At the moment, I work in a one-hour photo, developing pictures for the rich people. Not too many pics of bars and parties pass through my hands, mostly vacation, baby, wedding pics. I'm not a big fan of retail, having to interact with customers. It's especially bad when we're backed up and can't get photos done in an hour and I have to here about how it shouldn't be called one-hour and all that crap. I could use a change, but I don't know what that would be. I've gotta get back to school, so I can get a worthless degree and continue doing jobs like this but be able to say, "Hey, I've got a degree."

Dude, tartar, i am your worst nightmare. I go through about 2 disposable camaras, double-prints in a week, all 1 hour fotos (no bad Robin Williams movie references intended!)
But I am nice to the developers...

I've tried to become Robin Williams character in that film several times, but I just can't find a family worthy of stalking to that degree. If only this woman was a regular customer.

At the moment, I work at a faceless corporate helpdesk, taking calls from the people who don't know enough about their computers not to. I'm not a big fan of helpdesk, having to interact with customers. It's especially bad when we're backed up and can't get calls done in 45 seconds and I have to hear about how it shouldn't be and we're the 'helplessdesk' and all that crap. I could use a change, but I don't know what that would be. [maybe i'll just become a complete drunk] I've gotta get back to school, so I can get a worthless degree and continue doing jobs like this but be able to say, "Hey, I've got a degree...and I'm drunk."

Is 40 hours a week too much?
1. I am a fsh with no i's. 2. You must be wearing Zubaz, 'cause you're daring to be different. 3. I am a man with 3 fingers...but that doesn't count my index finger nor my thumb. |

40 hours doesn't sound too bad. I'm on 50 - 60 hours a week, it's way too much. I'm just back from a 14 hour day.
Monsieur, good luck with your new job. Sounds like it is going to be hard, hope you'll be allright.

Actually, my 40 hours isn't too bad at all, since I'm "working" right now.

I only work part-time, and I wish I worked more, because I need the money. I don't mind my work, either, but I'd probably have to do more of it if I had a full-time job.

I work in mergers and acquisitions, these days about 17 hours a day, on average. The job is very interesting, but the hours can become really unbearable. |

Monsieur, working like that cannot be healthy. Is everyone in your company working this hard? I hope for your sake you get some good holidays or week-end breaks then.

I was wondering from your description if you were in I banking or M&A. It is tough your first few years. But I am sure you have a true passion for your work that keeps you going. Right now, I am glad I am cutting back... I won't work 14hr days all or even most of the time. I am one of those people who can't eat right and work out when working that long. I wish I could do it like some people can, but it was really starting to take a toll on my health. To me the money is not worth sacerficing my health...but it took me a long time to realize this. |

First three years, everyone is working very tough hours. Later, it gets better. I also work on week-ends very often.
From what I remember, Wilhelm, you are an anaesthesist...like my mom. That's a very tough job too. |
