Apparently El Presidente will be visiting the UK later this month. I was astounded to hear that this is the first official state visit by an American president for 80 years. According to the British press we will be giving him a David Blaine type welcome and about 100,000 protesters are expected in London (seriously). That’s a whole lotta eggs coming his way!

So how is he doing back in the US? I read today that his approval rating is dropping like a stone, partly due to US unemployment figures and also because of the ongoing Iraq situation. Tony Blair has had a right mauling in the press over Iraq but he seems to be holding his position. Possibly because the opposition parties are unable to seize advantage - the Tories (Conservatives) are imploding and the Liberal Democrats cannot quite get their rating high enough to trouble Labour.

So will George W get a second term and does he genuinely think that he (and American foreign policy) is/are unfairly misunderstood around the world?

God, I hope he doesn't get a second term. He's such an idiot. But a lot of American's are idiots too...and many tend to like the familiar. I hope I am underestimating us though - his stupid dad only got one term so I hope that will be a pattern for the Bushes. Many people are upset about the war and hopefully that will carry over when they go into those little voting closets.

Oh yeah, voting. That could be a prickly issue, however. Did ya see the thread on voters' rights? http://forum.frankblack.net/topic.asp?TOPIC_ID=3738

I am of a very negative opinion about the administration, the democratic process, and the two-party system right now, so I will hold my tongue.

Not heard much from Al Gore in recent times. Is he planning to run again for the next election?

Yeah, I feel like I don't have enough options with a four (soon to be three) major parties. I'd really like to see Bush gone, but I would put my money on him staying for a second term. On the plus side, we shall soon be seeing the end of Jean Chretien and likely the beginning of Paul Martin. Not that anyone other than us Canadians care, but Jean was given to nincompoopery.

Nope. No Al Gore this time around. But if you liked Gore's ticket, Leiberman's here! ;) (ugh)
A friend of mine has developed a score sheet for the current Democratic candidates, if you are curious about who they are and what their stand on issues is. The concept is pretty cool: http://www.x13design.com/bipolar/right/04scores/

Like the score sheet concept! Ralph Nader to win then?! Poor old George W takes a bit of a battering!

I was as much interested in the topics that are considered votes winners/losers than some of the actual viewpoints. Can't believe that abortion is still a mainline issue for example. The US is an intriguing country. At the forefront of technology (space exploration, computers for example) yet almost medieval-like with other issues (like abortion, gun control etc).

Don't know much about Leiberman. I'll have a browse through his resume.

Leiberman inspires a serious feeling of the turning of sharp-pointed objects and draino in the pit of my stomach, BTW.

Orrin Hatch is trying to push an amendment to allow individuals born outside of the US to become President.

Orrin Hatch, along with several others, is also trying to remove the sunset provisions on the Patriot Act, etc.

Explain. Also, is that Bob? Cause he's changed since you & I partied together. His teeth seem to have whitened since smoking that pipe. Weird.

I'm really not a big supporter of the law that a President has to have been born in the country. What does where you're born have to do with your loyalty? On the other hand, if it keeps Arnold out of the White House...

Back to my original post. Maybe George Bush could have a stint in David Blaine's box...with a subtle twist. Perhaps he should have to eat say 10 lbs of cheese each day. I'd pay to watch that - he wouldn't have time to talk as well which would be a bonus.

Maybe when he's there y'all can introduce him to some really fucking hot curry and he'll throw up all over Blair.

It would serve the both of them right.

Maybe you can get him hooked on "Red Dwarf" and he'll just like, stay there or something.

Barney, what date is Bush over here? Protesting sounds like a giggle.
I remember following the US elections a couple of years ago and seriously not being able to believe Dubya won.

I take it you've all read Stupid White Men? Hugely enlightening book.

Actually, all joking aside, I reckon Hilary Clinton should run. She couldn't help but make a better job of it than the current bunch of jokers. Also, I'm on an Everett True-esque feminist tip...

That's a great suggestion! Maybe lace the curry with laxatives so that Blair shits over Bush, then Bush shits all over Blair in childish retaliation. I seriously doubt that Blair could handle a hot curry as it would burn his silky eloquent tongue.

I think it is about the 18th/19th November for a couple of days...if he can remember where London is located. It's a long way from good 'ol Texas. I hope he is able to cope with the funnee accents and rain.

Part way through Michael Moore's book. Doesn't hold back does he!?

You can tell by the facial expressions that Bush has just shot his load, and Tony Blair is thinking 'is he wearing protection????'
