According to NME and Kim's twitter it seems Pixies have now sacked the new Kim ! Shame, that line up really worked live !

I am absolutely shocked, to be honest. I felt Ms. Shattuck was doing an amazing work, and it seems to me that most of the fan community is of the same opinion. Also, the rest of the band was very pleased with her as well during interviews. Ms. Shattuck also wrote a very polite farewell message, which seems to imply that her leaving was not due to any kind of argument or backstabbing on part of the band. So, what's up with this? The only possible explanation is that Kim Deal is back on board.
But to be honest, having seen the band play with Ms. Shattuck, I think they are much happier and invigorated on stage now, so I actually feel a bit weary about this. Oh well...
If she sees this message, I hope she knows that we really appreciated her work. Best of luck to you!

Boo. This upsets me more that Kim deal leaving. I hope they weren't passive aggressive about it. I hate that shit.

This sucks - she was awesome, and would have added some amazing mojo in future recordings. |

Wow. That was fast.
I really liked the energy of Kim Shattuck on stage and the absolute kick she seemed the have at every show (great contrast as Frank looked quite bored from time to time... and Joey and David are as invisible as always). But I didn't quite like here vocals.
Maybe original Kim is back ? Do the breeders have anything booked in early 2014 ? |

For the last few months, I've had the feeling that Kim toured LSXX because her sister needed the cash, and maybe the rest of the Pixies knew about it, and they've been playing us all for chumps. |

The timing, if anything, is what surprises me the most. Why get rid of a very able replacement before the second leg of the tour?
With the length of time all parties involved have been in the business I don't buy that there was any falling out to the extent of putting the bands future in jeopardy.
Whilst they have admitted they are not great communicators, there wasn't an impression (to me anyway) of disharmony.
Of course I dont know what goes on and the secrecy that goes with the Pixies is Vatican-esque at best, but it definitely gives me the impression that the only valid reason to get rid of Kim S is for a 'bigger fish' to join.
Whether it will be Kim Deal rejoining or PJ Harvey guesting (purely speculation), it is certainly interesting timing and strikes me as the reason why EP2 hasn't been released....yet. |

no!!! seriously, what the hell? in my opinion this can only signal one thing, the return of kim deal. if this turns out to be the case, i have to admit, i'm more disappointed in her return than in her departure. the band have been on fire these past few months - the live shows so much more energetic and inspired than anything the past few years. so bummed to hear this news. kim shattuck rocked. all the best to her.

Another possibility is that they are calling it quits. EP1 was almost universally panned by the critics. Maybe they have decided to hang it up for good. |

The Pixies seems like too big a cash cow for that to happen. |

i agree with BLT. also, suggesting they hang it up would contradict most of fissile's earlier theories about how they are all doing it because they were destitute

They needed money....back in 2004. Obviously you have been in a coma for the last ten years, and don't have a clue as to what's happened since then. |

Frank is now tweeting pics of a bass from his living room. Hoping this doesn't mean he's teaching V.C. Pixies songs. |

Whatever the plan is, surely they are pretty confident about it. Otherwise they wouldn't have let go of Kim Muffs, who is about as good as a replacement can get. |

Maybe Frank is taking over on bass and they're bringing in a female rhythm guitarist/vocalist? Maybe one of Kim D's requirements to come back was to play guitar (her real main instrument) and not bass...

Far from it. She had good energy, but she was never remotely in pitch, and had sloppy bass playing which did make the songs sound weird. I thought she would improve, but she didn't. That being said, Joey has had some pretty big mistakes to.
If VC comes in, then we won't see KD again until the one off, rock and roll hall of fame performance of WIMM sometime in 2025.

i went to see the pixies in october with a friend who plays guitar, and he said joey was the worst guitar player he's ever seen on a stage. he thought it was all very sloppy and full of mistakes. i have no idea about these things, but he wouldn't say that without a good reason.

I don't think good guitar players care much about being sloppy, at least not the really good guitar players. Take Nelson Symonds. http://youtu.be/N9GUA8fJWgM It's nothing to take pride in, but it isn't about music. |

That's probably the reason why Joey is so epic.
That's probably what I like about rock 'n roll.
No need to be virtuoses to be goddam good. And the Pixies were (are) goddam good.
Your friend probably simply doesn't understand what rock music is all about. |
