Another tie. I will say that Ring the Bell actually has some really nice melodies--namely when FB starts singing, "I've been up here a long time / And now I see it's high time / To see the gardens once more / To walk with you once more". Every Pixies record needs some nice melodies. The song is ruined, in my opinion, by the awful production and the "Ring the Bell" chorus. Still, there are many songs I would cut before it. No second thoughts about seeing Silver Snail go.
Silver Snail (5) Ring the Bell (5) Bagboy (4) Greens & Blues (1) Talent (1) Indie Cindy (1) Baal’s Back (1)
Round 4 vote: Talent. It's just such standard, boring pop punk stuff.

sad for Snail... now it's time to save Bagboy
My round 4 vote: Talent. Kinda standard punk pop :)

I can't vote against Bagboy just because of the feeling it gave me to be hearing the first real new Pixies song and to have never heard anything like it.
Talent is a fine FB ditty in the vein of CoR or something.
I'm wondering if it's worth voting against Baal's Back again, and quite honestly I listened too it again the other day and it's a little better than I remember.
This time I'm voting down What Goes Boom. I never liked it and the production makes it even worse. A bad way to open an album. |

Plaster of Paris. Because I've listened to HC dozens of time, but I still don't have any idea of which song is this. I'm trying to remember the lyrics or the melody and my mind is blank. So I guess it's forgettable...

Was going to switch back to Indie Cindy but if Vilainde isn't even voting it down then I'm sticking with BAGBOY again. |

I'm voting for Bagboy too. The single version is super annoying with the whole "cover your breath/teeth" thing repeated over and over. Album version is better, but still sounds a bit repetitive & at least two choruses too long.
Boom is amazing except for Joey part -just noise-. Could have been better on the lead. Great hook on chorus "Grace...". But this song -like others on Indie- does not seem to work well live. It sounds empty. They stopped playing it a long time ago.

I probably sound like the old man I've become, but What Goes Boom sounds like nothing but noise to my ears. I don't think they played it live when I saw them with Shattuck in 13. Bagboy, as annoying as it is (and also not that great live) is discernable to my hearing and has a lot of positives going for it. I also think there are several better songs to open IC with than Boom, and that's part of why I dislike it.
Assuming Bagboy doesn't survive round 4 that will mean that there is nothing worse on HC than Toe, Hexe, Snakes, Snail and Bagboy from IC. That's saying a lot.
I'm sticking with What Goes Boom for now, but might switch back to Baal's Back before the final vote for round 4. |

Bagboy and Boom are my two favourite songs by far of Pixies 2.0 (third being Oona) So creative, musically and lyrically I don't say they're perfect (Bagboy could be shorter and do with half of "cover your breath" and Boom is slow and over compressed, but still those live recordings with Shattuck for a TV show were really good)
So much diversity in tastes, strange fan forum, for a weird band

Comparing IC and HC, there's no song on HC that takes the risks that songs like Bagboy, Boom, and Snakes take. HC has a lot of good (and safe) songs, but doesn't really add much to the Pixies cannon. IC did (for better of worse). In the olden days, every album added to the cannon. It seems w HC, they just said, "make us sound like the Pixies." |

Crazy how opinions differ in here.
I always skip my next vote, not because it's a bad song but it just does nothing for me so I gotta go with Andro Queen. |

Gonna go with Talent. Great pummeling noise but the lyrics and repetition are bad. Bag Boy needs saving. It's a fine song except for the cover your breath parts. |

Feels like time to kill another song. For all those that voted for Talent to save Bagboy, we have another tie.
Bagboy (5) Talent (5) Jaime Bravo (3) Andro Queen (2) Plaster of Paris (1) What Goes Boom (1) Greens & Blues (1)
Personally I was surprised to see Bagboy go in such an early round. Also, we've killed our first HC track!
My round 5 vote goes to Jaime Bravo. Too long. Too much sugar. Too predictable of a guitar progression.

Fine song, but a bit weaker than the rest of the list.

A while back I bailed on Baal's Back but now I'm back to it.
It just sounds like he's trying too hard, which is unfortunate because a lot of his harsher BF 2.0 stuff sounds effortless (Threshold for instance).
Bye bye Baal's Back. |

YMAWBG is a fine song but an oddity in the Pixies canon. Reminds me of Neil Young's country stuff.
Anyway, get rid of Jaime. Too long, too contrived a closing track. Fields of Marigold does it better. |

I can't believe that so many people rate 'Bagboy' so low! Still reckon it's their strongest 2.0 track. Anyway, I'm voting 'Jaime Bravo' again. |

It's true a does a great job, but unfortunately applied to a song that is a bit too bland and too long
