Bel Espirit - the chimpanzee line, still makes me cringe. Baal’s Back - it’s loud and BF yells which is usually a winger but it’s the Blue Eyed Hexe third verse type of yelling which doesn’t really resonate. |

Indie Cindy. Really don't enjoy that kind of macho/stilted part in the first minute. I'm not a fan of the whole concept behind this song and it also loses a lot of points for inspiring the worst pixies album title.
Snakes. Snakes / Are coming to your town / In tunnels underground / Some travelling overground - just can't live with the underground overground lines for whatever reason.
I agree with you on snakes - I always notice that line as well.
I think the "macho/stilted" verses of Indie Cindy contrast nicely with the vulnerable and insecure choruses.
Seems like Frank was trying to channel Mark E. Smith with Indie Cindy and Bag Boy - it didn't fully work, but it was an interesting experiment.

Active Duck, interesting take on Indie Cindy. I actually like the concept of that song, but I feel like it didn't pull it off in the execution. I still think that old solo performance of it by FB is one of the best. It never sounds that good live with the whole 2.0 band. The macho-ness of IC song also seems to go along with Bagboy maybe? But I agree, worst album title of any Pixies album. It never seemed right.
I wish I could give well thought out reasons for why I don't like BB. I just don't like it. It sounds too much like a strained attempt to sound like something that isn't really coming naturally. I think St. Nazaire is a much better attempt to capture what Baal's Back could not.
Snakes sounds like a FB quickie that Joey kind of spiced up a bit. It's got some weirdness going for it. But not the best for sure.
I thought Bagboy was my, no contest, no.1 choice to vote off but listening to the survivor playlist I was surprised that my feelings on it aren't really all that strong. That would possibly change if I listened to a live performance though - I feel like they never managed to get it to flow live. |

Bagboy always seems to bring up a lot of discussions / strong feelings. It's quite polarizing. I got the feeling that the original 2.0 line up was not into the parts that they had to sing / chant. Hence the version of the song that has less of that. Eventually it fell out of the live rotation. |

For me ultimately Bag Boy and a few other songs on Indie Cindy feel like the Pixies to me, because they are weird and unexpected and kind of indefinable (and also rockin'). I appreciate that more than the basically pleasant Head Carrier songs, which was a "return to form" in most people's eyes, for some bizarre reason. |

Yeah, bag boy feels like FB pushing it, testing boundaries and testing audience patience / expectations, which is great. HC maybe would be considered a much safer effort.

Totally agree Indie Cindy is a poor title... but the song coudl have been really great, and yes this solo version by BF was so raw and promising, instead of the sugary thing Gil Norton made
Baal's back album version is meh, but the first live versions we heard before HC was released (like in Lisbon) were really intense and true
Snakes has awful chorus lyrics (not as bad as Another Toe but almost), and it's too unsophisticated for Pixies, for sure

Snakes is unsophisticated? How odd. I would call it quintessential Pixies. Interesting musical arrangement, the timing is really strange and unorthodox, etc. |

When I think sophisticated Pixies I think Peachy Peace and Kissy Kiss. Now those are some sophisticated lyrics!
Stormy Weather is another sophisticated tune for sure. U-Mass has some glorious sophistication as well. |

OK - I'm killing all four: "Tenement", "Snail", "Baal's" and "Bel" (don't know why, but I actually like "Bel Espirit").
Hopefully, this will speed things up (and make things more difficult)....
Let's go - new round! |

Just vote for your least favorite Pixies 2.0 song and every few days I will remove the song with the most votes. In the end, we'll hopefully have a trim, punchy 2.0 collection of 12 songs (continuing in the 2.0 format).
Here's the list (46 songs!!):
All I Think About Now All the Saints Andro Queen
Another Toe in the Ocean
Baal's Back Bagboy
Bel Esprit Bird of Prey Blue Eyed Hexe Catfish Kate Caught in a Dream Chapel Hill Classic Masher Daniel Boone Death Horizon Greens and Blues Head Carrier Hey, Debussy How I Learned to Earn Rewards I Just Can't Break It to You In the Arms of Mrs. Mark of Cain Indie Cindy
Jaime Bravo
Long Rider Los Surfers Muertos Magdalena 318 Mal De Mer
Might as Well Be Gone On Graveyard Hill Oona Plaster of Paris Please Don't Go Ready for Love
Ring the Bell Silver Bullet
Silver Snail Snakes St. Nazaire Talent
Tenement Song The Good Works of Cyrus This Is My Fate Um Chagga Lagga Under the Marigold What Goes Boom Women of War
I also put together a 2.0 Survivor playlist for those that have Spotify (includes everything except 'Women of War'):

Hmmm
In many ways this will be a challenging part of the match, because there are many songs that are good but not great, don't feel really strongly about.
Got to think about it some more |

You know, I just listened to my two votes again.
Chapel Hill I will stick with, first because it's so short and second because it really just feels like them jamming and being weird, WHICH IS AWESOME, but still, hard to think of it as a legit song that could dethrone an album track.
Under the Marigold I'll stick with too. It's a fine FBF toe tapper, he's the master of those, but it seems like it would fit more on SMYT or Honeycomb than on a Pixies album. So those are my two votes this round for sure. |

Please Don't Go - probably my least favorite Pixies 2.0 song, it sounds like an average Honeycomb or FM/RM take. How I Learned to Earn Rewards |

Graveyard Hill is cool, not very Pixies sounding to me, more like Catholics or something from solo BF era, not really an FB song either. Snakes is just a weird tune that I like, nothing I can't live without, so au revoir to both.
I'm gonna stick with Chapel Hill, there's just not much too it. It's a scrap as he calls them that got sort of released.
I will join our host and vote for I Just Can't Break It To You. I like it but there's so many songs on the same basic label, something has to go.

Sheesh -- weird split among some pretty sucky songs (IMO):
Chapel Hill 2 Can’t Break It 3 Talent 2 Women of War 1 Ready for Love 2
If no objections, I say all should die at this stage except WoW (which will die soon, I'm sure, but....).

I have no objections BunsenH, other than to ask if the game should be prolonged to give us something to think about other than what's happening in the world. But I get it, the middle pack of songs is kind of swampy so may as well move through it. |

I'm voting for (or against): Daniel Boone & This is my Fate
Daniel Boone: it's good, but it sounds like some late-90's Radiohead song ? (except the bass lines style) This is my fate: some parts really sounds too much like Pink Floyd "Money". But live versions are nice.
