Don't think this has been mentioned yet. "the Pixies are booked for New York at the Lollapalooza Festival on Aug. 17 at Randalls Island." In the May 3rd NY Times.
Me thinks this will make a nice summer vaction. How far away is NY city from Randalls Island?

If Pixies, Sonic Youth & Flaming Lips all play on the same day, I'm there. That is, if they ever announce a So Cal date. What's the deal? It's like two months away and they've only announced three (Lollapalooza) dates in total. |

IMMEDIATE RELEASE
Pixies Will Headline Lollapalooza Main Stage 2nd Day in NY & LA

Thanks for the directions you two. Seems pretty straight forward, lol. I've never been to NY, hopefully I can scrape together some cash. |

What are chances of playing the Boston leg of Lollapalooza in Tweeter Center on previous weekend? Please say good. Please say good. If they don't play that I guess it'll be winter before thay get here? Is there any other way they could play Boston before mid September, when I leave these shores and miss my chance?

Read the press release. The only two Lollapalooza dates with the Pixies are NY and LA. |

Thank for the help! Hadn't thought of that! I'm just saying, the Pixies tour is pretty quiet in mid August and they haven't announced a Boston date yet. Both the Pixies tour and the Lollapalooza lineups are being realised in a very staggered fashion, so it might still happen. (Just weeks ago, we were told Pixies definately not playing Lollapalooza). The only reason I can see this being a non-starter is if the band don't want their first hometown gig of the tour being on a shared festival bill. Unless you're some kind of Lollapalooza or Pixies insider lighten the tone, man.

Read it again, because that's not what it says. It says the only NYC and LA dates are Lollapalooza, not the only Lollapalooza dates are nYC and LA. |

This is MERELY speculation...nothing rooted in fact, BUT...I think they're gonna add another Lollapalooza date between the 21st and 26th....somewhere actually IN Southern California (Ventura doesn't count in my book as So Cal). Mabye Verizon. They COULD conceivably do it...there's only 1 day between the WA and Mountain View stops.
AND the Pixies could play, cause they're not due in Japan until the 30th, which is the next date they have lined up after Lolla. And Japan is a festival, so they probably don't even need all their equipment.
A boy can only dream. |

As for my prebvous post...it's looking less likely: The one hurdle....Verizon has the "Fish Fest" planned for the 25th, which is a Sunday. Chances are, they wouldn't have it the day before, as there'd need to be a lot of cleanup for sunday's event...especially considering it's a christian festival (they would need to do a full scrubdown). Lollapalooza on a weekday? Dunno how that would fly. So...break down 21st and 22nd. Move and set up 22nd. Lolla 23rd and 24th. Breakdown 24th and 25th. Set up Fish Fest 25th??? Uh oh...chances are looking slimmmer. |

Wow... this sucks. I really hope that "only date in the NYC area" deal is inaccurate. One show in NYC, and it's not in Manhattan, and it's a full day festival on a friggin' TUESDAY? I can't take off work to pay way too much money to go see a bunch of bands I don't care about...
I demand a proper Pixies concert in New York City. They must serve me! |

Have to read it carefully... I think what it means is, this is the only NY Lollapalooza date, and no other NY Pixies dates have been confirmed...
...yet ;) |
