Did anyone see him on Friday night with Jonathon Ross last night? Now there's a guy who really buys his own hype. What do people think of the new single anyway? I haven't heard the album yet but it's meant to be pretty good. Disscuss...

For ten thousand years he slept, his mind feeding on the nightmares of the weak. Now he has awakened. As the night turned crimson, the fire-blade shattered and his power died. Then, the slaughter began...

I liked the Smiths very much but from what I've heard about him, he is a very weird person. And I didn't like his solo career that much, though there are some highlights, such as Everyday is like Sunday.

I've said this before here already I think, but I don't like his music.
He did look VERY nervous, especially in the 'green room' (but then, he was rather close to Dale Winton).
I like him, but he seems a bit insecure, and overly bitter about something. Apparently he slagged off Bowie in that interview, but I guess they cut it out.

Oh, and, I don't like the new single.

It's getting colder....

Never heard anything from Morrissey that I was all that taken with. Um... okay, that's all I have to say.

Oh, in that case it was probably his first UK tv interview in 17 years. Imagine if Morrissey had have became a doctor, he would have had the biggest god complex of all time.

Do you think he's better or worse than Billy Corgan, it's a close call. I'm not talking about music, I'm talking about their personalities.

The worse thing that happened to Billy Corgan is himself.

"Life's a bummer when you're a hummer"
"do you feel love is real?"
"faith lies in the ways of sin"

Billy Corgan really did have some amateurish lyrics. He really could have used to try something other than cashing in on ambiguous angst and loss of innocence. But when I was 16, it was the most beautiful music and lyrics I'd ever heard. Go figure, it was aimed at people my age.

I really like The Smiths but the solo Morrisey stuff isn't that good and i don't like his new song. His lyrics only work with Johnny Marr's guitar riffs.

I was actually considering seeing one of his solo shows but i've heard that the chance of him doing any Smiths stuff is 0.

As far as his personality, no one could really be that misrable, i mean come on, i don't know that much about his life but it couldn't have been all that bad, stop moaning and cut your hair!

I haven't heard many of Billy Corgan's interviews so i can't comment on his personality but i really like the Smashing Pumpkins and i condider BC to be more talanted than Morrisey.

I think Morrissey does do Smiths songs live. At least one or two, I think.

I like the new single. I've actually never been into Morrissey. And I don't think I ever quite "got" The Smiths. Never been a fan of any of it. But I'm probably gonna buy the new album Tuesday.

A lot of the musicians I like enjoy Morrissey. Ron & Russell Mael (of Sparks) are Morrissey fans. Frank has said good things about Morrissey in the past. So that piques my interest.

I'm trying to buy at least one new release a week. I've gotten way behind on music in my old age. I still buy lotsa records, but it's 99% old stuff. Last week, I started off my habit with a new Joe Jackson live album. This week, it's a' lookin' like I'm gonna grab the new Morrissey.

Jason, according to the Twin Peaks thread (in which you posted), you were 13 years old in 1990 (when Twin Peaks first started), which would make you about 27 years old in 2004. "Old Age"?

And I hope you enjoy the new Morrisey.

Exaggeration with mildy humorous intentions. Though living in a college town, it's easy to start feeling old(er than most of those around you) after about 25.

I hope I enjoy the new Morrissey, too. I'm gonna try to find a copy with the DVD included.

When was the last Full-length Morrissey studio album?

And also, I actually did find it somewhat funny, Jason.

Let me just state that I wasn't saying that I don't like the pumkins...I do, It is some of the most beautiful music I've ever heard...I was just saying that it's unfortunate that his ego can be pretty large sometimes...I mean Zwan...come on. Now the lyrics in those song...get me a barf bag. It so luvy duvy and crap...I hate it when recording artists find it necessary to share their repulsive "in love" message with the world. I find in some instances when someone gets married...that's all their music revolves around. I love you, you love me, let's prance in a field naked...blah blah blah.

And no I'm not bitter...

you could be a star, you could go far

I think it was 'Maladjusted'

About 1997-1998?

-

I think that 'Bona Drag' would probably be the best Morrissey album to pick up.

Fairly upbeat for him.

-

"You Are The Quarry" (new album) is all over p2p.

I remember a comment from Billy Corgan a long time ago, about writing the lyrics for Siamese Dream, about how he'd sit at a typewriter and whenever he wrote a line that made him cringe with embarassment, that was a line he knew he'd use.

Smashing Pumpkins mean about as much to me as Garth Brooks does, but I found that anecdote memorable.

He looks like a big stupid old fashioned crooner. Who lives out in Spain and puts on shows in hotels. His comments are pointless. He thinks he is something special and to some he is. He forgets that from what I can make out. Hes failed to make anything remotely of interest for a good long while.

did he not move to LA? in a review i read they said he's still representing the north, or singing about themes as though there is still a connection... i think he'd be surprised how much manchester has changed since he was last here...

I'd much rather listen to Bowie's recent work than Morrisey's, its far more interesting. Bowie seems to still be interested in making challenging, creative music, whereas Morrisey's stuck in the same miserable rut that he's been in for the last twenty years. The Smiths were great, but surely its time for him to get over himself?
