Larssons header has to be the single best diving header I have ever seen.

The guy is a genius, to be fair. Its so unfortunate that the rest of the world didn't get to experience him properly, stuck away in the SPL. Sheer class.

I don't rate him purely because he played in the Scottish league. Fuckin Chris Sutton is a brilliant striker in that country. Their league is a complete joke.

Wednesday 6pm GMT + 1h against Spain. The Spanish will want vendetta for our victory in S.Bernabeu that left them second in the qualification group. And what a goal did Giannakopoulos in that match! Though technically inferior Greece has nothing to loose and all to gain. The team has the highest moral ever observed in a Greek football team. We all hope for a good 1-1.

I'am for Latvia. I like it when outsiders win. I don't care much about the other game, specially because Germany sucks and Holland should have an easy victory.

Back of the net!

Also, Ally Mcoist just described the run as "took him in the hole there".

It just gets better and better.

Euro 2004: Day 4

Czech Republic 2 - Latvia 1

Germany 1 - Holland 1

Final round of first matches, this time group D. Latvia came close to causing a huge upset by leading 2000 semi-finalists Czech Rep until 18 mins from time, before two goals put paid to their hopes. Everybody's least favourite team drew with Holland, prolonging their slow, miserable death.

Group D

1) Czech Republic (P1 W1 D0 L0 F2 A1 3pts)
2) Germany (P1 W0 D1 L0 F1 A1 1pt)
3) Holland (P1 W0 D1 L0 F1 A1 1pt)
4) Latvia (P1 W0 D0 L1 F1 A2 0pt)

I hate to say it but Germany looked decent. Far better than we are led to believe they are by the press. Unfortunately I think we will be seeing them in the next round (not us as in England) they will beat Latvia and draw with Czech. Whilst Holland will loose to Czech and beat Latvia. Probably.

Thanks Denis. I'm a beginner about that forums stuff.

The drawn game between Germany and Netherlands seems fair, even if the oranges produced the best football.
Have you seen the way Wörns prevented Van Nistlerooy from playing, using his hands as a belt over him ? A miracle he's been able to score ! How come that the referee never whistled anything ?? Football is not judo !

Czech Republic did the job but I think they've been close to lose their chances for the euro. They waste several goal opportunities (Baros !) but in the end they can wait for the difficult matches against Germany and Holland with serenity.

Van Nistelrooy

man, how can be someone that good (in the premiership)
suck so bad in the national team

Ok so he scored, it was a good goal,
but he was invisible the rest of the game
Holland played bad too
I think Czech Republic is the best of this group
because I hate Germany (as a soccer team)

I bet you saw England-France ... do you think Henry did a good game ?
He had often 2 or 3 defenders around him, didn't offer any solution, because there was no space. In the premiership, there is much more opportunities to run into space and to play than in lots of high level international games (club or nation). It's rather specific to your country. I'm not sure Titi would be so efficient in Italy or Spain (even if spanish teams are more "players" than italian ones).

Concerning Van Nistlerooy, it has never been easy for him to prove what he can do because of the competition of Kluivert (or Makaay).
And a top striker is the one who you don't see during most of a game, and is there to score THE goal.
Moreover, Van Nistlerooy will never profit in his national team of the fact that most of premier league teams have a complex of inferiority refering to ManUd (what makes some matches so easy to them ... in my point of view ).
Nevertheless, he's really a top class player.

At least, Czech Republic has 3 points. They have to win one of their 2 games against Germany and Holland to be qualified. They can make it for sure. I'd prefer Holland to go in 1/4 final cos they play and don't only defend.

You refer to football as soccer so your opinion doesn't count.

Van is the man! No other Dutch striker could have scored that goal, and no other dutch striker would have gotten better service from their inept midfield. Hoojdonk only got the ball 'cos he is 11ft tall and they just lumped it up to him.

Sneijder should play all the time, he is class. And Robben.

Just finished watching the Spain V Greece game. How lucky are the Greeks? It will run out in the quarters for sure.

That Scolari (Portugal's coach) has no guts! Firtly Figo questions Deco's involvement in Portugal's squad and so Deco is dropped. Then the Portuguese press/fans say that Couto and Rui Costa shouldn't be in the side and so he drops them. Can he not make decisions based on his own opinions?

I know he is right to drop Couto and Rui Costa but they should never have been playing for so long anyway so it seems like he has just done it now to appease his critics. Weak man.

Yah boo sucks to you Mike, Rui Costa scores!
Update time.

Euro 2004, Day 5

Spain 1 - Greece 1

Portugal 2 - Russia 0

Group favourites Spain lead for the best part of the match until the Greek underdogs equalise - both Spain and Greece now just need a draw to qualify from Group A. Hosts Portugal collect their first points with a reasonably convincing victory over a feeble Russia. However, they're gonna need to step it up a bit before Sunday's match against Spain.

Group A

1) Greece (P2 W1 D1 L0 F3 A2 4pts)
2) Spain (P2 W1 D1 L0 F2 A1 4pts)
3) Portugal (P2 W1 D0 L1 F3 A2 3pts)
4) Russia (P2 W0 D0 L2 F0 A2 0pts)

Man it would be interesting if Spain draw with Portugal, and Greece beat Russia. Imagine the home nation getting knocked out in the group stages, that would be nearly as brilliant as seeing France go out of WC2002 without scoring a goal.

Tonights England match is probably the only one I'll be able to watch as it is the earlier match, so thats something to look forward to. I think we should win it, but you never know with England.

Good to see our fans are doing us proud.... man they should have a Euro 2004 for hooligans, we'd win it hands down!

If I were French I wouldn't want to remember it either.... I think Brazil did it one year as well, won the world cup, then 4 years later went out in the group stages.

yeah it's true.... Portugal could be on their way too..... they are gonna have to beat Spain, which isn't going to be easy. Plus I think Greece will beat Russia.

Who do you think will win out of Italy and Sweden tomorrow???
