Well, first reaction is there's a lot more than a moon going on in this one. |

Seems like Dregs of the Wine is getting some of the best reviews of the first batch of 3 Doggerel tunes.
I would say it's also a nominee for the best song title thread. |

I'm nerding out on Doggerel and I have to admit that Vault of Heaven and this one get some really good response on social media.
Just one or two No Kim No Deal-reactions but a lot of praise for BTE and this new songs

It's a lot better than the other two. Though the blandness of the lyrics still make me a bit sad, particularly the chorus. |

Definitely better than Moon and Vault A part of it sounds like The Who, that's right Really like the spoken part (reminiscent of Indie Cindy?) and the unexpected tonal transposition in the chorus Lyrics are still meh

PUERTO RICO PIXIE
Sounds positive.
Will anyone ever review an FBF record without comparing it to SR?

To be fair, if I were to voice a criticism of the lyrics I would say that it’s a little unsettling to hear the phrase “make love to you” coming from the lips of Black Francis. Maybe I’m off about that |

Nice to see some positive reviews but I am frustrated, it's nearly 3 weeks till the album is out! I don' remember reviews for other 3 Pixies 2.0 come out this far ahead of the release date. Or have I got that wrong? Maybe the BTE podcast clouded my memory. |

In all honesty it's pretty mild after hearing him singing "inside of you, all the way, everday" or "when I go down on you", haha. Both good songs in my book!
Glad to see the album is getting some positive reviews - although I have to disagree with Uncut's diss of Blue Eyed Hexe, which is an absolute banger. |

In the car today and VoH comes on the radio - the old unexpected familiarity mind trick - sounded good and gave me a bit of a buzz for a while, until around the end of the song when the goofy la la la voice comes to ruin everything. What were they thinking? |

It's goofy and tacky, not my favorite bit. But those vocals are a bit burried. Could be fun with an extra guitar, or some percussion added. You know, since they play that bit like 4 times in a row

Vault is a real Frankenstein’s monster, but I’ve been digging it. The stanzas sound like a rehash of a Head Carrier track, maybe Plaster of Paris or something else on side b? The la’s or ah’s or whatever they are sound fine to me. |

I have no problem with the la la la's. The doubling down of the Seven Eleven being "pretty great" lyric is what sticks out to me. |

The La La LA’s remind me of BagBoy - which to be fair in the context of a recent fresh head relisten sounded better on the album compared to the first time I heard it - I think it’s a slightly less shouty version and the shouty bits come in just at the end instead of the beginning
Anyway I think I figured out why VoH sounded better when it came on the radio when I was driving than when I first heard it - same thing happened with one of the BTE initial promo tracks only this time it was in the context of cooking in the kitchen - a daily chore which often goes well with uplifting music
If I hear a new Pixies song as a promo then I’m judging it in the context of the Pixies back catalogue, which has set the bar pretty high - whereas if it comes on Radio 6 when I’m not expecting it then I’m judging it in the context of the general run of the mill dross you get on the radio where less than one in three songs are worth listening to. What this basically means is whatever the album is like, it might not be up there with the 1.0 stuff but at least it will be better than most shite coming out these days |

Literally the only thing I like in the song. |

Yeah. I find the song pretty boring. The Las perk my ears up. I'm having trouble understanding what's so offensive about them, seems like a pretty standard Pixies kind of thing to me. |

Doggerel review
Doolittle and Surfer Rosa first.
Trompe Le Monde no. 7.
Give me a break...
Any ranking list which does not feature Trompe Le Monde no. 1, followed by many blank lines, is not to be taken seriously.
I joined the cult of Souled American / 'cause they are a damn' fine band |

I ended up in... army crates. I keep wanting to sing that.
Not a huge fan of the la la las myself - just sounds like them Pixies-ifying things too much.

The La’s are just a bit too Tellytubbies, otherwise I’m not against La’s in general |

Anyone want to place bets/guesses on what the metacritic score will be for this one? This doesn't mean what you think the album will deserve, but what the average critical score/consensus will be.
Indie Cindy had a 62 Head Carrier a 64 Beneath the Eyrie a 70
I'm think somewhere between 72-74, so I'll say 73. |
