The pot is truly mightier than the sword

I’m any case, sorry you didn’t like Windfall. I quite enjoyed it. Wouldn’t mind to see more like it.

Just binged 4 seasons of Nathan For You. One of the most absurd and cringe inducing shows of all time, hilarious and strangely poignant and human. A great watch if you haven’t seen it.

Windfall was alright - tbh I haven't finished watching it all yet. Jesse Plemons makes it tolerable - but overall I thought it was a bit dull. Maybe I'll check out Rope sometime (which I assume is the film it's based closely upon?)

I just suggested Rope as a possible influence for Windfall, but I haven’t heard anything official to that regard.

Rope was Hitch’s attempt to film an entire movie in one location and in one continuous take while keeping the audience off balance as to the twist. Did he succeed? You’ll have to watch Rope.

Boiling Point

A night of mayhem running a kitchen in a posh restaurant with Stephen Graham as the head chef - highly rated actor these days who seems to nail it every time. Top performances from all the cast and it's all shot in one scene (only spotted one bit where they probably made a hidden cut) the planning that must have gone in to making this!

My compliments to the director - top marks.

So not the MTV hidden camera show of the same name?

Metal Lords

Cross between Bill & Teds and your most hellish cringe nightmare

Tolerable if you used to be into metal or still are. I think I used to own a similar Slayer t-shirt in one scene

Bad film, but I'm watching it

Tony Hawk documentary "Until the Wheels Fall Off" is brilliant.

He's a huge FBF fan (check out his interview of Charles if you haven't seen it)

On HBO Max, definitely worth watching

I feel like it’s designed to be more accessible to non Hawk fans, and I’m sure you’d love the soundtrack, but if you have zero interest in Hawk or skateboard culture then you might be fast forwarding a bunch,

If the soundtrack is dumb 90s skater punk stuff I would not love it!

I not only have zero interest, I used to be part of that in junior high school and hated it so much, I don't think I'd even want to take a trip down memory lane.

The soundtrack is more like Joy Division, Toy Dolls, and mainly 80s stuff, some 70s maybe, not sure if you were around for it but those were those days. 90s had plenty of good skate tunes too.

There's no shortage of documentaries on American sports icons, so it was only a matter of time before Hawk got the treatment. 4 out of 5 stars

I do find Hawk interesting. I went through my skateboard phase for about a year or two in the mid 90s. I still have a scar on my arm from falling off my skateboard and landing on a fence.

I found the other skaters so boring. Like they were terrible conversationalists. Like nothing is more boring to talk about than skateboarding and that's all they talked about. I had nothing in common with them and eventually just stopped doing it, also due to my terrible athletic ability, though for a brief time I wasn't too bad (I could like roll down a hill and jump onto a little sidewalk curb?)

Looper (again) - 10 years old this year and one of the most rewatchable films of the last 10 years - the slightly dystopian future it portrays has grown on me, especially in the last two years

Better Call Saul is amazing and season 6 is great so far. It's genuinely a strange feeling to see such a well-written show after years of watching lots of crap TV. I forgot TV could be good.

I had to rewatch the last ep of the last season to recap - after watching a hundred other TV shows in between season 5 and 6 you lose the plot a bit. Kind of got to grips with who the good and bad Mexicans are again, and every Mexican in between - but I can't really remember the plot from the first season with the Kettlemans - something to do with a bag of cash or something?

Good start to the final season anyway, with a bit of much missed cartel action.

Outer Range on Prime first episode was decent. It's Western sci-fi with Josh Brolin. Will watch second episode and see from there.

We were in the exact same boat. We watched a 20 minute recap video and it of course left the Kettlemans plot out. I can't remember any details. But at the end of the day I think just being aware "these are people Jimmy screwed over" is kind of enough.

It was a good one, but the latest episode of Ozark was also more great drama - Julia Garner really is stealing the show the more we go through this series. I've only caught the first episode in the final segment of S4 though, but it was a good one.

Finished Ozark. Loved it. Look forward to discussing it with you.

This week's Saul episode flew by, felt like it was ten minutes long.

One of my mates from the UK just recommended to me a show called "The Bridge." Can anyone on here confirm or deny it's worth watching?

Ready for Ozark chat any time. I guess there will be SPOILERS - I thought it was a pretty weak final season to be honest, I think I read it was going to be beforehand. But that's not to say it wasn't good though, just a bit of an anticlimax I suppose. Shame they killed Ruth - would have loved to have seen a spin off series with her running the Casino Boat. Julia Garner is great - always worth repeating. I'm going to lay this down here right now and predict that she will win best actress at the Oscars in the year 2030.

Haven't watched The Bridge but it looks like one of these Scandinavian crime dramas or something that seem to turn up a lot on Netflix - I rarely watch them because I prefer not to have to read subtitles, but I've heard some of them are quite good and I've seen a few films from the northern lands that were pretty good.

I thought Ozark 4 was a great final chapter, kept you guessing and subverted many expectations (i.e. Ruth as you mentioned above). Sad to see it end but better to end sooner than later if the quality was going to dip.

Did you watch Julia Garner in that show about Anna Delvey? She was great in that too. True story that is hard to believe.

I finally watched the Color of Money and it has to be one of the worst films I've ever seen. Scorsese, Newman, Cruise, boring as anything I've ever watched. Why didn't anyone warn me?

I started watching Inventing Anna but got a bit bored with it - I guess I'll go back and finish it sometime because wor Julia is in it. I much prefer her playing the fiesty trailer trash hillbilly. What is a female hillbilly called? Is it also just hillbilly, or is it a different spelling - hillbillie?

Just working my way through Russian Doll. It's a bit cringe sometimes but worth sticking with as Natasha Lyone has her funny moments. She was also the funny one in Orange Is The New Black.

Finished Ozark. Enjoyed it from about the last couple of episodes from series 1 and moderately throughout but fucking hated the Byrde's. Thoroughly despised them to be truthful.

But it's only a TV show and that was probably the aim.
