Anything listed as downtown will be close to the venue as Spokane doesn't have a very large downtown area. Just pull up a map on yahoo or mapquest to see how close a hotel in your price range is to the venue.

As far as drinks before the show, check back on this thread when it gets closer to the big day. Maybe I'll try to organize a little pre-show gathering for people here. The venue itself has a restaraunt and something like 8 or 9 bars. I also have a little inside info on how to get in before the doors actually open for those of you who want to get smashed to pieces down in front.

God I really hope people don't mosh. That was one thing i was GLAD went out with the 90s.

What kind of venue is it? There's no info on the website since it seems relatively new. Anyone have any experience or know what it's like? I don't even know the capacity!

I haven't been to the Big Easy yet, since it is a relatively new venue, but I might be going there to see Death Cab For Cutie later this month, so I could post later with my thoughts on the place. To answer your question about capacity, I heard that it holds about 1,500. So, harringk, you say that you know how to get in before the show starts? I'd like to know a little bit about that...

Oh, and I thought I'd share a little story with you guys that kind of pissed me off, just 'cause it's not fair. I have a friend who, like me, missed out on getting tickets for the show. However, unlike me, he has a brother who works there occasionally as a DJ, and who is gonna get a ticket for my friend anyway (as opposed to paying 90 bucks on ebay like I did). I guess it's just all in who you know, huh? It kind of upsets me because just not fair, however I am happy for my friend because now he gets to go. And I asked him if he thought he could get more than one ticket from his brother, and he said no. Which sucks, 'cause I'm still looking for as many Spokane tickets as I can get (at least 6) for all my friends who also missed out, but who don't have siblings that work at the Big Easy...

And finally, I know that tons of people have already asked for extra Spokane tickets on this thread, and as far as I can tell not very many (if any) of the requests have been met, but I might as well add myself to the long list... So if anybody has extras, I'll gladly take 'em, but I can't afford to pay more than cost. Thanks.

If you eat in the restaraunt prior to the show, they will give you a ticket of some sort to give you priority seating or let you into the venue first (I'm not quite sure which one it is).

Maybe you could try it out with DCFC and let us know how it works. In fact I wouldn't mind seeing them either, maybe I'll check them out to scout the venue...

i think i'm going to stay at the Ridpath, thanks to harringk's recommendtion. it looks like it's just a few blocks away from the venue, and doesn't look too shabby.. http://www.rezcenter.com/usa/spokane_WA/hotels/SPO_WESC_photos.html

So how gross is the Rodeway Inn (901 W. 1st St)? it says it's across the street from the Big Easy and it was really cheap. I hope it's not a total dump. Any warnings?/ I still have time to change my reservations.

I'm not sure how much of a dump it is... I drive by that area of downtown all the time, and I've never really noticed that place, though the dump hotels aren't really in that area of downtown. It should be fine. But the Ridpath is very nice also. And if you want a really, really, crappy place (you know, the kind that charges by the hour) try the Downtowner Motel on Second and Howard. Ha, I've always thought that place was the sickest motel I've ever seen.

I might try that trick of eating in the restaurant first, but I've already spent 90 bucks on a ticket, and I'm normally a very cheap guy, so how much are the meals there? I'm thinking more and more that I should probably go to the Death Cab show just to check out the place first. I saw Death Cab at Fat Tuesday's back in October, and it was a good show, but I found myself getting kind of bored even though I like them a lot on CD. So I wasn't really planning on going to the show at the Big Easy, but I have the night off work so I might as well, plus I could scope the place out. I think I got bored because they played a lot of material from their new album, which I hadn't heard at the time, but I got it about a month ago, and it's awesome. So I'd probably like them much better if I were to see them again. Wait, this is a Death Cab For Cutie forum right?

maybe no one knew the answer to your question, so that's why no one responded to it? I didn't know, so I kept my mouth shut.

how would eating at the restaurant get you up front then? guess i'm not understanding..

unless it's like, there's a separate eating area.. and then if you eat there you can stay and watch the show from there (i've seen that at some venues). i'd rather be standing up front anyway.. can anyone shed some light?

i have to say, this is the absolute farthest in advance i've ever planned for a show.. already obsessing about the venue details.. :)

I have heard that there are several restaraunts and shops and whatnot in the same building as the venue... I'm guessing you can probably access them from inside the venue without having to go outside. I don't really know, but that's what I'm assuming. Anyway, I guessing that if you're already in one of the restaraunts, and you have a ticket, they probably just let you stay in the building, and that way you can go up to the front of the stage, and already be there by the time they let everyone else in. This is entirely speculation my part though, but perhaps harringk knows more info? It sounds a little too good to be true if you ask me... But I plan on asking my buddy who's brother works at the Big Easy if his bro knows of ways to get in early, or if he can arrange it for us somehow. I'm not gonna count on anything though. Even if it is possible, my friend probably won't feel inclined to invite me along. I don't know.

This is exactly what I was told by someone I work with, and his wife works as a bartender at the venue.

Maybe any of you who were interested in meeting up before the show for drinks should meet up at the restaurant at the Big Easy instead of at the Ridpath? I mean, if you're gonna get drinks beforehand anyway, you might as well do it this way, and have a potential chance at getting insanely close (and extremely squished) during the show, right?

Thats kind of what I was thinking, but I don't necessarily want to be right down front. Thats why I'm thinking of attending another show prior to the Pixies to scout the venue and figure out where I'd like to be for the main event.

Wow, I think it's funny that we're going so far as to "scout out the venue" ahead of time. But don't worry, I am going to as well. Ha. Yeah, so I think I'm gonna go to the Death Cab show for my scouting adventure, but mostly because I like them anyway, and their new album is awesome. If I didn't work the same night, I would probably consider seeing the Psychedlic Furs as well.

I have 2 Spokane tickets I'm looking to trade for 2 Davis tickets. I would sell them, but I bought them off of eBay foro $125 each, so I doubt anyonoe here wants to pay that. If you'd rather buy them from a FB.net member than a scalper, though - let me know.

For anyone who has ever been to the venue:

How strict is the no-camera policy? I know that at most of the venues I frequent, they state that they don't allow cameras but don't check bags or strictly enforce it, especially if you don't use the flash.

I plan to get my camera in, anyway, I just want to know if I'll have to go to great lengths to hide it...

I ate lunch at the Big Easy yesterday and asked the waitress about getting into the show early. She confirmed that if you eat in the restaraunt the day of the show they will give you a pass to get into the concert hall before anyone else. She also said there are different levels of passes to get in early, so the earlier you get into the restaraunt the better.

I also took a peek inside the concert hall and it looks really nice. There are two levels, and I think I'll try to get a table right up front on the second level.

Unfortunately, this never went out. I was at a FB&TC show last year, about 4 feet from the stage, but wisely off to the side due to the moshing folks in the middle. The worst part is there is always one or two people that get out of control (usually drunk) and end up ruining the whole thing. I generally stand on the edge and push people back in, trying to protect others around me.

I agree, though. I love being on the floor in the crowd, but hate being distracted by people pushing me. I guess I'm just getting old.

harringk, when you say there are different levels of getting in early, what do you mean? you mean, how early you get in, or what level you get into?

i'm all for getting in early and staking out a place (i'll have my urine and alcohol bags ready, so i won't have to move the rest of the night), but personally i wouldn't be into watching the show sitting at a table. i like to be in front

re: hotel recommendations. it's a little more on the pricey side, but the davenport hotel www.davenporthotel.com is literally one block from the venue and where i'll be staying. it looks pretty cool. personally, i could care less where i stay, but i'm taking a girlie, and it's a special occasion, so we're going to check this place out. (i found a way better price online than the one on the website) .

i was going to do the Ridpath but there are a bunch of really bad reviews on expedia. i'm sure it's fine, but, the Davenport wasn't much more.

it would be cool to meet some of you Northwest homies at the show..

also, harringk, do you know how strict the "no fighting" policy is? i usually like to get into fist fights when i'm at a concert, but i don't want to miss the show.

thanks in advance.

The restaraunt wasn't really big, I'm guessing there was room for maybe about 100 people. I think I'll plan on getting there an hour or two before the doors open.

The way that I understood it, was that if you were in the restaraunt very early you would get the best access "rights" to the venue, i.e. the very first people to walk through the door. Then if you were in the restaraunt a little bit later than the first group, you would be in the 2nd group through the door, but still ahead of the line outside. I'm sure if you called the restaraunt they could explain the policy much better than I.
