Today's random song of the day is Nimrod's Son.
What do you think of it?
lyrics One night upon my motorcycle through the desert (I) sped And smashed my body so that all my friends thought I was dead My sister held me close and whispered to my bleeding head "You are the son of a motherfucker."
One, two, three, four
I shook all night and held her hand Shock the people, well I'll be damned Land of plenty, land of fun To find out I'm Nimrod's son
Oh, bury me far away, please, bury me The joke has come upon me
In my motorcycle mirror I think about the life I've led And how my soul's been leaking out the holes where I had bled My image spoke to me, yes to me it often said "You are the son of incestuous union."
One, two, three, four
Now, my head is clear My roof has walls My daughter's pure My son is tall Land of plenty, land of fun To find out I'm Nimrod's son
Oh, bury me far away, please, bury me The joke has come upon me

one of the highlights off COP i prefer the 2nd half slowed down version the Pixies sometimes played, but even more the totally slowed down version FB&TC play nowdays... it works very very well.

I was led to believe 'Shock the people' was 'Chocolate people'....oh, well! Yeah, it's a pretty cool song. I think 'The Holiday Song' right before it is also a biblical one-followed by 'Dead' and 'Gouge Away' on Doolittle(any more 'bible' tunes? I can't remember). I personally feel Black may have been influenced by Dylan's 'Highway 61' song lyrics....mebbe!

I love the 'Oh bury me' part, along with the simple solo and chord progression that follows.
Might sound strange, but sometimes, this song reminds me of 'Psychokiller' by the Talking Heads.

I have always loved this song. The lyrics tell a simple, fucked up story, and the screaming at the end gives me goosebumps. Plus I love the last line. haha

I LOOOOOOOOOOOVE this song. The riff is a classic. It reminds me of so many other riffs. I was thinking about this on the bus today, and the best I could come up with was Ace Of Spades.

I'm not sure I see any Biblical influence in "Holiday Song," but the other ones Carl mentioned definitely have some. I think some reviewer said that "Levitate Me" was "bashing the Bible," but I don't know that I can see it. And, of course, there's the Hebrew numerology in "Monkey Gone To Heaven."

I always thought that Holiday song was about masturbation. Not sure about the biblical influence either... the other ones I agree however.

Well I'll be damned, I thought "Levitate Me" was about masturbation.

Love Nimrods Son. Been playing it a lot lately. This one sounds like a V. Femmes song.

Great song, especially for late night party sessions with friends When the guitar comes out this is always played and enjoyed. Been so long since the first listen of COP but i can still remember being blown away by this short amazing album.(not ep!) |

I never liked Come on Pilgrim. Definitly is not my fave. But this song is really nice, together with ed is dead, caribou and i've been tired(for me this one and vamos are the bridge to surfer rosa) The melody reminds me a western movie. |

I agree it sounds like Violent Femmes now you mention it... I love this track, although its not my fave from COP. Some definitive Pixies stop/start moments though.

EVERY early Pixies song is about either masturbation or incest. "Holiday Song" happens to combine the two. It's like how every song from Bossanova through Cult of Ray is about outer space, and every song after that period is about travelling or relationship difficulties.
(Obviously, this is a gross exaggeration, and I hope no one takes it seriously.)

I thought, for the longest time, that "My roof has walls" was My woop ass balls. Always found that line very funny. |

My personal fave of CoP is definitely Isla de Encanta. However, there's no bad songs on CoP/SR (perhaps Tony's Theme, but I like the intro). I wouldn't say that of Doolittle - I don't like Tame, it is really too simple.

It was a joke Adam, I wasn't refering to your earlier posts, just the post asking if anyone else thought like you two. I then insinuated that you both like to have sex with animals, but that I don't feel the same.
Jeez, it wasn't hard. Nor funny but I exoected you to at least get it.
