Am I mistaken in my thinking that the usual difference between the Nazi swastika and the original, is that the former is set at a 45 degree angle? I know this is not always the case, but I believe only the Nazi version does this. www.wikipedia.com has some interesting info (for starters): http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Swastika when the branch is connected to the Maltese Cross, http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Knights_Templar

Thanks for the links apl4eris. Although, it seems many prefer to dwell in a constant state of contempt prior to investigation. |

I didn't mean my post to be leaning in one way or the other in this discussion. Just a matter of interest, as the topic is intriguing. Your part in the debate so far has not been interesting. As I mentioned, I have read that most Nazi swastikas tilt at 45 degrees, and some of their swastika representations are of the normal, untilted form. This does nothing to further or detract from your position. In my opinion, it's flippant and clumsy to not immediately address the fact that this symbol is used by and (primarily in the west) associated with "neo-Nazis". Your claim of ignorance of the inherent issues is laughable. In an ideal world, good ideas, and symbols of those ideas, would never be tainted by evil use, but it's naive to pretend people will not have a negative reaction to swastikas, especially when they are sold next to other items that use the SS symbol. Also keep in mind the overall attitude with which you approached this forum - given the context, why should we have given you the benefit of doubt? You honestly pretend to think spamming a forum won't bring on contempt?

apl I said and meant I don't need sales. I sell EVERYTHING I make and there is now a 6 month wait for custom orders. I'm not even taking any untill I start catching up. This forum isn't the only place I've gotten flack for some of the stuff I make. As it is an international forum I wondered what people from around thought about the maltese cross. (Not that their opinions would sway me from making what sells)
I post on another forum too. It is different. Most of the people are musicians and artist that have stuff going on they like to share about. Half the threads have links to stuff they're working on. Very few posers. I'm new to the internet. This was the second forum I posted on. I won't be hanging out here because it seem rather superficial and not reality based.
Jessie James (west coast choppers) is doing incredible marketing his shirts and clothing with HUGE, traditional iron crosses atatched. Must still be lots of Nazis around the world huh?

Funny how the majority of bitching (generally speaking, not here) about this kind of stuff comes from white liberals.

you wouldn't expect neonazis to protest about swasticas would you?it's normal that liberals protest to the proud exhibition of racist\nazi \you name it crap.i don't think the colour has anything to do with it,free and intelligent thinking is not a white privilege.

Mad Dawg should be an example for all of us. His parents could not afford to send him to a decent school - he started working at an early age. His father used to say "more earning, less learning". He started making Nascar rings for truck drivers, then SS rings for redneck bikers of Indiana. But he was not satisfied with this situation, he longed for something more.
He started his spiritual quest when he discovered oriental mysticism. He understood that this funny cross his father had tattoed on his chest was not only the symbol of that cheesy German with a moustache. It was also a hindu symbol of light and eternity.
Soon after he discovered Zarathustra, and the mystical dualism in one of the most ancient religions of the world. Today, he has become a master of the 13th century gnosis, and Manichean christianism. He is pissed when people don't understand that the mystical rings he makes for Hell's Angels are not related to the nazis but to Jacob Boehme and the Fedeli di Amore gnosis. He is misunderstood.
Keep sharing your science with your friends the bikers, Mad Dawg!
Have some wine, please, don't run away. |

Adnan and Andalusia, bash the firefighters and Vets in the secret nazi links above if you want to make a difference. I am just the little guy. They spread the evils of that cross image to more eyes in a day than I will in a lifetime!!!
If you like I can provide you with MANY more links to racist that use similar crosses as their symbol.

Mad Dawg, why do you know these racist websites? do you use them as inspiration? i though the idea of your orginal post, (apart from to advertise your rings) was to ascertain whether people found them to be offensive. By showing us websites who use the crosses as a racist symbol you are just proving that they do have racist overtones.
Do you want us to think that you are a racist? as it really won't boost your sales, not on this site anyway. |

Gracie did you look at the links? They use crosses like the ones I make as their symbol. I just posted a couple to make my detractors look/feel stupid. I could post DOZENS of similar links to Patriotic Americans that use the same cross featured in much of my jewelry as their symbol.

world will be a safer world the day tha an association of "american veteran of local wars" is set up the cross is not nazi, the cross was a jewish mode of execution, dont know if they invented it possibly not, looks similar to celtic crosses and it was used by the germans of the hansa. Americans did not win WW2, Russians bore the heavy weight, and about the french they were in a kind of covert civil war as there was an interest of some extreme-right groups to have a nazi regime the ring is horrible, someone can get drowned if "it" tries to swim with it

The cross was a Roman method of execution, not Jewish. The traditional Jewish method was stoning. Sorry if this is a bit morbid, but you know what happens when one person gets something wrong... It snowballs and snowballs and some chimp gets elected.

I am soooo disappointed in you, Mad dawg. At first I thought you were a funny, clever guy, but you're just the kind of american who make people want to hate you and your country. Thankfully I know you're a just a pitiful exception. You probably went and spilled french wine during your glorious War in Irak Part II. Stupid sheep. You suck, Mad Dawg. And don't go and say Oh what did you do noteworthy in your life, just because you maybe recorded and sold a mediocre rap-metal album in the 90's after you saw Rage Against The Machine and thought this works, let's do this. I pity you, Mad Dawg. I really do. |

Actually JuJuBe I was in the first punk band to sell out a major venue in Los Angeles. Once when I needed money I produced some rap demos for a baseball player nemed Daryl Strawberry and his friend Richie Rich. I was pretty imprssed that I would be meeting Richie Rich untill I found out he was not the guy from the cartoon. He got a record deal with the demos and a got a HUGE bonus. |

heres some history for ya; Since the Knights of Saint John became bound by the Augustinian rule which involved monastic vows of chastity, poverty and obedience the Knights are also expected to observe the eight obligations represented by the symbol of the eight-pointed cross. The Knights of Saint John are now know as the Knights of Malta and the eight-pointed cross became known as the Maltese cross.
The eight obligations are the Beatitudes given in the Sermon on the Mount (Matthew 5:3-10) were to:
1)Live in truth 2)Have faith 3)Repent of sins 4)Proof of humility 5)Love justice 6)Be merciful 7)Be sincere and whole-hearted 8) Endure persecution
The German award the Iron Cross is perhaps the most well known and historically significant use of the eight pointed cross . Its tradition began when, in 1813, King Friedrich Wilheim III of Prussia first instituted it during the War of Liberation against Napoleon. Though it was supposed to be a campaign medal, it was reinstituted in 1870 for the Franco-Prussian War, and again in 1914 for World War I. The defeat of Germany in that war did not diminish military pride in the long term, and the Cross continued to be a symbol of prestige in the inter-war years.

The Maltese Cross was is meant to be a heroic symbol not a racist symbol. That is why it is a medal for firefighters, and other such organizations. The cross is named the Maltese Cross because of a war that started against (pre-islamic Syrian-Arabians) Saracens people for the Holy Land nearly 4 centuries ago. The Saracens used glass bombs with a highly flammable liquid called naptha in them. They would throw the bombs and cover the knights and use a flaming torch to set them on fire. The other knights, trying to save their fellow man, made heroic attempts to save them from the fire. At the end of the war they surviving knights were awarded with a medal of honor, which was the Maltese Cross. The Knights of St John were from the island of Malta, and rightfully named the first firefighters. You can read about them on the net, just search the Knights of St John, or Knights of Malta. So, in Maddawg's defense, I do not believe it is a racial symbol either. You want communism and prejudice....get married.
