... uh?
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/EP2_%28Pixies_EP%29
This will probably be edited soon, but as now it says:
Released November 26, 2013 Track listing 1. Tranquilize Me 2. Greens & Blues 3. Pickerel Picker 4. Blue-Eyed Hexe
No idea where this comes from.

That would be great! 26 november seems like a long wait. Second of 5? That makes sense. So much sense that either of us could have put it on wikipedia.

I hope the date is off and it's really coming a month sooner. This is the problem with slowly trickling out the tunes... |

It's tough to wait, but having fans eagerly anticipating every release like this is a very good problem to have. Most bands don't have to ever worry about having that issue. To me, as much as I would love a 14 track album to be available, this seems like a smart move from them overall. |

If this turns out to be true Looking at the song titles The new video might be Tranquilize Me.I previously said Um Chagga Lagga might be the one but as I always say I could be wrong. We already know there's tigers in the video. And how do you tranquilize a tiger? Tranquilizing darts. And on another theory the director twitted that she was working on tiger heads MASHup...Classic MASHer? We'll find out soon!

The "surprise" aspect of these new EPs is such a great idea. If the above is accurate, whoever's leaking this info ain't cool.
Hopefully, it's someone who's just screwing around and making things up. |

I can not wait to hear Classic Masher. It's my favorite of the new tunes Black played at his solos shows earlier this year. |

anyone can put anything on wikipedia. that's why everything must be taken with a grain of salt when reading anything on there. chances are this is bullshit and EP2 tracklist will not look anything like this. |

If nothing else this is going to be an interesting ride. I like the new songs and am looking forward to the next release with Kim S fully integrated into the band.
I am not familiar with her work and look forward to hearing what she brings to the band. |

I'm curious myself - not familiar with her either but those who are aware of her seem to hold her in high regard. What I've seen of her previous work on youtube hasn't impressed me much - she kind of reminds me of Kim Gordon and even a little Courtney Love-ish (neither a good comparison in my book) with the guttural, barfy vocalizations, but I love her stage presence and playing so far with the Pixies. Vocals with the Pixies sound good enough for me though. Just have to wait and see. I'm totally on board regardless.

I am avoiding her work right now. After there are Pixies releases with her on them I will check her stuff out; do not want preconceived notions.
Courtney is not all bad. She did a great job with her role in Sid and Nancy and there is actually Hole I like. Kim Gordon is also excellent.
She and Sonic Youth are a little pretentious, but I like some a good amount their stuff. But even though I like them, they are a bit over hyped. Do they have a bad review?

Hell I don't know, probably. I know I've tried to listen to both of them in the past without much luck, more Sonic Youth than Hole. Actually I'll be honest, I can't stand Hole - that was just a wild ass first impression and I haven't purposely made myself listen to Courtney Love's voice in probably 15 years. Sonic never truly grabbed me, though they have some really really awesome moments that pop out in my mind. I just never cared for that punk female style of vocals I guess (the guttural stuff). I don't like it when guys do it either for that matter. Just saying.
Just stay the course you're on, I was just making some random observations. I really have nothing better to do this week - my wife is out of town all this week and it's just me, the dogs, and housework. EP1 coming out recently plus lots of sitting around in the living room with the laptop leads to probably a lot more forum.frankblack.net posts than I would otherwise indulge in given any other set of circumstances.

Yeah that's the way I understood it. They recorded an album, Kim quit, they had to rerecord her contributions, and did so. I suppose they could sneak Kim II into a studio though to pop in some bass and vocal overdubs. You can take care of that in an afternoon.

One of their albums once had a 0.0 on Pitchfork. Doesn't that suddenly make you more sympathetic towards the band? :)

hey ribcage. keep on keepin it real. i enjoy reading your posts.
you should try hole again and divorce any feeling from any preconceived notions regarding her once-was husband. i think you will find she is actually talented. musically that is. she cant act for shit that's for sure. i personally like America's Sweetheart quite a lot....but i have terrible taste in muzak. haha.
I believe thurston is the real talent in Sonic Youth and Kim Gordon is the Kim Deal of Sonic Youth. just my opinion. Sonic Youth wouldn't be the same without her but if they released a few EPs with Kim X riding sidecar then i would probably bite.
as for re-recording bass lines et cet. a paycheck for the real recorder of said bass lines (dubs/deal/xxx) would probably be a lot easier.

i dig the ep idea. even when i get a new album i typically focus on 3-4 songs then move to others later. but maybe i'm just a bit slower at grasping things! also i think it might help the reviews (if that actually makes any difference.) now that ep1 is out the reviewers may have had a chance to give it more listens and let it digest. plus you potentially get more media exposure....releasing your material over a longer time period rather than just one shot.

Okay, I guess maybe there is a bad review or two out there. But does Pitchfork really count?
And I thought giving EP1 a 1 out of 10 was harsh.

I have similar feelings about Sonic Youth and Courtney Love to some of the other posters here. Sonic Youth is good but totally overrated. Out of their entire catalogue (which I'm sure is over 15 LP's at this point but I can't be bothered to look it up) you could probably only pull together 3 LP's of listenable music (that isn't just noise) and most of it would be off "Dirty" or "Experimental Jet-set Trash and No-Star" (which coincidentally is named after things said in a review of one of their albums.
Courtney has no talent of her own except that she's not a bad guitar player. All Hole's songs on "Live Through This" were ghost-written by Kurt Cobain and all their songs off "Celebrity Skin" were ghost-written by Billy Corgan. Those are her only 2 good LP's IM.
I don't think their going to re-record all the baseline's they've already recorded with Ding Archer but I could see them having Kim S go in to record vocals for songs where her back-up will be prominent live (such as Classic Masher).

I have to respectfully disagree with some about SY. Their later albums are very freakin good, especially Washing Machine, A Thousand Leaves, sonic Nurse, Murray Street and Rather Ripped. All have very good SONGS and not just noise. That may have been true with their earlier stuff, but that view of the band is outdated. They are critical darlings, but for me they earned it. Only issue is that Moore and Gordon have exactly zero vocal range, they always sound the same, but the guitars rule.
Anyway, this is straying pretty well off-topic, so I'll say that EP2 can't come soon enough. |

Good morning fellow Blackheads. Anyone want to estimate the odds that at some point over the next 15 months as Pixies 2.0 evolve and grow they just say screw it and either release all of the Europe material at once or scrap it and go record a new album?

for reasons stated by others, i think the ep idea is good. i'll restate the main one anyway:
lower expectations. these EPs won't be held up against past albums because they aren't albums. it lowers expectations to realistic levels.
on a side note, imagine if kim had left after trompe. then the first thing fans here from the band after 2 or 3 years is this:
NEW EP! 1. sir rockaby 2. headache 3. fiddle riddle 4. hostess with the mostess
riots in the streets.
