Just wondering, for those of you who have visited the US and the UK, are the cardboard toilet paper tubes the same size in both countries? Very odd discussion...

Excellent question.
My guess would be that they are the same. But it's not like toilet paper rolls have to be a universal size. What kind of tourist would take his/her country's own toilet paper to another country?
I think the globalization of toilet paper is a pertinent issue in this day and age.

That is almost as pertinent a topic as the international utilization of the auto-flush toilet. THAT should be the long-term goal of the United States, instead of this "war on terror" nonsense. |

Hahaha!!! Jim I can not believe you are asking this.
Actually, a lot of our companies have made 'smaller' tubes, something about getting more paper, which i guess makes sense....maybe you Should actually bring a roll over here? and we can compare, and tell the board. since Proverbial cereal is so intrigued, maybe even post a picture.

Yeah but they can't make the diameter of the tube too small as then they're liable to alienate those of us with chunky toilet paper holders...

Tubular facts:
You can make a pringles tube into a very effective antenna for wireless ethernet (~20km range).
Wrapping paper tubs make for great swashbuckling adventures and/or lightsabre battles.
The world's largest tube/enclosed waterslide was designed in Ottawa and now stands at Holiday World in Santa Claus, Illinois, at over 10 stories high and almost 1000 ft long.
Rolls of toilet paper, as we now know them, were invented in the US in the late 1800s, though toilet paper was first manufactured in sheet form by England several decades prior. It took until the mid-1920s for toilet paper to really catch on, though, because people prior could recycle their old magazines. Now you know why some people stock them in their bathrooms!
That's all for now.

Henry VIII had an indoor privvy back in the 16th C. He must have wiped his backside on something so maybe the toilet paper thing goes back further than we all seem to think.

I don't know about a difference in the width of the roll, but I seem to remember that the UK toilet paper was wrapped around the roll the opposite way. It was a bi*ch to get used to.

Can't you just flip the roll around?
