I now have a more reliable means of transportation, so I've been thinking that I can reach places much better than before. I want to hit the road and drive...around...where? Don't know. I think maybe I need this. I want to just disappear for a week or two and drive to places. I figure if I'd do it, I'd make it a point to meet everyone on the forum that I can, as well as other random people I know from the net. Can I crash on your couch? Perhaps let me have a glass of water? A bowl of cereal in the morning, maybe a sandwich to go? A shower even? I have nothing else to do. The big problem is money, and a job...I guess I can go a week or two, it's just the fact that gas is so fucking much. I probably wouldn't spend too much on food...I can go with eating only twice a day or so. I can even bring my own food. I want to do this. I want to disappear.

Sounds like a modern Jack Kerouac. (hit the road jack)
Speaking of which, what do you people think of On the road?
I was soooo disappointed by this book. I read it because Burroughs is my favorite US writer, but I think On the road is very overrated. There is not a single thing about this book that makes it interesting. |

Good luck, El Barto. Let me know if you make a stop in Columbus. I can offer high speed internet access and some really good sandwiches, even if you're not Dean Moriarty.

The best vacation you can think of. Had one of those two years ago, packed a bag full of cds and just drove from one small town to the other. You have to have some great music with you if you go El Barto, Dog In The Sand was the soundtrack to my trip. Now I just want to pack my bags and get into the car...........
Hmm, Monsieur I got into Burroughs because of Kerouac. Of course Burroughs is a far better writer that Kerouac in my opinion but I read On The Road when I was 18/19 and it was just the best thing I had ever read till then. I still love it. You probably got to Kerouac after too many very good books.
Desolation Angels is really beautiful, strange to see it being mentioned here because I was thinking about it just this morning,

I loved on the road I have to say, gave me itchy feet, it's not about the story or the way it's written it's about th way it makes you feel and the place it takes you while your reaing, I loved it

Liked it too tre. I looked up at the world around me after reading it and felt "where the hell am I? What have we done to this place?" and then i thought..."I need to go get drunk and have some mind-bending conversations..."

El, this is my first post in a while (not that anyone's noticed) just to tell you that you might want to consider the great wilderness of the Green Mountain State (Vermont,) where I would be honored to show you some cool swimming spots and such. No matter where you go, hitting the road for a while is always a kick-ass thing to do. Email me if you're out this way.

Sounds cool Jim, I'd love to do something like that. I hear you with lack of money etc. like Benji said, you think you have it bad there with fuel...
That said, it'd be cool if you did come to Europe. I guess driving here is out the question...
Kind regards, Simon Admissions |
