Think about it. 'Death To The Pixies' is set up to give the perfect introduction to the band.
The first track "Cecilia Ann" is only insrimental. Showing the bands skills at that.
Track two "Planet of Sound" introduces Frank's vocals on top of the music.
Track three "Tame", throws Kim into the mix.
Track four "Here Comes Your Man" shows the bands poppier side.
Track five "Debaser" shows their mainstream appeal.
Track six "Wave of Mutilation" introduses surf-rock riffs Frank became known for later on.
The rest is pretty much random tracks, but the first six tracks give a slow intro to the band.

I have never seen that much of a problem with DttP, but I think that's because it was my introduction to the band. I listened it to it loads and loved every sngle song.
The first album I got post DttP was Bossanova. I really didn't like any of them apart from the DttP tracks (cecilia ann, velouria, dig for fire). Then I got Doolittle, having heard it was a better album. Again, I really couldn't get in to any of the non-DttP tracks. I just couldn't see them as "real" songs, just fillers.
However, over time, I guess I must of gradually started liking them, and now I'm a full blown Pixies fan, liking many non-DttP tracks over DttP tracks. So maybe for a fan it's not great, but speaking as a person who this compilation was intended for in the first place (non-fans), I can say it was pretty good, the Pixies became the first band I was really passionate about after only having heard the best of. |

I actually only had the first six tracks mapped out. They flow so great to introduce the Pixies. I'm sure you can go through the whole thing and say what it add, but I figured the first six was enough to point it out.
