Is it just me, or does Mr. Black look really "Black Francis-like" in this picture? Maybe it's an illusion created by him being with the other Pixies, but he just has this look on him like he is younger or something. Am I crazy?

Haha, it's true. He's a punk. Maybe the Pixies tunes are rubbing off on him. |

I think all the Pixies are looking/acting/feeling younger by doing this. It's really like taking a step back in time but moving forward at the same time. I really, really, really need to hear this show, but it's SOLD OUT!!!! I've got my Minneapolis and Winnipeg CD's, which are more than enough, but CoF's review is making me drool for this one.

Heh, before the show, FB came on the mic and in a low and imposing announcer-type voice said something to the effect of, "Good evening, welcome to Saskatoon's first Pixies show <applause/cheers>. Tonight's show is being recorded live on CDs which you can purchase by the doors. Only 1000 are made, and less than 100 are left, so if you want to take the show home tonight, you might want to grab your copy now."
I don't remember the exact wording and may have embellished or forgotten something, but that was the gist of it. I guess those other 100 went pretty quick. :)

i think part of the "black francis-ness" is the stage lights - most catholics shows are quite dark and the fact that he's wearing a black t-shirt - i can't remember the last time i saw FB not in some sort of suit/western shirt for at least most of a show

It wasn't Frank Black. It was a guy speaking into a mic at the sound board. Really, he was right behind me. |

Huh, crazy, sounded a lot like Frank doing a low voice, me and the people around me agreed, but I'll definitely take your word for it. Didn't seem like something FB would do anyway, though I thought it would be a little funny if he was doing it just 'cause of that voice.

Yeah, thanks for the review, COF. I'm so excited to see them again! In 7 months :(( That was very well written. And I wish so badly that they would've played River Euphrates and I Bleed in Minneapolis. Sounds like it was a great show! |

I thought the saskatoon show was simply amazing. The energy from the crowd, and the killer setlist, not to mention the free pop and the very friendly fans from all over the place, just made it a very memorable night to say the least.

that show was absolutely amazing. i was mesmerized... that night I got to meet David Lovering, I was too damned drunk for a decent conversation*well i didn't think i'd actually meet him!* but I asked him why they were playing such small venues thusfar, and he said that they really didn't expect such interest right off the bat like that, so yeah, even just the 4000 or whatever in saskatoon surprised them. Hell, talking about playlists, he gave his personal playlist that was prepared to us! all the songs were planned in order except for the second encore, its just a question mark for that. If anyone cares i'll scan it sometime. Wish i could see them again, i'd follow if i had the cash lata |

Well, I was at Lydia's after the show, and can say that it was great! Pretty packed full of people, and RantMusic played pretty much till the place closed. Good stuff. |

Okay COF, now I am officially pissed that my wife and I didn't just come to Saskatoon like you said. Your review was awesome, and I am getting more pumped to see the Pixies at a larger venue. They are only going to get better and tighter as the shows move forward. YOU LUCKY BASTARD!

Since Mrs. Porkbone isn't here, I steadfastly blame your lack of attendance on her. :)
We ended up having breakfast at Perkins, btw, not Mexican food, we should've just gone with you guys (especially since I locked my keys in the trunk right after we left you). :)
Too bad you couldn't've been there, it would've been great to have 'ya there with us.

COF --
Well if you were having Perkins that might have been a different story! I heard about the keys in the trunk incident, nice going! Oh well, after we left you we ended up just dropping like $30 on canadian chocolate bars we have never heard of and then bailed. Got home in Wisconsin at 10:30PM. I have posted it elsewhere, but I expect to see you and Mike in Minneapolis on November 10th and 11th. I would offer our place to stay but we're boring people. Of course you know that!

Well, $30 of new chocolate bars vs $35 on Pixies tickets. I figure you'd already seen the Pixies once, but never had these chocolate bars, so you made a wise decision. :)
I'm doing my best to convince Micheal of the Minneapolis Merits, but because of work we'd have to fly down and it gets pricey. If the gigs were 12/13, it'd be a completely different story. But we haven't given up on the idea. Y'know I can't really bear to miss a Pixies show. :)

Oh, the wierd and wonderful world of Canadian candy! Yes, what did you get? Orange-flavored KitKat? Mr. Big? Big Turk? Eat-more?
There are some humorous reviews of Canadian candy by an American here: http://www.bookofratings.com/canadiansnacks.html. He's really obssessed with how many of them float in water. Kinda overly severe in his grading though. |

Am I the only one who still gets a big, goofy grin when I think about this show?! It's been a week and it still makes me smile like nobody's business. Seriously, this show had a better afterglow than my first sexual encounter. Though it might just be from the Mint Aero bar. :)
I can't believe you guys don't have some of these candies (etc), they're classics! Aero? Crunchie? Coffee Crisp ("You like your coffee crisp?! I like my Coffee Crisp!"), ketchup chips? Wunderbar (my latest fave chocolate bar)?! I don't remember noticing much candy/junk that you had that we don't... you'd think it'd be the other way around.

I love the commercial with the Viking running around with his fists in the air shouting "Voonder-Bar!" Yes, wonderful. |

We have most of those bars here in the UK, although rather than coffee crisp, ours is called toffee crisp. We used to have Jolly Ranchers too, just for a couple of years and then they took them off the market, bastards.

I thought Dave was only meant to play on white drum kits, didn't I read that somewhere? Love the winged P skin though

high everyone. i'm from red deer alberta and me an a gaggle of friends drove to saskatoon for the show. it was indeed the apex of all things music related that has ever happened to me. contrary to some opinions here, i felt the sound was astronomical and everyone i seen there was smiling with such intensity that it is perminantly tatooed in my good memory basket .forever.
i couldn't have possibly been the only 29 year old man in tears that night right? humerously, i recall acting like a screaming teenaged beatles fan at an airport hoping to catch a glimpse of paul.(youve seen the footage)
i was a little dissapointed with the encore, but definately worth 15 hours in a car with a pregnant woman.
props to the phillie boys for making it.
