Thanks to you I now have another part. I got a bass for my birthday last night and added a bassline to it this morning...tell me what you think! Ah, and please excuse the rough mix of the weird guitar solo thing..I need to learn to mix properly so there isn't the static when there's a lot going on at once..haha...

Right click and save as...
ftp://ntgepper:081288ntg@ftp.zoominternet.net/web_files/Music/Nathan%20Gepper%20-%20Untitled%20Song%20Mixdown%205.mp3

Again, thankyou very much for the suggestions and kind words. I'll come up with lyrics and weird guitar noises soon, I hope.

I think it sounds friggin great! Wish I could play guitar, I think I'm going to buy an acoustic/electric and start taking lessons. The song sounds very Frank Blackish (which is fine). Just add some lyrics and make it happen!

Heh, thanks very much for the kind words. I'm not sure what the mood of the song is...Maybe I should just throw together words that sound cool like Charles, hehe.

I think Black Francis was right when he said that songs just kind of flow through the air and you have to pick them up..or something along those lines. I'm too lazy to dig up the quote right now..heh.

That is the first song of your that I have heard Nathan and I am impressed. My guitar playing skills (or lack of) have been put to shame by someone almost half my age.

I fell sad now.

I cannot really offer any suggestions on where to go with it, just wish you good luck in taking it where you want it to go.

Crouton, this song is very pretty. I could fall asleep to it. I have listened to other songs on your site. You are really a great guitarist!

Heh, thanks. Any ideas for how to make it better?

(And I'm not really that great of a guitarist, haha.)

you know what I like about this - usually with a song you can predict the next note and that isn't always a bad thing - in fact, that's true with most good songs. But with this one it's always just a little different than what I expected would come yet it's just right. Good freaking show!

sure I just told you that on Aim, but I felt the need to show support in public. Your work just keeps getting better and better. Next thing you know you'll be writing albums of greatness.

Are you my bitch now or something? I thought I was your bitch. Thanks for being nice, though. Although you seem a bit imposing...

By the way, imposing? Unreasonable probably; it's just ocurred to me that it's 4am and most normal people are probably sleeping. The boards have been dead lately though.

Ok - listened to the song. The beginning has the essence of Los Angeles - (the beat of the chord progression)...

I don't think that you should change anything, other than adding a melody and perhaps some extra atmospherics (guitar noises, weirdy effects). What I mean is something that is unusual but not muddying up the song.

It's good that you didn't go to the massive distortion road that has been done too many times before.

I would go the Ten Years After approach in regards to melody. They wrote this song in the 60's called 'I'd Love to Change the World' and I think that it would be applicable in this instance (the chorus of the song, not the verses). You can go to the link and listen to the chorus at this addy - (http://66.102.11.104/search?q=cache:yuAhCyNevoMJ:www.artistdirect.com/music/artist/songs/0,,500675,00.html+i%27d+love+to+change+the+world+ten+years+after+mp3&hl=en)

Thankyou very much, begeegs! Mmmm...weird guitar noises. I'm going to go to that address now and listen to it, hehe.

I like it, it's good. Very Trompe/Orange. Maybe some cheesy creepy 'oooh's' would give it some more atmosphere.

Edit: ....also, you HAVE to put a theremin in that!

I wish I had a theremin...Most everyone with a theremin is automatically cool..

Thankyou all for the ideas. Creepiness it shall have, yes.

Sounds good Nathan. I particularly like the break around the 2:00 minute mark, with the nice guitar solo-type-run thing right afterwards.

If anything, your playing might be overshadowed at points by the strange phaser guitar effects. I really like how it transforms and isn't stagnant. Anyways, nicely done.

nice one Crouton. Can definately here the Frank in there. reminds a little of the 'Hang..Ego' single b-tracks.
really nice chord progression and that little riff is so floaty. i think its one of those songs that would sound even more complete with a cool floaty bass line to set the mood, give that strummin hand a rest now and again. the bass just reproducing your riff.
but i'm thinking that you record like me. sometimes a bass player and drummer are nowhere to be seen when you need one. i love the chords, hereing the noise of a strum. i'm no critic but i know you're on the right line. robert onion popped into my head on listening.
thanks for putting your songs up for ridicule. but i bow to you. maybe one day you can here mine.
if you need anymore info on your song, will be giving it plenty of listens. i'll be your gil norton and think of ways to take it if all else fails.

and who is Nathan Gepper?

I am Nathan Gepper...haha...

Thanks..I don't have a bass (yet) or a drummer (yet). If I had those resources I'd probably implement them. Thanks much, though.

hey, i.m so sorry....now i know. from out the dark there shines a light.
does this song represent your style of writin? like the man, i admire the chord changes and structure. like the real mean motorscutor said it wasnt too easy to predict the next chord. nice riff. think you got yaselves a hook my friend.

most of the stuff i do generally gets dissected and ends up somewhere else. its just hard sometimes to know wwhat goes where. aslong as it dont sound like the stereophonics or busted and we laughin
