There's a lot of assumptions here.
Do we know if the Pixies without Kim even consider touring?
And according to what I've heard, Kim claims she doesn't have an idea why she pulled out of the album. Apparently she just got up and left one day, and that was it. So how could we possibly find out the real reason, if even Kim doesn't know?
I'd like to find out more about what really happened. I wonder if we ever will.
If that's what really happened (they recorded a new album, but Kim left), I also wonder what's going to happen next. Will they release the album? Will it be released as a Pixies album? Will Kim be on it?

| Actually the knife are a bit like that too, they like to have an air of mystery surround them. Don't do many press interviews or say much about what they are currently doing. There was supposed to be a new album in 2012 and everyone waited patiently, and it never happened... until this year when it finally materialised in April, and in the end it turned out to be a disappointment (for me anyway) |

There was still a lot of hostility between Thompson and Deal, and I suspect the issues are identical to what broke the band up in the first place. During the reunion shows he'd try to act playfully, or be nice toward her, she'd just cringe. Deal has contempt for him, and I can understand why.
It's no secret that the reunion was all about money. Dave was homeless. Joe was barely getting his bills paid. Thompson wanted to start a family. Kim probably didn't need the money to survive, but the Pixies reunion checks are probably what's financing her Breeders hobby. Dave and Joe are set, she doesn't need it, and she won't give Thompson the satisfaction. |

i read that on another forum. it's second or third hand information, but i don't see why anyone would make that up.

If true, I'd say it could be because she's burnt out, can't play/sing like she used to. I could tell from her performance at the 2004 brixton reunuion(friday), too busy puffing on the end of a fag to be bothered singing half of her lines. That's what happens when you abuse your body, I know because I've done it myself (no thanks to the ridiculous drugs laws that prevented me from obtaining cannabis). Also maybe the reason why Mountain battles lacks steam. To be fair she was better on the Doolittle tour, maybe she cut down the fags by then. Singing and chain smoking don't really go together. I know when I used to smoke 40 a day I could hardly string a sentence together without pausing for breath in between.
Maybe she started recording with them and realised she isn't up to it anymore and decided to quit rather than show herself up.
It's just a theory. |

Fool The World has a few but interesting insights on the personality of each member in the band. I got from it that Kim has (ou used to have) a very versatile personality, subject to ups and downs and leading to addictions which made her sometimes unmanageable. If this is the case, I could imagine this kind of impulse to leave the band without a clear explanation (to others and to herself) about the reason(s) behind. In any case, I think that many important decisions people take are more the result of an impulse than an elaborate and analytical thought process. And all this discussion is about artists, not financial analysts! |

Joey has been a successful composer for tv and movies for a while now. not rock star money, but i'm sure he's doing ok. those guys do pretty good. "barely getting bills paid"? so, i take it you are a family member of Joeys and know his personal finances?

Apparently, you've not seen loudQUIETloud. Dave admits to losing his house because he was out of money. Joe admits he was barely making ends meet. Kim states she only agreed to do the reunion because Joe told her he really needed the money to raise his family.

If true, and Kim just disappeared one day, it wouldn't be the first time. John Agnello was one of the many people Kim hired in an attempt to record a follow-up to Last Splash, told the story of how he was trying to get some tracks laid down with Kim at his NYC recording studio, and she just up and disappeared. They finally found her days later at her house on Nantucket Island, no explanation of why she took off. Agnello also posted a very bizarre answering machine message Kim left at his office.
I think it's safe to say that Kim and Kelley are not the most emotionally stable characters in the music biz. |
