I love cribbage. My wife and I play it quite a bit. Of course I think I'm the better player, but she seems to just get the right cards all too often. Heh heh.
Anyone ever score the coveted 29 hand? Not me (except in a computer game about 5 years ago).
There was one hand where I had a flush, the dealer had a flush, and he had a flush in the crib (which included the 'starter' card, of course). Only time I've ever seen that. |

Nope, never seen the elusive hand, right cards, wrong jack is all.
My dad had all these sayings, does everyone do that? Like fifteen 2 and the rest won't do. Fifteen 2 pair is 4 and the rest don't score and so on... That drove me nuts even though I do it too ;) |

I have never seen a 29-hand, but i have seen a no wild-royal flush in a game of draw poker.
I was playing crib with a buddy and he tried to "wiggums" me, I bust out laughing, and then we had an argument as to whether or not his "muggins" should count, I ended up conceding the point, I'm such a good guy.

Carolynanna, I haven't heard those sayings, but whenever we have zero points in our hand we announce it as 19. It's impossible to have a hand of 19 points in cribbage. |

Finally...a cribbage topic! I figured I would be the only one that played.
I've never obtained the 29-hand, but a friend of mine's dad did. He took a picture of it. I saw the picture.
I used to be nice, like when I played with my wife or my father-in-law. Every other hand they would miss points, and I would tell them the points that they missed. So then I started figuring out they were just haphazardly counting the points, assuming I would jump in and tell them any points they missed. So, I quit telling them, but I didn't take the points either, they just missed a lot of points. Then one day I said we were going to start counting points the other had missed. Well, then they started taking forever counting up their points and the games would last twice as long. So, then I said, we'll go back to the way we used to play.
I taught them a lesson...I think.
They still miss tons of points.

Well alright then, whatever you can rhyme, goes like;
fifteen, 2 - 4 - 6 and the rest don't mix...
Its actually quite annoying, you're going to start saying it now arentcha! ;)
Yup, the 19 thing, we say that too.
One more annoying thing my dad did was when it was his crib and a jack came up he'd say (everytime) "Ah score one for the good guy".
Have you ever played reverse crib, trying to get as little points as possible? I tell ya that's when the big hands come out, Like 24 in the crib and such. |

haha you got it.
You know for me the lake wouldn't quite be the lake without crib and cards. Although I never know where the pegs are. Usually end up using matchstickes, small twigs, rolled up paper... |

Isn't that 2 for his heels?
And when you have the jack of same suit it's 1 for his nobs?

Yes jack of the same suit and its one for nobs. But I've never heard this heels thing, I thought it was one for cutting a jack. Quick go get the rulebook ;)

Non-dealer cuts the stack of undealt cards, lifting the upper part without showing its bottom card. The dealer takes out the top card of the lower part, turns it face up and, after non-dealer replaces the upper part, places it face up on top of the pack. This turned up card is called the start card. It is not used during the play of the cards but in the show it will count for combinations as part of both players' hands as well as of the dealer's box.
If the start card is a jack, the dealer immediately pegs 2 holes - this is called Two for his heels.

I was taught to say "two for his heels" when the starter is a jack.
That reverse cribbage is a great idea. I'll definitely try it.
Occasionally I've played with three and four players. With four players each gets five cards and contributes one to the crib. With only five cards to choose from, you feel lucky when you get a hand worth 8 or 10. It takes forever.

Also you should see the pegging (ahahahahahahahahahaha!) in reverse crib, kerrrazy!
I hate with 4 people when your partner just sets up everyone for pegging. Like someone lays a 4 and your partner lays a 6, argghhh! |

REVERSE CRIBBAGE!!
When I get home tonight, I'm going to be like: "Honey, we're playin' reverse cribbage...cancel all other plans."
1. I am a fsh with no i's. 2. You must be wearing Zubaz, 'cause you're daring to be different. 3. I am a man with 3 fingers...but that doesn't count my index finger nor my thumb. |

One For His Nob: If the hand contains the jack of the same suit as the start card, you peg One for his nob.
If the start card is a jack, the dealer immediately pegs 2 holes - this is called Two for his heels.
This site has several different variations of play.

I didn't know reverse crib was such a novelty, maybe this is too, not sure; We'd play with 3 people, but 2 were on a team and the third guy was on his own. That guy only had to get halfway around the board and the other 2 had to finish as usual. |

Teams is kind of fun.
Three players, all on their own is fun too. The average points per hand is probably less though, so the games take slightly longer. You end up getting junk in the crib, because you only contribute one card.

So if you're playing reverse crib, what's the significance of the other person winning before you even make the skunk line?

I suppose the person who had yet to make it to the schunk line would get two game notches.

Has anybody ever "double-schunked" somebody? I don't recall ever seeing it.

I have, I have! That's fun, but its a fluke, luck of the cards methinks. (actually not that fun as the other person is usually pissed right off)
Hey Crispy, nice to see ya. I'd say you skunked them then. |

I've double-skunked my opponents quite a few times, usually as a result of my superb pegging skills, also a bit of luck. I've only ever been double-skunked once (that I can remember).

What's the official cut-off on a double skunk? I always thought it should be 60, since that's twice as far from the end. However, when I pulled it on my brother he insisted that it's 45 because that's half of 90. Please help settle this incredible family feud.

It's definitely 60. 30 is quadruple schunk. I'd like to know someone that did that!
