Ring the Bell
(If someone votes for Baal's Back I will change my vote to that).
And by the way Women of War is a really fun song! He'll give you conditions! |

I love Women of War, I'm honestly confused why people keep mentioning it. |

Ring the Bell for me also.
The other day I tried to make a 12-15 song best of 2.0 tracklist and it was tougher than I thought it'd be. I had trouble cutting down BtE. It reminded me of when I tried to do the same thing with the Catholics once, and got stuck with like 8 songs off Dog in the Sand. |

Overwhelming support to vote off 'Ring the Bell'. It's gone. With so many 2.0 songs, I realize we should speed things up. So, I will kill two songs each round until we're about half way through. Feel free to cast two votes now. Here are my two:

Can I vote for Baal's Back twice?
If not,

Might As Well Be Gone Bel Espirit
Both too simple lyrically and musically. Similar tempo and straightforward format. No edge at all. |

I feel if you have enough disdain, you should be able to vote twice. Feel free to change your vote if you like.

I remember from last time around how many people dislike 'Might As Well Be Gone'. I kind of like it. Just curious - what's so bad about it?

I find it just painfully simple from BF in terms of songwriting. It’s plain, it’s pleasant (yuck), and just sits there and plays on through without making any impact. Same with Bel Espirit. Just don’t see any inspiration behind either. They are just songs that fill the album. |

Oh, two. Then I pick Baals Back and Long Rider.
How Long Rider isn't derided as much as Another Toe around here is beyond me. |

Some of us love Long Rider as much as we love Another Toe, which is quite a lot.

I hear you about the chorus. But, here's my take: (1) *very* interesting intro and bridge, (2) very creative verses with a lot of tension, (3) yes, the chorus is *typical* and repetitive, but after the tension, it sort of acts like a break/relief, which isn't the worst thing.

Do we have a thread on the least Pixies-sounding Pixies song of all time? If we do, my vote would be Might As Well Be Gone would get my vote. I don’t detest it, but it’s so... blah |

I am just absolutely baffled about what people are saying about Might As Well Be Gone.
The verses are very typical weird Frank songwriting, full of a strange tense tone and timing, the intro is awesome too, the chorus is sweet and catchy like tons of Catholics songs are. I would say its one of the 3 best or so on that album. |

Honestly this is equally baffling to me. To each his own folks, guess that’s part of what makes this game fun. |

I want to vote twice for whatever saves Baal's Back. Long Rider? I like that song, but whatever.
Also I think being able to vote for the same song twice is probably a bad idea. |

Killed 'Long Rider' and 'Might as Well Be Gone'.
By the way, aren't the choruses to 'Long Rider' and 'Tenement Song' essentially the same. I'm surprised 'Tenement' survives....
Let's kill two more. |

Baal's Back and Baal's Back
Love Long Rider, sad to see it go. But I also really like Tenement Song so that might explain that.

I Just Can't Break it to You Bel Esprit (good enough music and the vocal interplay between Frank and Paz is nice, but I find the lyrics distracting).
Also, I'm in agreement that we shouldn't allow double votes. Seems to be the only reason Long Rider got voted out so early. |

Indie Cindy. Really don't enjoy that kind of macho/stilted part in the first minute. I'm not a fan of the whole concept behind this song and it also loses a lot of points for inspiring the worst pixies album title.
Snakes. Snakes / Are coming to your town / In tunnels underground / Some travelling overground - just can't live with the underground overground lines for whatever reason.

The clear 'winner' is Tenement, then a three-way tie between Snail, Baal's and Bel. Can someone cast a tie breaker?

I love when people share the reasons why they are voting off songs.
Active Duck, interesting take on Indie Cindy. I actually like the concept of that song, but I feel like it didn't pull it off in the execution. I still think that old solo performance of it by FB is one of the best. It never sounds that good live with the whole 2.0 band. The macho-ness of IC song also seems to go along with Bagboy maybe? But I agree, worst album title of any Pixies album. It never seemed right.
I wish I could give well thought out reasons for why I don't like BB. I just don't like it. It sounds too much like a strained attempt to sound like something that isn't really coming naturally. I think St. Nazaire is a much better attempt to capture what Baal's Back could not.
Snakes sounds like a FB quickie that Joey kind of spiced up a bit. It's got some weirdness going for it. But not the best for sure. |
