So Kim S has been sacked after the Pixies last tour, and their next tour begins in mid January. The Breeders play their last reunion show at the end of December with nothing planned for 2014. It makes a compelling case that she will return to the Pixies and possibly sing on the new songs.
There's more than likely a new bass player already in. Delay before early 2014 tour leg is too tiny to take any risk considering how many shows have already been booked. So it was probably already planned when KS was fired.
Time between Breeders tour and Pixies 2014 leg also seems too short for KD to be involved...
As for the new songs... will they ever be released...? Anyone know if EP1 sold well ?

The vinyl was sold out almost immediately (but it was limited). I know I read one interview where they mentioned that Bagboy was a top-selling alternative rock track on iTunes even though it was being given away for free on their website... Bottom line: Has any Pixies release really sold well? They all took years/decades to go gold or platinum.

While Kim Deal's return is the only reason I can figure for why the band would want to lose Kim Shattuck so soon, this is still not a bet that I would take. It just doesn't feel right, not after the way she left.
But I don't know. The band has surprised us before.
I can't imagine the Pixies with a male bass player and male backing vocals... as Frank said, it would be the same as if AC/DC singer was replaced with some chick...
Regarding KD bass playing, I didn't hear any problem ? But I have to admin her vocals were totally off on some songs. (I kind of liked Frank+KS voice on "Classic Masher" at some solo show earlier this year... too bad we will never hear a studio version of this. This was working quite well)
A return of KD would explain why they're holding back the release of EP2 - so as to give her time to rerecord her bass lines & backing vocals and possibly have the project evolve towards the release of a fully fledged LP.
