I would've loved to see Rock Music, Alec Eiffel, Letter to Memphis, Ana, Motorway to Roswell, and every other song on those 2 albums. |

moi je suis content, Doolitle et Surfer Rosa sont mes deux cd favorites! Ils jouent les chansons qui vont aparaitre sur le nouveau cd ' wave of mutilation'. I'm glad they chose Surfer rosa and Doolittle, those are my favorite albums. I expected this since they are just playing almost every song that will be on the new best of cd

Well, talk about self-delusion . . . last night's show fucking blew in a major way. Nothing but a token slaughtering of one song off of each TROMP and BOSS?!? You'd think that the Pixies had warped backed to 1989 or something. [We know that's not true, though, 'cuz I weighed the band before the show, and they must have six members now.] I knew that this "reunion" idea was too good to be true. And, if you guys really think that this show was "fucking awesome," then just listen to the live disc, and you will hear how horrible it was. For those of you that missed it, consider yourselves lucky. |

Perhaps they decided to stick with the songs that featured more vocal from Kim. Her voice was fading on Bossanova and she was barely a whisper on Trompe. She did spend the past 12 years as the main singer/songwriter for the Breeders/Amps and probably wanted a little more participation than she apparently got in their final tours before they disbanded. I'm sure the conversation went something like this...."Hey, Kim, wanna play some Pixies songs again and make a ton of money?" "Yeah, sure, only if I can sing most of them". |

Blown Away, Planet of Sound, Is She Weird, Head On, and Subbacultcha were all on the setlist for an encore, but they weren't played. I'm sure that they would've been if the apathetic Minneapolis fans would've made an effort to call the band back out for a second time instead of ignoring the fans trying to do this and talking (or complaining in Diablo's case) with their friends. That would've balanced out the songs played per album a little bit better. And the Pixies were amazing. |

for fucks sake. some of you just got to see the pixies. reunion tour or not. whats with all the nay sayin. leave the expectations at home. just enjoy one of the best bands to have ever existed. cant wait for them to hit brixton, maybe like back in the late 80s the crowd here will just appreciate them for what they are.....just to see those guys together on stage for a jam is good enough for me. this reunion tour has brought both scepticism and equally excitement among the fans.
bring on baileys walk, bring on the manta ray. i dont care. give me frank black, give me kims basslines. joeys octave bendin wails and daves poundin. hey i got an idea, next time some of you should go see guns n roses. then i will quite happily sit in on the complaining.
until then....the pixies even 12 years later are the most refreshing thing to have happened to me and to music. the originals.
to frank, kim, joey and dave...the uk waits with open arms.

atta boy tolerant + mrgrieves! im getting sick of seeing someone's lame post about the setlist on every thread around here. what are people crying about? you're lucky to be able to go at all? and to have them play at these amazing venues? sure, i'd like to hear every thing they've ever put out but gimme a fuckin break with the bitchin whinin and moanin about exactly what they're playing! 1 year ago these crybabies woulda died to hear just one of these songs live. besides, it sounds like they may do many more shows in the U.S. following the euro tours. sorry about the negative vibe in my post but cmon people! |

I heard a recording of the show and I have to strongly---and I do mean strongly---disagree with El Diablo here. They not only sounded tight; they sounded ferocious. Great stuff. |

I don't think he forgot the songs, but he sure has been neglecting them. FBF only has one reworked tune originally from Bossanova, and that's "Velouria". "velouria" is also the only song FB played with the Catholics, I think.

David Lovering says they will not play "The Happening" or "Motorway to Roswell" at all.
They only played 2 each of Trompe le Monde and Bossanova at Winnipeg, but you can also look at it as a 100% increase from the Minneapolis tally.

I personally was amazed when I heard the show, liked Kim Deal's version of "In Heaven" and hearing "LaLa Love You" live. Never cared too much for the Trompe era. |

Is there any reason? Did he say they would never play these songs ever again or just not during the warm up tour? I'd really be sad if they never played either of these songs again. Two of my all time favorite. But anyways, to keep my post in tact with the thread. They could have played anything, botched the show, and hit on my sister and I still would've loved it as much as I did..

I've read in several interviews that Frank wasn't all that fond of his writing around the time of Bossanova and Trompe. That might explain it. |

Per Otto's point, it's interesting how neither of the two Trompe Le Monde songs played last night were written by Frank in the Bossanova/Trompe era. He wrote Subbacultcha much earlier and of course, he didn't write Head On at all. Then there's Neil Young's Winterlong, which isn't Bossanova but is Bossanova era. So it sounds like a good explanation. |

I thought I read that Bossanova was Frank's fave pixies album?
Thats sad news about Motorway, I was really hoping to hear that at one of the shows.

B'oh...I'll have to strongly disagree with him there if he truly thinks that. I listen to Trompe more than any other Pixies album. And honestly, Doolittle does almost nothing for me anymore (okay, okay, it does...still); Surfer Rosa definitely takes the cake for the best pre-Bossanova album.
Maybe Frank just doesn't want to touch the alien songs anymore, and end up the butt of another stupid cartoon. But that'd be a darn shame.

Actually, I think it was in that Gouge documentary where I heard him talk about it. Yep...he says that lyrically the songs weren't very strong on Bossanova and Trompe.

i'll back you up logan with the trompe quote. the title track is genius. TLM maybe weaker or not as live and raw as COP and SR but it still gave us letter to memphis, motorway, jefrey to name but a few. if this is franks songwriting ability at its least imaginative then...i dont know. i play the gee-tar and man is trompe fun to play. |

Bossanova and Trompe le Monde are the albums that made the pixies something special. Sure COP,SR and Doolittle are classics but they are trashy and screamy, I love it, but this trashband also could play real pop music and surfy with SF themes and UFO's, I dig their diversity.
