Wow, somebody actually responded! I almost forgot to look.
I dunno about falling bridges, or building demolitions,  but I'd love to hear what Laurie Anderson has to say.

If someone knows the French band Air, they always give Le Corbusier (a French architect) as their major source of inspiration...
There are not so many people from NYC on this forum. Statiscally, there should be more...
I’m not sure what this could mean / I don’t think you’re what you seem / I do admit to myself / That if I hurt someone else / Then we’d never see just what we’re meant to be |

Heh, possibly <tents fingers>.
It's sort of a running joke in engineering that whenever someone talks about resonant frequencies and the importance of looking at things like that in design, they show the video of Tacoma Narrows bridge collapsing because the wind was resonating in the bridge and developed a standing wave which collapsed it. It's actually a really crazy video, but I've seen it 4 times in my 5 years at school.

Remember that Pioneer car stereo commercial? They used the same footage of "Galloping Girty" - some guy is rawkin' out in his car, the car is shaking like when bass from bad rap rattles your teeth, he looks out the window and notices the whole bridge is about to disintegrate, and switches off his radio ..."uh, sorry".
My husband and I have contemplated that if we ever were to go "Natural Born Killers", we'd make a device that produces the "brown sound", and point it at will. Just kidding, Attorney General. Hope you're feeling better.

Haha, never saw that commercial, but that'd be pretty hilarious. Soon as I get a new car I'm going to put some money into a good stereo too and maybe just for you, I'll replace the brake (which I never use anyway) with a brown sound pedal. :) University Bridge, beware!

adnan, re: French Band Air.. they're like my new favorite band. i can't get enough of them.. that's very French of them to claim that an architect is their major source of inspiration for their music. |

hey adnan, i was just doing a little research on Le Corbusier. apparantly he's not French, but often mistaken for being French..

As for every French speaking guy from Canada, Belgium, Switzerland, Africa etc., since he's successful we tend to say he's French. Personnally, I didn't say Le Corbusier was French (but I thought it).
You know, Floop, not everyone in France reads Les Cahiers du Cinéma, we have some jerks around here too.

just in the little i've seen, it all seems to fit in with AIR's aesthetic somehow.. i'm curious to check out more of Le Corbusier's work.

I was struggling to remember who this quote was from so I did some googling and confirmed once again that anything can be found on the internet. Here is a whole web page devoted to determining where the quote about talking about music is like dancing about architecture came from. Elvis Costello is usually given credit for it, but Laurie Anderson claims it's a Steve Martin quote.

I met Nicolas Godin from Air three years ago, near the Opéra Garnier, in Paris.
He was just walking around, shopping. We talked for a couple of minutes, I told him how I liked his music very much and stupid stuff like that, and he was very kind and extremely polite. He is also a very shy person, I think. He didn't act like a rock star or something, he even gave the impression of being surprised that someone liked his music.
We talked about the high school where he met Jean-Benoît Dunckel, the other guy from Air, and there were a couple of persons we both knew (my girlfriend at that time was from Versailles, like them).
It is definitely my best experience with meeting a famous person.

As for every French speaking guy from Canada, Belgium, Switzerland, Africa etc., since he's successful we tend to say he's French. Personnally, I didn't say Le Corbusier was French (but I thought it).
I've noticed this last year, after Justine Henin won the French open she was a local suddenly even though she is from Belgium. I wonder though if half of Belgium doesn't sometimes think themselves to be French.
Air makes great music (the new cd is very, very good) but that dinky structure on the 10 000 Hz Legend cover makes me relieved they did not get involved in architecture.
Does anyone know if there are any Frank Gehry buildings in Paris or London. I'm looking forward to see the new Swiss Re headquarters (in London) which Norman Foster designed, I hope they allow visitors into the building.

In this case, I think architecture is dancing about music. Looks like Einsturzende Neubauten.

Thanks. I like Gehry ever since I've seen his "Fred&Ginger" building in Prague. I'd love to visit the Guggenheim in Bilbao. I'll make sure to go check the American Center out in Paris when I'm there for the Pixies.
