Can't believe BLD is looking likely to go next, my favourite Catholics album after Dog. I'll vote FB&C's to save it

I think the only track I've ever seen BF play live is off BLD: Black Rider.
I'm on the fence with all of them personally. They are all albums with a few great tracks and the rest is filler, but FB&C is the most rocking one. I like the rawness off it, and the fact it was recorded in two days to see how it went and he loved it and just released it as it was. So it's the last one I'll vote for. |

I'm only half serious when I say this, but may I propose that all those who voted for BLD or FB&C's change their votes to SMYT. This way two albums that you love survive another week. No one has given any good reason for keeping SMYT around this long. |

SMYT is really solid, it's not the best Catholics album but it's consistently good. Also, it's their last stand so I'm keeping it in for sentimental reasons.. |

But other than that nothing really blows me away like on the other remaining albums. I could probably name all the songs but ask me to sequence the album correctly and I'd struggle. It just hasn't made that impression on me.
Eheh.. two of my least favorites on the album for me. And I love 'I Will RAY'. But completely disagree with this version being better than the one on SSMVGD. Where is the chiming guitar on the second part? |

I'm surprised SMYT has kept going for this long, but people have given plenty of good reasons for keeping it around.. by not voting for it. |

For me it's a hard choice between BLD and SMYT. Until I decide between them, this is my Catholics rankings:
DITS BLD/SMYT DW One More Road for the Hit FB & C Pistolero
Clearly I love the alt country era. |

The only good reason I have for keeping SMYT over BLD is that I listen to it more often than BLD. Like I said though, they’re about equal to me. Really just splitting hairs on my part. I’m sticking w/ BLD

Another here who thinks Bluefinger is (not perfect but still) a masterpiece
Tight Black Rubber-Angels Come to Comfort You-Your Mouth Into Mine would be in the running for my favorite 3-song stretch in the entire catalog |

Black Letter Days, between my ears holds just the right amount of sadness and hope. Bluefinger, is balls out courageous and Show Me Your Tears is the bitter sweet cherry on top with Massif Centrale, Everything is New, and Manitoba crushing it |

Not a fan of Angels, but for sure Tight Black Rubber and Your Mouth Into Mine are terrific pieces If I could pick 4 non-consecutive songs, Threshold Apprehension + Tight Black Rubber + Your Mouth Into Mine + Bluefinger (the song) would stand very high in his catalog for me

Listened to that run on the way home - I've never noticed it before but if you go into TBR cold, it's got a really obvious Adam Ant vibe to it. |

I'll give you a good reason...the underrated gem When Will Happiness Find Me Again? "She picked up the phone..."
Maybe SMYT survives because it just doesn't give off as strong a feel as BLD or FB&C...and you either connect with that feel or you don't. Somebody described FB&C as "sweaty" and I think that's perfect...it's raw and sweaty. But some people don't like sweaty music! And BLD was described as "sadness and hope"...but some people don't like sad music or want their sad music to be hopeless!
My hypothesis is that SMYT stays safe because it doesn't wear it's vibe on it's sleeve in the same way. Or maybe not
(...Next up, the poster will go too far and risk invalidating all previous statements...)
By the way, I'm prepared to lead the posse voting for DITS when y'all are ready. Aside from "If It Takes All Night" I find it rather ordinary
For this week, I vote BLD |

I think a small part of my (slight preference) for SMYT over BLD is this forum. Not sure exactly when I discovered this place but I'd guess it was in between those releases. Reading stuff on here in the lead-up to SMYT appearing was probably peak FB fanboy for me. |

Would you guys be suspicious if a new forum member named Jimmycagematch showed up and voted for BLD as his first forum post? Asking for a friend.

For all you SMYT fans (I am one as well even though I'm voting against it today) here is a reminder of some SMYT era Frank reminding us what it's all about.

I love SMYT btw. It's definitely peak alt-country Catholics. To me, it's everything they were evolving towards. I feel like they were really starting to cook there with that style then it all ended. Honeycomb and FMRM would have been excellent Catholics albums. I mean, they're excellent as they stand, but still...

"Dog, show me your black Catholic finger."
"I can't."
And with that, if my math is as good as my poetry, it seems to me that FB&C's and Black Letter Days have booked a table for two at the Goodbye Diner (whatever, just woke up).
Week 21 voting starts now:
Gone
Paley and Francis Let the People Speak Sunday Sunny Mill Valley Groove Day Snake Oil Petit Fours One More Road for the Hit Abbabubba Oddballs NSE Indie Cindy Honeycomb Christmass Cult of Ray B-Sides Head Carrier FMRM Pistolero* SVN Fingers* Devil's Workshop Golem Frank Black and the Catholics Self Titled* Black Letter Days*
Still surviving:
Come on Pilgrim Surfer Rosa Doolittle Bossanova Trompe Le Monde Frank Black Self-Titled TOTY Dog in the Sand Show Me Your Tears Bluefinger
