucas' role in them and in advancing cinematography, I'm not going to go through that again.

I AM, however, setting that picture of her as my background. I don't care how blurry it is.

The title isn't bad, but I gave up on this franchise a long time ago. I can't believe he's doing 3 more.

Oh, I would rather Keira Knightley over Natalie.

The Lord of the Rings was an epic novel trilogy before it was a movie trilogy, though. That doesn't count.

Really, though. Star Wars is special because it was so original. He didn't need to bring a book alive, he created something.

Wasn't Star Wars largely a retelling of different legends? I liked it (I liked it alot when was 9 years old), but don't think it was particuarly original.

I think they would be better off if they tried to make an entertaining movie rather than a cool or spectacular movie.

I think it would be hilarious to see a Michael Moore-esque "documentary" about Star Wars and it's politics and stuff.

I don't think Carrie or Natalie are all that hot. When I saw Phantom Menace in theatres, my friend who had already seen the film once leaned over to me and basically said, "See, what I'd tell you? Young Anakin is a pimp; that hot girl is all into him". I remember thinking, "I hadn't noticed that girl was particularly hot." She's just some girl.

Yay! I'm cool.
Maybe I should change my name to Hobbitroller or something.

I used to get a huge kick out of Star Wars when I was... let's say between the ages of 10 and 15. (I was 13 when the Return of the Jedi came out and still thought it was the coolest thing, despite all the Ewok stuff. Or stuffed Ewoks.)

But now I'm 34, what can I say? When I saw Episodes, er, lemme see, 5 and 6 again last year, I was surprised at how dire I found it all.

Who knows, when I'm 55 I might think LOTR sucks eggs...

Let's see how badly Lucas fucks up on this one. I'm barely looking forward to this one. I've been too disappointed by the other's. I mean Yoda fighting is cool and all, but I prefer the puppet to the digital Yoda they had in episode II.
