mun: thanks/euxaristo for posting that! reading it, i wondered what sort of upbringing the thompson boys had. from errol's comments and everything we know about charles, something had to have made them the original thinkers that they are.

Even if there were was a new album potentially in the works, it would make sense for David Lovering to deny it. Because if he says yes to some yahoo at a show, then there's a good chance of that yahoo running to the internet and posting BREAKING NEWS!!! OFFICIAL WORD!! NEW PIXIES ALBUM!!
And on the other hand, I choose to take anything said by anyone not in the band with a grain of salt as well. Just because, even if they're as close to it all as Frank's brother is, they still don't have an up-to-the-minute feed on what's going inside Frank's head.
The band has a lot of reason to be cautious and to not have made a final decision about this. So I'm holding out for an offical announcment before I buy any of this. |

So I'm a yahoo now? Dammit! You know, I work so hard to establish myself, then some yahoo refers to me as some yahoo.
But if it was really important to them to not have info about new material get out and get posted all over, I would tell all my family members to zip it, like Errol, for example.
What good is it to have the band saying "no new material" when you've got an Errol walking around at a bunch of gigs telling yahoos "yes new material", who then go post it on the internet and say "BREAKING NEWS!!! OFFICIAL WORD!! NEW PIXIES ALBUM!!"?

Ah, thanks for passing that along. It's good to know. I read someplace where he said he's been taking lessons and learning to sing more melodically. While that's fine and good, and certainly reflected on more recent releases, the world needs Frank Black's proud, powerful screetching.

He told me he'd follow the Pixies to London and Paris, so you could be right. When I saw him at the Pinkpop festival he stood at the left of the stage, 'behind' Joey.

Well, David Lovering lied to me. He said there was no new stuff.
The next time I see him I'm gonna call him on it and then he will be all, "Oh! I'm soooo sorry! Here, let me give you free Pixies tickets and memorabilia for life!" and I'll be all, "Nah, it's cool, we're best friends. What's a little white lie between buddies?" Then we'll high five and 'thumbs up' each other as we cooly walk our separate ways into the night.
Yes my friends, that is what is going to happen. Don't worry, I'll post a thread on the whole thing as it unfolds.

I put this on the BAM THWOK topic, too, but just in case: Pixies Pen First New Song In 13 Years
The Pixies reunion has now yielded more than just sold-out concerts. The iconic rock act has penned its first new song in 13 years, "Bam Thwok," which will be available tomorrow (June 15) at midnight for digital download exclusively via Apple's iTunes Music Store. The cut features bassist Kim Deal on lead vocals plus a 15-second organ solo recorded years ago by guitarist Joey Santiago's father-in-law while he was doing missionary work in the Philippines.
Deal says her lyrics were inspired by an art book she found on the street. "This kid had written a short story, a paragraph really, about a party that took place in another universe, about people and monsters that were partying together," she says. "It's a song about loving everyone [about] showing good will to everyone."
Adds vocalist/guitarist Frank Black, "The recording process was very relaxed and it didn't feel like 12 years had passed." The cut is the first new Pixies original song to emerge since the Oct. 1991 release of the group's last studio album, "Trompe Le Monde."
The Pixies are in the midst of a European tour that hits Paris tonight (June 14) and wraps July 11 at the T in the Park Festival in Scotland. A U.S. tour, including a pair of Lollapalooza appearances, begins July 22 in Ventura, Calif.

fb.net mentioned in this article (uk.news.yahoo.com):
New Pixies single?
A previously unreleased Pixies track is available to buy online.
Apple's iTunes music store, apple.com/iTunes, is offering the one-track "Bam Thwok" for a download price of 99c.
Described on the official Frank Black site, frankblack.net, as "a fun, upbeat tune with Kim [Deal] singing, and FB singing along in the background", it has been well-received by fans.
"Damn good," wrote one on the Pixies fansite baileyswalk.com; "I had tears in my eyes." "I can't get the chorus out of my head," added another.
It is currently iTunes' top Pixies download, ahead of "Where Is My Mind?", "Here Comes Your Man" and "Wave of Mutilation (UK Surf)".
The track is presumed to be a new composition, as it has never been released on any other Pixies album or single, and features contemporary pictures of the band on the e-sleeve.
iTunes is currently unavailable in the UK but will reportedly be launched tomorrow [Tuesday], along with a service for France and Germany.

I was with a contact of the management a night or two ago, and he explained that 8 songs had been recorded, with a release imminent.
The reply was prompted by my enquiry why no new material had emerged yet on the tour.
There may also be a song available for download only, with proceeds to a charity.
Bottom line is that new material is soon to be available, but being kept off tour to avoid bootleg screwing the release.
Download was accurate. Just need the 8 tracks to show up too.

Nicely done, JCarr.
Interesting how much questioning, once the idea of new music from the Pixies arose, occurred regarding Kim singing Lead... then BAM! THWOK! There it is!
I, like many here have stated, prefer Frank's vocals in the lead, but I will say that I like this better than Gigantic or Into the White... probably put together. I also would like to say that I am happy about the Pixies doing something, but if it's at the expense of future FB or FB&tC efforts, then I am eventually not happy with the trade.
iTunes rocks, within minutes of hearing about the song here, I was listening to it.... and it appears UK, France and Germany can get in on the act now too (or soon) which I know had irritated many here before its availability there.
Great experience, by the way, Chickenwithtwoheads, thanks very much for sharing it.... funny, I saw FB&tC in Leiden and had to take a train from Amsterdam, and not only was there -not- a car wreck that made us change trains, but the guy sitting next to us was definitely NOT Errol. Some people have all the luck. And some get in car wrecks. You had the better role in that scenario. |

I don't know what besides rampant pessimism would make people think that the Pixies stuff would derail FB from doing his own thing forever after. When they asked him where he'll be at 40 or 50 (I forget) he said "hopefully relasing my new album". So I cannot believe that the Catholics are done, that solo efforts will suffer from his "getting back with the old band." I just don't see it! Has this man ever let us down? I mean REALLY? EVER?
