Keep your eyes and ears peeled next week. Our first taste of Doggerel is almost here.

Is it my eyesight or does the "P" in the logo also look like an "F"? |

It does, and it’s weird that got through quality control. |

Great news - I suppose we heard Graveyard Hill around this time before the September (if I'm correct?) release of BTE.
It's going to be weird seeing the first non Vaughan Oliver design. He did such a good job of capturing the darkness/violence/sexuality/eccentricity underlying their music, I worry that will be lost in favour of a more generic indie-pop/rock aesthetic. (Lord, I overthink these things...) |

Allmusic has a picture of Doggerel's artcover. Don't know if it's the official one. |

Unless it's on purpose to reflect what many of us on this forum believe, that the band truly is FB & the P's. |

I would think it must be. To save everyone the trouble of looking it up:

A lot of people have been crapping on this cover, but I love it. "Feels" like something from the classic era, but also still feels new. Only qualm is the P that looks like an F |

Instead of calling them Pixies 2.0 now we can call them the Fixies, which is not half bad |

And I too like this cover just fine, better than IC or HC. Makes me wonder if we will get some Martian vibes |

Yeah, the artwork is fine. I like the textures/colours in the painting on the top half.

Or Two P’s - which might be a clue that it’s a double album?
Or simply a case of the best way to do something equivalently weird with the letter P
Actually I think I’ve worked out what’s going on there - if you look closely there are (sort of) two copies of each letter within each letter - if you see what I mean? Again, therefore it’s a DOUBLE ALBUM!!
EDIT AGAIN - or it’s like they are copying and pasting multiple copies of each letter in the same direction by small increments to create this effect - if you understand what I mean again (obvs this doesn’t apply 100% in exactly the same way with each letter)
It’s a good logo I like it |

Looks very 80s / 90s 4AD to me. The top section reminds me a little of Wave of Mutilation compilation artwork. Abstract alien phallicism. The bottom section at first glance really reminds me of the Amps Pacer artwork, same colours / shades. The logo initially looked cheap but on closer inspection its quite a nice optical illusion. I haven't figured it out though that's its charm. I'd say it's on par with BTE and better than IC and HC. |

Some interview snippets starting to pop up on facebook https://fb.watch/dsOysaaGtZ/
Wonder if these will just be a small series of promotional interviews, or whether we might have a documentary to accompany the album, ala the BTE podcast? Doubtful, but would be neat. |

I do like the cover, much more than Indie Cindy and Head Carrier. I am trying to work out what kind of musical feel to take from it. Perhaps a bit more reverby this time with a twinge of electronica. |

New artwork is great. It's not like the fonts were any good since IC...

Good point! I was thinking a bit more cloying, like Bossanova. |

I want to see the board with all the demos and what's been crossed out!
I didn't realise Dalgetty looked so much like a younger Daniel Kitson.. |

I'm glad to hear there will be another podcast (even if an episode rather than season), but I wonder why it would be released almost four months before the album comes out, rather than in the weeks before? (Not that it matters to me) |

Snippets that we hear in that clip tragically sound very….Tom Dalgety, but oh well. It is what it is at this point. But Human Crime sounded almost competent so fingers crossed |

What would you describe as the Tom Dalgety sound? I was happy with the production of BTE, but think I may have heard what you mean. |

The Dalgety sound to me is more a lack of a sound than a specific sound. |

Really? On BTE the drums have a very distinct sound (lot's of bass drum). And lot's of (lead) vocals and guitar are drenched in echo/delay.

The snippets have me pumped. It's not going to please the snobs I guess, but as a Bossanova- and BTE-fan I'm pleased.
It's what me surprises the most after 2004. Pixies keep on relying on Surface Rosa and Doolittle, but their new music seems more like Bossa/TLM to me. Which is good. I don't think you can write with that Come On Pilgrim-energy for very long anyway.
Hot take: If they would have played more album cuts from Bossanova and Trompe, from 2004 on, their reunion records would be more acceptable to critics and the festival crowds.

I love Boss and Trompe. I also love the new songs as songs (and think they sound great performed live). Unfortunately Dalgety's recordings just sound like ass to me.
Not a "snob," I don't even know enough about music/production/tech stuff to have the vocabulary for why. But his recordings are way too muddy and heavy. And disconnected. All the instruments artificially cranked up at the same volume. Just gives me a headache. There's no angularity, no "life," no space, it's like hearing the Pixies suffocate in a butterfly jar. Which is why those BTE demos were such a breath of fresh air by comparison.
Anyways, still cannot wait. Human Crime sounded marginally better, but no matter how it sounds I'm always eager to hear new FBF content. I'm sure they'll be great live no matter how the record sounds |
