re- Pixies "theme from narc" [1991]
I know the original tune the song is based on comes from the arcade game Narc circa 1988, but I'm not familiar with the game.. Has anyone heard the theme tune and/or do they maybe have a sound clip/ mp3 of the music?? It would be interesting to hear, for me anyway..
btw, while the song writer is usually credited as "unknown" or "copyright control" I suspect it was written by Tony Williams, who wrote the theme music for other similar era games produced by his company...

NARC is being remade right now. It's due for release in the fall. Maybe they'll use the Pixies version of the song for the new game... probley not, but it'd be cool.

I have the original Narc theme on CD-R. I'll try to convert it to mp3 and upload it somewhere if I have time.

My god!! I just read an article about the remake of 'N.A.R.C' and it sounds fucking hillarious. Apparantly as you bust the dealers you've got to ingest the drugs they drop as power ups, weed slows down time, LSD makes all the bad guys grow giant devil heads etc. That has got to be the most controversial game of all time, if they put the Pixies cover in there I know this will be my all time favourite game regardless of how shit it plays. I swear I'm not making any of this up see for yourselves...

"Entertainment is growing up," said Midway spokesperson Reilly Brennan. "I know this is a sensitive topic these days, but this is what people want to see. Look at TV: People love The Sopranos, The Shield, Nip/Tuck. That's what people are watching. ... We're not trying to glamorize drugs in any way and we're not trying to promote the use of them."

The original Narc coin-op video game was a side-scrolling shooting game. You were a drug-enforcement agent with an automatic rifle or two, shooting the bad guys, and I think also seizing cash and drugs along the way. Two could play at once and team up. I never really got into it but I do remember the game.

My -other- favorite video game theme cover is Korobeiniki (tetris theme) by Ozma. You can find it on Kazaa but be sure to get the one that is 2162 Kb, because this is the non-live version. The live version is somewhat crappy recording.
