Today, at my way home from the Amsterdam gig, I've seen the guy who joined me on my way home from the Pinkpop concert.
The trip where I met Errol Thompson.

This guy I'm talking about was lucky enough to talk about half an hour more to Errol than I did.
He told me some quite exciting things.
But, what's quite ennoying for you guys is the fact that he promised to Errol not to tell anyone about it...
But I'm glad he told me about it.
So, what to tell...?
The title of this thread is kind of misleading.
I can't tell you anything.
But I can tell you that I know some more facts about the new Pixies album, and about the future of mr. Charles Thompson as well.
And I must say that I am enormously excited about the things I've heard.
I know some of you will be too in the future, and some of you definately will not.
I'm sorry I can't tell you anything, but this is about my integrity towards Errol, Chuck and the Pixies as well.
All I can say is: read my other BREAKING NEWS!!! thread again, and again, and maybe you'll draw the right conclusion.
But then again, there are things that will be disclosed only if the Pixies decide the time is right.
Be patient, the future will be very... interesting for us, the (über-)fans.
My god, Charles Thompson is an incredibly intelligent man!
One last hint: what was the title of the last Pixies album?

It's probably going to be called "Fool the World" since that is what the upcoming book about Charles is called. It would be a slick marketing move. That's just my guess. But yeah, you can't just go:
"OH MY GOD BREAKING NEWS!....but I can't tell you..."

No doubt. Do you think that Errol is going to waste his time trying to remember who the hell he talked to in the Netherlands (and if he did, what is he going to do?)? Secondly, you seem to think that you were the only person on the planet who were told the information?

All I can say is that the new Pixies album is already finished and waiting for it's release.
And you all know what bands do when a new album is released.
So all of you Catholics, Breeders and Martinis fans, be very, very patient...

well I was in this position once
I spoke to Bernard Georges from Throwing Muses
and he told me that he was going to start a band with Kristin and somebody else and I just didn't know if it was a good thing to tell the TM board. Eventually when Fifty Foot Wave started it was a goofy thing to say: yeah I knew this way back, before you all. Like that matters! You are only cool when you reveal yourself with news when it's actually news! So I always regretted that, in a way...
so I understand Chris for not telling, but I guess it's not so big deal if you would tell it and it would be a lot cooler! And I'm also saying this because I would like to know!

I think that if you talk to errol and he trusts you, you don't easily break that promise. I think you are damn glad somebody wants to talk to you in the first place, you are excited and don't want to do anything stupid. I can see why Chris won't break his promise
anyhow, Chris already said that there is going to be a new album in his first post. Well you can draw a lot of conclusions from that.
Frank Black said on this board that his record companies would take advantage of the old band coming back together. So I guess this won't be a record that will be released as a by-product of the reunion. The reunion will make a shift towards the album and everything will be in service for the promotion of it. I can see Pixies on MTV....

if a new album existed, then I doubt it would be digital only. Bearing in mind only four countries in the world can actually buy 'Bam Thwok' cause of how the iTunes store is set up, it seems a bit... unsuccessful? |

I have a great strategy for a new album
based on what rivum and jo just said
I'm no economic or lawyer
I don't no if it's a good possibility
but to me it sound perfect
here it goes:
They will release a new song on iTunes every 2 weeks
They will sell it for 99 cent, the uber-fans buy it
Because the Pixies do this without a record company they will get a high percentage of the sales (iTunes will get some too)
When they have released 8-10 songs they will get a album out
The album will have extra songs on it (like another 4-6) they will put it out on Spinart and Cooking Vinyl (I still believe this the 'taking advantage' frank spoke about). Besides the extra songs the record has good artwork and all the lyrics so people who bought all the iTunes will definately buy it again. Frank Black and possibly Kim Deal will own the rights to it, like Franks releases since COR, so they will get a good percentage out of the sales too.
So basicly, with this tactic lot's of people will buy most of the songs twice.
Hardcore fans will pay $9.99 for the iTunes songs
and after that another $15,- for the cd.
I have no idea if it would work
but it makes sense to me

Chicken... thanks for the info..it's an exciting, juicy tidbit  ... you haven't steered us wrong.
So let me check if I am catching onto your your clue about "Trompe le Monde."  Would you say it would be fair to say that the Pixies never meant to "breakup" but take a break...back in the day to record solo material and possibly find a loop hole in their record label contracts? Are you saying that all along they meant to fool the world by breaking up with plans all along of reuniting down the road??? Or am I completely barking up the wrong tree? Do tell!  |

i like billgoodman's idea of releasing new songs on itunes then releasing a full album. frank's a creative and innovative guy and that applies to his music as well as the marketing/business side.

What I am getting from this is that The Pixies planned the break up back in 1992. They named "Trompe Le Monde" aka "Fool The World" because they planned to fool us all by comming back in the future.
That's what I got from this all, but that even sounds insane to me.
