This is Motorway to Roswell piano ending right ?

Yes that's it EXACTLY! Almost like an oak aged Roswell.
And the ending 3-chord guitar riff sounds a lot like some other Pixies 3-chord ending guitar riff, but I can't put my finger on it. Crackity Jones ?

Got it ! Same ending riff as "Lovely Day" (from Trompe).
so... Mrs Mark of Cain ending is a pot-pourri of Lovely Day and Motorway to Roswell

I'm bored so I made a little clip to compare endings of Lovely Day + Motorway to Roswell VS Mrs Mark of Cain

Nice. Kind of reminds me of this one (the end of every AC/DC song)

Very cool to hear how that song came together. Charles really is half man. |

It's really impressive to see the jigsaw pieces come together. Makes you appreciate the creativity and hard work of these musicians even more. I'm enjoying the inside look into their process. So far the podcast is adding to the experience leading up to September. Excited to hear more. And I'm looking forward to those demos. Chapel Hill sounds good to my ears, though we haven't heard any vocals from it yet, have we? |

Enjoy today's episode. A bit more low-key than last time. Like the sound of Chapel Hill. Also enjoyed hearing Graveyard Hill develop with Charles Singing the most rubbish lyrics on the takes as they were teasing out the song.
A bit disappointed not to get too much brand-new stuff compared to last week, however, I just realised if you go onto the Pixies twitter feed in the advert for Episode 2 there is the opening of bars of Cain, (not in fact ON Episode 2) and it sounds fricking AMAZING. |

Lot of “hill” on their mind it seems
I think the narrator is fine. I wouldn’t want him trying to make it about himself in anyway. He’s just there to move it along |

I don't understand everything they say (I'm french-speaking) but did I just heard Charles yelling "DRYIER DRUMS !" to Dalgety ?
Listening to Graveyard Hill, it sounds like Dalgety heard "muffled drums !" instead.
(I guess "dryer drums" doesn't refer to the studio's washing machine maintenance ) ___ "Service Unavailable" |

By the way what do people think of the opening bars of Chapel Hill at 07:00? I think this is my favourite snippet so far. |

Me too, but I don't really like Charles' way of singing it. I liked the guitars at 16:55 in episode 1

I found it pretty astonishing that the lead single for the album was this very very new and very very rough song introduced while the recording was already underway. That's amazing. This podcast is great. |

I was assuming those vocals were just dummy phrases a bit like on 'Whaleback Hill'. But yes agree. I hope they are changed on the final version.

Whaleback Hill was a more intriguing title than Graveyard Hill

Episode 3 is up!
Love the ending of This Is My Fate. Not sure how it will turn out, fully produced.
There are some nice spoilers for next episode.

Dalgety's reason was that "it doesn't roll off the tongue" ? |

Same here, it's clunky. Glad they changed it. I'm very surprised by Dalgety's input thus far. His opinions and ideas have a lot more sway on everyone than I would've expected given such an experienced group. Wondering if Charles is always so laid back and open to suggestions as he is here. He hasn't been featured much but Joey sounds in good form based on the snippets. |

Getting into it now, Dalgety and Paz coming across really well - exactly the right kind of positivity you want around you when you're working. Like the way they're giving us intro's/outros to give an idea of evolution without spoiling too much. |

That's what a producer should do if you ask me. Giving advice, using his scissors and cut if necessary. I always felt that that was missing on Indie Cindy for some reason.

I’ve thought that FBF is the definition of laid back: writing lyrics on the fly (in the studio), making it up as he goes, recording it live. I think it’ is (and was) other band members who were not so laid back. |

Nothing of what we've heard so far indicates Joey is very laid back when recording.
I've been enjoying the conversations around the arrangements - adding/removing parts etc. They're in the studio, surrounded by their gear but they still verbalise parts rather than play them.
It must be hell trying to remember what's in/out when you're going for so many takes on a song in an hour without having the muscle memory of how that song works.. |

I remember him saying that as early as Bossanova, he kind of lost that hability to write lyrics fast, at the last second. Maybe he did that on some songs, probably not on whole albums (I think even Doolittle was pre-produced with Gil Norton months before the actual recording)

I thought Bossanova was the album that he was actually writing in the studio while everybody was waiting. Maybe for Ana or All Over The World? Obviously if I found the source that would help corroborate.
And I think he referred to FMRM as "quickes" in the sense that he wrote the songs fast (Fast Man pun goes here). |

Just catching up on episode 2. Paz, for seemingly no reason, at 6:18 or so, sings out a recurring theme from The Beach Boys Smile that precedes the Child Is The Father Of The Man sections. Interesting.

He said he kind of lost his ability to write fast in that 2001 documentary (can't find it on Youtube anymore). It's from the part where they start talking about the Bossa/Trompe era, where Charles kind of acknowledge he lost his ability write fast and he regrets not having "re-written" some songs.

He should re-write them now and release them on an upcoming 2.0 album. Who wouldn't want to hear the final draft of Stormy Weather? |
