I'm a geologist masquerading as a geographic information systems (GIS) & GPS specialist. the current situation kinda blows but my girl (also a geo & engineer) just got an email from a buddy in mongolia lookin for help exploring for gold. would be a dream for us as that's what we've both studied. yep, met my girlfriend in a strip mine. steel toes and hard hats are damn sexy on a woman. you outta see her drive a 320 ton komatsu truck. oooooooooooh yeah! |

OK, I signed my contract yesterday, which will make me an investment banker after July 15th. I won't have a social life any more, so I guess I'll still be posting here, though not very often.
Have some wine, please, don't run away.
An investment banker, trust me you'll have tons of time ;) |

Bein' ornery, stickin' it to the man, and confusing our cat.
I used to work for *Initech*, now I'm an artist making zip-ola with a 5-yr Art degree. Ahh, it truly is the American Dream(tm)!
Also seem to manage to do a fair bit of gardening, mowing the millions of damn grasses, and doing chores "til the cowcomeshome" (www.engrish.com).

Wanker : yep, the Americans dream of money while the French dream of having sex with beautiful women.
I imagine I'll become some sort of Patrick Bateman next year, chopping whores with a nice medieval ax, brushing my teeth 10 times a day and telling girls at the club about the latest merger I've been working on.
Lots of people working in IT around here. I guess they're the ones who post the most, cause of the computer...geeks! (I must admit I scored pretty hign on the geek test, though)

Okay, that's my real job. I'm on call these days though. I only work once a week or less if there are no vacations, people calling in sick, etc. going on. They keep sending those forty hour checks though.

With the safety devices my train is equipped with my top speed is 79mph. And that's about as fast as I desire to go in something that takes that long to stop. Gets ugly when people decide they don't want to live on this planet anymore. Luckily I've managed to keep that very ugly aspect of the job to a minimum. I'm very proactive with the brake and horn. Trucks and such I may have some control over whether or not I will hit them but I've had a couple of people jump in front of my train while going 79.
Okay, going skating now.

benji, she thinks it's all about finding crystals with which to decorate tiaras. Is that what you do all day?
Seriously, what kind of degree do you have and what kind of work do you do? I'd love to tell her. Thanks!

well i've got a geology degree. it's a science degree obviously. i also have a masters degree as well, but that was just cause i enjoyed being a student too much and didn't want to enter the real world.
my job title is actually a Mine Geologist, so i work in a gold mine. it's quite different to what other geologists do.... my job is simply to make sure that the rock that has gold in it goes to the mill and that the rock that has no gold in it goes to the waste dump. we do drilling and sampling and then we use computer programs to create models of where the gold is and we use that to tell the digger drivers where to send the rock. not sure how much detail you're after.....
but to get a bit better idea of the sizes involved:
and bear in mind that where i work is actually not very big. other places have much much bigger machines!
all i can say, thank god for polio! brian |
