Do Pixies choose their opening acts? Glad to see Best Coast will play with them would be great if they invite Bethany Consentino to sing Ana with them.The surf rock element in both bands is a great match.

Will you ever play "Trompe Le Monde" (the song) and "Space I Believe In" live ever again ? (both from the Trompe Le Monde album).
We haven't heard those songs live since 20 years !

1. Are you going to record a new album between tours in 2014? I noticed you've already got one new track with Paz.
2. Will the 3 EPs be released as one album + Bag Boy and any other extra/bonus tracks?
3. Any chance of Kim Deal guesting on new songs?
4. Did Paz play with the Martini's and was she your first choice as new bass player?
5. The tension with Kim S seemed to come mostly from Joey, was this because you wanted her out and Paz in?
6. When are Pixies touring Australia?
7. How come you are doing intelligent and long interviews now when you used to say hardly anything?
8. Will we ever hear Kim Deal on the songs she did with Pixies in Wales? Why wasn't she left on the tracks she completed?
9. Will you ever play on the right of the stage?

Cecilia Ann is a great cover - love the Pixies take on it, why isn't it played live more it is a great intro.
If you were to cover another instrumental surf song (or any song in general) what song would you choose?
Personally I would love to hear FBI by the Shadows covered by Pixies, that would really be something.
Outwith the surf genre Gut Feeling by Devo would make a really great Pixies song. |

I'm pretty sure that there's a cover of Hang on to your Ego out there somewhere and Brackish boy was performed live as a pixies song, from what I can remember I think a partial recording of this performance exists. As for Surf Epic, I'd never even heard of that song till now |

Does the "Hang on to Your Ego" cover feature all Pixies members? I recall that while it is often credited as a Pixies recording, it was really from a FB/BF studio session for John Peel/BBC.
Can any of the experts here verify?

1. Was Kim meant to sing lead vocals on any of the new tracks before she left?
2. Apparently there were 5 tracks already written before going into the studio, which ones were they?
3. What went wrong in the rehearsal space in Somerville, Massachusetts? Apparently it went horribly!
4. If there are plans to repackage the 3EPs and Bagboy in someway, such as an LP, will we see any changes in the production or mix of the songs? For example would we hear an already released song with Paz Lenchantin backing vocals etc.

perhaps instead of "will we ever hear the kim deal tracks" (because we will or we wont), maybe it should be "what were the tracks kim deal played bass on?" |

Kind of but not really. The song is truly an epic, as is the track DITS but in a very different way. Surf Epic is worth listening to a few times in full. The way it shifts its dynamic effortlessly in a couple of places is just excellent. Has the synth sound of EDF and some great drumming which is the wonderful Nick Vincent i presume.
Up there with tossed and adventure in my top instrumental songs.

| I just did the interview and asked a lot of your questions. Joey was very honest, and a really nice guy. Probably one of the coolest guys I've interviewed. He really opened up about the Kim Shattuck thing, and even if you disagree with him I think you'll at least understand where he's coming from. I'll try to transcribe it tonight and have it up tomorrow. |
