Jesus, I'm horribly sorry for falling behind on this! Umm...let me see....

MK Ultra - John Dean

http://johnvanderslice.com/mp3sjv/MK.Ultra_John.Dean.mp3

Pretty cool song. You can actually download all three of MK-Ultra's albums at www.mkultra.com
They broke up a couple years ago and John Vanderslice loves to share music...so the albums are free for download. In fact, his entire first 2 albums from his solo career are free, too. ( at www.johnvanderslice.com ) Plus a handful of tracks from his other albums...so that's about it, yep. If you enjoy this song...give the others a shot, I don't think you'll be dissapointed...

I'll review all of the other songs in the Music Ring on this thread....give me an hour or two, hahaha...Again, sorry!

Cat On Form - "Back Off Man, I'm A Scientist": I like the instrumentation and everything...but those "vocals" are really abrasive...That's all I really have to say about this song...moving on....

Optiganally Yours - "Geppeto": I'm really enjoying this! Nice and mellow. I really like the vocal layering (ala Pinback). It's pretty catchy but gets kindof old after a while, still good though!

Mclusky - "Alan Is A Cowboy Killer": Yum. I've always had a thing feedback, so as soon as I heard it in the beginning it was reassuring. The soft/loud dynamics are used quite well in this song. He's got an interesting voice that I am really digging...

Sex Clark Five - "Because of You": Hmm...I'm not sure if I like this one or not. I'll have to listen to it more and get back to you on it...

New Pornographers - "The Laws Have Changed": This is pretty good. I've heard New Pornographers songs that are much better, but I'm sure you chose this one because it's one of the only ones available online for download (legally).

Unicorns - "Tuff Ghost": Wow, I like this song a lot. I think it's the tempo changes that do it for me. That and the great intrumentation on it, of course. Very nice.

Mike Watt - "Like a Ghost on Fire": I'm not sure what is annoying me about this song...but something is definitely bugging me like hell. It's probably the weird computerized noises throughout the entire thing that reminds me of a 9 year old making fake fart noises with a balloon...anywho...moving on...

Rilo Kiley - "The Execution": I really wish the orchestral music in the intro had stayed throughout the entire song. The prettiness of the intro soon turned into barely tolerable music...but that's just me...anyways...

Baboon - "Closer": Haha, I love how silly the singer is...you know, up until the (too)heavy chorus...There are few people who can scream and get away with it, let alone make it sound good. Let's see..Charles, of course...Cobain.....hmm...there aren't many. Van Morrison can wail like a motherfucker..jeeze that guy rocks, but anyways...yeah...sorry for going on, haha...

The songs I didn't review either couldn't download for some reason or the link is dead...

Hey Crouton! Missed ya bud.
Not to distract, but apparently that link for my song is bad, looks like it got moved. Here's another link to a page where you can download the Evergreen song "Plastic Bag" -

apparantly my link is bad too. here's one that works:

http://web3.epitonic.com/files/reg/songs/mp3/Beulah-If_We_Can_Land_a_Man_On_The_Moon_Surely_I_Can_Win.mp3

here's a link to my song topic if anyone else wishes to fulfill their music ring duties.. http://forum.frankblack.net/topic.asp?TOPIC_ID=6113

it's funny you post a John Vanderslice song because i think he's good friends with the Beulah guys.. he always opens for them in San Francisco (where they're both from).

the song has a catchy guitar riff and his voice is pretty good. criticisms: i think it lacks a little energy and is a tad redundant, but i wouldn't be angry if someone had it on in the car or something.. at least not right away.

Floop: Indeed! He's friends with a ton of people...Logan Whitehurst (The Velvet Teen, and the Junior Science Club), David Bazaan (Pedro the Lion), Beulah, as you said..he collaborated with Spoon on a lot of tracks and plays live with them a lot...Mountain Goats...just tons of people. He's a cool guy. He heads Tiny Telephone Music, too!

Too drunk to listen to the song right now, but I know John Vanderslice opened for Jets to Brazil and as lame as it may be that makes him cool in my book.

Cool song! I like it. I'm going to check out this man's music.

Thank you very much for the links, too. Now I know what I'm going to do with my Sunday afternoon...

Sorry, I'm crap at commenting on music. Interesting band name, though.

I like it. Nice stripped down sound, jangly guitars and clean drums.

Trying to think of a comparison - early Squeeze maybe??

First time I've heard any of this bands music. I shall investigate further. Top pick Crouton!!

Man, when barney mentioned Squeeze I was hoping for something like "Take Me I'm Yours" or "Bang Bang"

-

Pretty good song, but it was never really able to grab my attention. I kept trying to remember bands that this sounded like. The actual song became background.

-

Kinda reminds me of Amberslam or the late, great Unrest

Well, it really reminds me of Collective Soul.

Not a huge fan of this one at all, something doesn't quite sit right with me. Maybe I need a couple more listens. Anyway if everyone has done we shall move on. I shall change the link next time round floop.

I love the guitar on this song, but other than that it really doesn't do much for me. It's got a pretty good vibe, but it's not something I could listen to all the time.

Nothing is ever something.

Don't like it, it doesn't do anything for me. It seems very standard, but the singer is pretty good, I'll give you that.

Wasn't boring. Has a good guitar sound. I think I liked the guitar playing the most out of anything else in the song, it still is a fun song.
