Reading the lyrics it's safe to say that finger picking song that Frank played on social media isn't on the record?

Yeah, sounds great. Maybe it's not an original? Sure, sounds like Frank.
But he's not a finger picker most of the times?

That's very interesting. I only scanned the tracklist very quickly just to see how many there are. Prefer to keep everything else a surprise till I get my hands on the record.

This facebook song sounds a bit Honeycomb/FMRMish. Maybe connected with that trip to Nashville?

I would be keen to hear a Pixies country album.

Although, I thought that's what the last two albums were sort of.

It's funny how with each successive 2.0 release, IC is sounding more and more like the closest to the 1.0 sounds we might get (notwithstanding moments of Joey's guitar on things like Los Surfers)

IC had the most 1.0-moments. Can't stand the vocal sounds and the endless arrangements (songs going on for 4 or 5 minutes)
But can you imagine an IC with Paz-energy?

That would easily be the best one of the bunch.

Bring on Catholics-style Country Pixies. I'm all in!

Looks an announcement next week, judging by the band's socials.

All album info removed from the publicist’s site. Either it was a mistake to have it there so soon, or they knew we’d found the info so they took action. I’m sure we are not far now anyway.

Judging by the latest post, I wonder if 'Chicken' will be the next single.

Nothing much but PPLUK says 'Chicken' is 4m 22s. Standard Pixies 2.0 length then.

The album is future date save-able to playlists, if one is inclined to seek that out. No cover art yet.

Chicken is available to hear now. It’s pretty, a Frank Black song really. I’m just not a fan of Charles’ songwriting these days I guess. It’s fine.

Yes, particularly nice work by Joey. It's a pleasant/atmospheric song, but at the same time not a particularly grabbing single. I'll withhold judgement for how it works with the album as a whole, since Doggerel ended up being more than the sum of its parts despite the singles seeming underwhelming at first.

The artwork is pretty anonymous, no?

My initial reactions are positive

Dig the album cover art

Dig the first two songs we've heard

Impatient sounds like a poppy Frank tune, not sure it's strong enough to hold the second spot on the album, but it's a catchy ditty nonethless and definitely sounds like our man to me

Chicken - really dig it after the fist listen. For those who want some weirdness, doesn't Chicken help in that department?

I'm with you Mr. Goodman

Also I forgot to mention, it seems like there is a parallel universe where Frank Black was a 1950s / early 60s musician (Duke of Earl), and his 1950s tunes are showing up on some of these 2.0 albums. I mention that here because the title of this album sounds like a 1950s B Movie.

Really interesting article from Rolling Stone in case it hasn't been posted elsewhere.... Emma was called by Tom Dalgety in early 2024 with an urgent request to come out of music retirement to help finish this Pixies album. Emma agreed and recorded her parts remotely in the UK with Tom before ever meeting Charles, Joey, and Dave in person. She just jumped in and replaced Paz's parts I assume. Then she learned all of Bossanova/Trompe for the March tour, and only met the band for the first time sometime prior to those shows in LA for rehearsal.... NUTS! https://www.rollingstone.com/music/music-features/pixies-the-night-the-zombies-came-album-1235065123/?fbclid=IwZXh0bgNhZW0CMTEAAR37H-nMGGWrhYdSbtK0UXRzb5R5S6vlUAtQ3gT5vcD42oGpeGlscfqCfrc_aem_e_n57OM3cxipllS_dIO9Tg

Sounds like the title of a Roky Erickson compilation.

I'm less convinced that it scratches the need for weirdness - it seems quite straightforward in terms of melody, chord-progression, and timing. This isn't to say I'm putting the song down for this reason, as it's too early to tell.

I think it's been mentioned before but it seems like Emma's vocals don't quite provide the counterpoint that Paz or Kim's higher register did. The vocals are serviceable (she probably has better pitch than Paz) but they almost fade or gel into the background.

Don’t know what to make of this, which is probably a good sign. Will leave be till the album comes out. For sure an improvement on Vault of Heaven which I disliked pretty quickly. The big volume change on the chorus is there again, horrible on headphones.

Yes, someone on Facebook mentioned his unreleased writing sessions with Bobby Bare Jr in this regard. Supposedly Bare and FBF also wrote 50s stuff.

Lyrically I think FBF wants to be more simple and direct these days. Like his pal Reid Paley.

Likewise, I'll reserve judgement until I've heard the album. It reminds me of Silver Snail. An odd choice for a single, for what it's worth.
