I know, we all love Pixies. But nobody's perfect. there are always a music that is not so good, that is out of place.
Which is that song that could be banned from an album?
For me it could be Stormy weather. Is not a totally bad song, but kind of spoil the end os bossanova. and I don´t like space ( I believe in) |

I'd say it depends on the artist. Some of my favorite They Might Be Giants songs are B-sides. And, of course, Frank has "Pan American Highway."

stormy weather, i think, retains one of the best quirks of black's song writing skills: in the middle of the song, for no reason at all, the tempo increases! Sure it doesn't compare to the dynamics of gouge away, but because even a small amount is there, i think it automaticly places stormy weather not at the bottom of the barrel.
the navajo know, now, there is a song that makes you smile in it's simplicity, but it lacks the power and good vibe that other simple pixies songs gave us. ed is dead and there goes my wave of mutilation for example. INCREDABLY simple songs, but they were fucking great.
the navajo know would have to be my not least favorite song, but most disappointing.
well fuck, i guess i didn't respond to this thread correctly.

I think the best Pixies song is the b-side Santo. And TMBG has more b-sides and rarities than it does major release songs. Both bands, I hate to say, are infallable in my eyes. The world is a better place for each and every song they recorded. I can't even comprehend a song being the "worst." Rephrased as the "least bestest" may be a little more comprehendable to me. I know. I'm stupid. That's just the way my mind operates. I admit, it's possible for them to have written a bad song, but I haven't heard it.

You've gotta be kidding me!
Some of Frank Black's best songs are b-sides.
If you love a band and you've heard all their "official" work more times than you can even count, what the hell else are you SUPPOSED to do but seek out b-sides and rarities? It's, like, the final frontier of exploring a band's work...
If anything, listening to b-sides and demos (creative stages of songs) only bolsters my respect for a band's songwriting. I'm perplexed by you stance |

I've yet to hear a Pixies song that sucks. Now if you're talking about which Pixies song we like least, mine would be Blown Away.

I agree! If I listen to all their albums back-to-back, it's the only song I ever skip. I have since burned my own discs without this song and Stormy Weather.

I can't stand The Navajo Know. I've never skipped it for respect, but Francis vocals in this song get me mad. |

Come on Twin what are your choices for worst or least best song? Oh, and sorry for spelling them wrong. Tell me what is so great about Velouria? It kills the mood of Bossanova for me right off the bat. |

"Velouria" is one of the Pixies' best songs, as far as I'm concerned. It's very majestic and grand. It pretty much defines the mood of the album for me, rather than killing it.

I tend to skip Is She Weird and Down to the Well, but I don't hate them. For some reason I often skip Velouria, too, even though I like it...
Silver is the ultimate Pixies fan splitter...
Stormy Weather is cool as hell, but you have to grasp the idea that he's pushing the repetition as far as he can for the sheer hell of it, whiners be damned.

I love that solo Black Francis bootleg moment where he stops playing 'Levitate Me' and says 'Fuck that song, man!' 'The Happening' is probably the most filler-ish moment on any Pixies release, although it is just a little gag.

Like Itchload said, this topic has been beaten to death in the past.
But since you asked...I have to agree with ramona. Tony's Theme is the stinker of the bunch. It's just...lame. Has none of the redeeming qualities that draw me to the Pixies like a moth to the flame. I tend to skip it every time nowadays. Frank was right when he said "it kinds sucks." Big time.
what is so great about Velouria? It's just a beautiful song. It rocks and is very pretty at the same time (a hard feat to acheive when writing a song)...the chord progression is quite unique and the melody is great. the last bit of v-e-l-o-u-r-i-a is just brilliant. and I think it is one of the most definitive songs as far as Bossanova's "sound" goes. |
