Courtney, ever the lady, has such nice things to say about the Pixies.
Dame Love Holds Court
quote: He will allow me to keep Micko and have Melissa, Patty, actually he doesn't want Patty, and Eric, and do some Pixies reunion freakin' nightmare. And I told him just it's never gonna happen ev-er, not doin' it. So, that's not gonna happen ever, and I don't care if that's stupid, it's just not gonna happen—it's something that people do for money, and they're miserable. And if you wanna see true misery, watch that Pixies reunion documentary, it's like an absolute horror show,

I have to agree with her on Loud Quiet Loud, it was terrible. I don't think the Pixies were greatly enamoured with it either. The bit where they met Sigur Ros and no-one knew what to say, that felt really awkward. |

I don't think she was talking about the quality of the documentary, she's claiming that the entire reunion was miserable mess because it was done for no other reason but money. |

Well I think she is wrong. If their only motivation was money then they'd have released an album. Besides, why the fuck not they deserve to be minted for the music they have created. I own all their albums on CD and I paid £5 for each one, so that's £20 of my cash + subsequent gigs. I don't they think had nearly the same energy live on the reunion as they did when I saw them for 15 minutes in 1991. That blew me away, I've never really gotten over the fact that that's all I got to see due to a misfortune with the rig. I'm just happy that I got the chance to see them again. |

The Pixies reunion was a very cool thing that made a lot of people happy. I only saw one reunion show (Dallas, 2004), but the room was packed with people having a great time. I went in a bit cynical (I was, and am, a Frank Black fan and harbored no special nostalgia for the Pixies; Frank has many post-Pixies albums that are equal to the Pixies, as far as I'm concerned) and left totally high on what a fun show it was.
And that's worth something, no?
Another cool thing about the reunion is that it was so popular with young people. I'm talkin' people who were five years old (or younger, or not even born, yet) when Surfer Rosa came out. Most band reunions rely on nostalgic older people. The Pixies reunion, by contrast, found its greatest support in young people who'd never seen the band before. EVERY old band who reunites for a tour wants that. There is no bigger compliment to someones' music than when it's passed down to new generations who love it just as much, or more, than preceding generations. It's a very exclusive club and the Pixies are easily in there.
Hole, uh, aren't. |

I saw the Dayglo Abortions when I was 18. It was a tiny little venue, with about 20 or 30 people.
I requested Stupid Songs and Cretin said, "No. We don't play that anymore. It's too bad for you, it's your fault for being too young when we were here last time! ...fuck off"
I loved that. |

Well said. The crazy part is that I'm pretty sure Hole re-united and recorded a new album recently. Typical Courtney--runnin her mouth, not making sense. |

It's all a bit rich coming from somebody who's values celebrity above creativity. |

Actually, I think Courtney pulled a Billy Corgan and just released a solo album under the Hole name.

It's not really a sell-out tour if every single indie rock fan in the world wants to see your band reunite at least once in their lifetime. It's not like when the Sex Pistols kept reuniting every week strictly for the money, despite that no one really cared anymore. |
