Well... I mean, managers don't always have a reputation of consistency of artists. Some do. Many don't. They're there to promote, organize, book shows/rooms/riders, etc. Make sure the sound is gonna be there, make sure the band is gonna get paid. Make sure they have a road crew. A whole host of mostly boring tasks and admin that a band both doesn't and probably shouldn't want to do, but is critical to making sure you're not pissing in the wind. You know... manager shit.

From that myspace article (myspace!! lol) It looks like Joey is directly addressing us and maybe even picpic with this reply, especially because the question wasn't even related to the response. "This is the other thing I wanted to say about current music thing: the CDs will sound superior to what you’re streaming. It’s just a better, better, better quality. But people just don’t know that. It doesn’t have the contingence of streaming but it does sound a lot better. And that’s the way we prefer people to listen to our music — that’s why we’re in the studio in the first place."

I hope, hope, hope that is true....but I doubt it. I don't even think they actually know what we're complaining about. I'm not even convinced they listen to the final masters themselves when they listen to the record. We'll soon find out I guess, crossing my fingers that the CD sounds a lot better. |

I'm with you and tend to agree. It's obviously on his mind though.

In the quietus interview he again says no more solo records, but he also says something about throwing his songs in with those guys.
Who knows |

It sounds like he views the "solo albums vs. Pixies records" thing in a very straightforward way.
It's basically, "I only ever needed to make solo records in the first place because my original band broke up. Now that they're back together, that's where and how my new songs will be recorded and presented. Spending time, energy and money making and promoting solo records while the Pixies are together would only detract from the momentum of - and my commitment to - that band. Plus that's less time for me to be with my family."
If and when the day comes when the Pixies are no longer an active entity, if he is still into writing songs that he wants the public to hear, then it seems he'd be glad to resume the solo career, on his own terms.
I totally get and respect it.
I just hate that there is no mechanism in place anymore that allows us to hear him perform that huge back catalog of non-Pixies material with a tight electric band of some sort.
That's a huge loss for rock music in this modern age.

Great interview as usual from the Quietus. Hopefully he puts his paintings on show on an exhibition or something. Would love to see them all. |

Interesting snippet: Lenchantin: I didn’t want to get too excited until I knew it was on the record. We had a whole bunch of songs that we’d been working on, and this was the last minute, and it was going so quickly. It wasn’t until I got the mixes back and the order of the songs and what Tom picked were the strongest of an entire record, and the first thing I saw was my song at number nine, and I was like, “Wow, OK, this is happening!”
Would love to know how many songs the recorded in total. Maybe Wilson will come back and tell us one day. |
