So, quite a few of you on here are married, and I was having a discussion the other day, about a married woman being bought drinks at a bar.

What are your opinions on this?
should married women except drinks?
There are so many different situations that there must be some circumstances where this would be acceptable?

i'd be pretty pissed off if my *girlfriend* accepted drinks being bought for her in a bar (from someone she didn't know)... i've always been under the assumption that it's accepting the offer to flirt or maybe acknowledging they're interested, or available...

True, but at the sametime,i mean, i except drinks off guys now..but not all guys, only ones that i either a) know of somewhat, or b) arent too creepy.

Most the time i just fuck off after they bought me the drink anyway. hahaha.im so cruel.

Apart from anything else, isn't it just plain dangerous to accept drinks from strangers these days - y'know in case you wake up 15 hours later to find that you've been "enjoyed" by an entire rugby team?

haha! well, i'd like to say a bit of both, but i do have mostly the helpless poor little lost boy look going for me... especially after a few drinks when i decide my mates are boring and i'm going to sit on my own for a while in the corner... lol! works every time for getting girls... they see a lad looking miserable on their own, obviously single and you don't have to contend with their mates being about... makes you easy, i reckon.

I don't want to behave like an expert in English, but Mel, you should buy yourself a dictionary and check the meaning of the word "except".

Perhaps it's a dialect from Birmingham, though.

I live in Birmingham and we are perfectly aware of the difference between "Accept" and "Except".

Adnan, your patronising tone is quite unexceptable.

To answer the original question: my wife doesn't go to bars.
And if she did, I don't think she'd accept anything from a stranger.

But if she did, I would not be mad. I must say it would take a bit more than a free drink for me to feel threatened.

After all, I kept my cool when this guy sent her a big bunch of flowers with a calling card attached bearing his cell phone number and an invitation to dinner.

Well I don't work for the tourist board, I was just responding to that saucy Frenchman. And pointing out that I've visited his country a number of times and found it unacceptional.

Just making the subtle point that most places are better than Birmingham. In the nicest possible way, obviously.

I don't want to behave like an expert in Geography but Adnan, you should buy yourself an atlas and check the spelling of the word "Baghdad".

Heh heh heh, touche.

I've never sent drinks over to anybody, but mostly because girls these days have no respect anyway and would take the drink and give you dirty looks at the same time. I see it often enough, being in the industry sort of...

If she took a drink from someone, I'd be more disappointed in her abusing/misleading the person than in a cheating sort of way, I think. Now if she went over and flirted with him, then we might be having a chat.

You know Jedi, there is such a thing as being too GD confident in your relationship. I'd bust some nuts if a guy offered my wife a drink, let's not even discuss the atrocities if there were flowers and calling cards.

I don't know what the social mores are for this situation, but I would never accept a drink from a guy (other than my husband), out of mutual respect. I think it's pretty obvious what the gesture means.

I feel more comfortable buying my own drinks.

I hear you... But see, the thing is, instead of calling the guy, she called ME right away (the flowers were delivered at her workplace), and gave me his number. Despite every single female around her urging her to do just the opposite.

So I left him a friendly little message and that was the last we heard of him Of course now she gets a little frustrated because she never knew who he was. (It was a freaky "You don't know who I am but I know you" kinda deal.)

Plus, I knew right away he didn't stand a chance. There were spelling mistakes on his little cardie.

I've gone through a phase when I was too suspicious, and it was hell for both. So I'd rather be too confident. As French director Claude Chabrol once said, "I'd rather be cuckold than jealous. It's less painful."

I wanted to say something about the "except" but I didn't want to look like a grammar bitch. I thought maybe that was a UK thing to spell it like that.

hehe, remember on Family Guy when Peter was so jealous.

My fave was when he ran up to the stage to knock that guy out for saying this one's for all the ladies out there.
