Therefore, marketing plans for the album launch are already made AND tour dates are almost certainly already booked. Which makes me think that Kim either organizes the Breeders tour knowingly of these dates, or that she might make them coincide

That's why I don't believe it. The CD is done and off to be pressed, the tour has been booked, the marketing for the CD is in the works and nothing has leaked out? Even the Pentagon doesn't have security like that. |

We know something got done, but we don't know what. How secure is that? Your arguments are weak. Just stop. |

I feel dumb even getting into this argument because a) I have no strong feelings about a new Pixies album (I'd be just as happy with another Black Francis solo album) and b) I don't see the point in speculating so thoroughly about this when we're going to find out what's going on soon enough already.
BUT I think the Pixies could conceivably make an album and keep it a secret. For one thing, they don't need a large crew. They may not even be working with a label. They may be putting it out independently (the way the music industry is today, that's the most lucrative way to do it, anyway).
The CD/vinyl may or may not be at the pressing stage, yet.
And marketing? Yeesh, it's 2013. A simple post to Facebook and Twitter is all the initial marketing that's needed. Pitchfork and the like will pick up on it in about 2.3 seconds. By the end of the day, the news will be everywhere.
That Breeders tour, indeed, does complicate matters, though.
Maybe the Breeders thing will happen in the summer and the Pixies thing will happen in the fall. I don't know.
All I can say is that I don't know what's going to happen, but nothing would surprise me. |

This is sounding evermore like a discussion about the existence of pixies at the bottom of the garden.

I'd die happy if I could see Nick Vincent in concert. I wish they'd release a remix of TOTY with only the drums part. It's perfection from beginning to end.

Funny enough, I don't know if you guys saw that BF posted a picture of his analog (1"..?) tape machine on Facebook, a few days ago, with the message:
" recorded a lotta stuff on this. it's in storage now. maybe it will get used again. i found a buncha unused tape. maybe i'll record on it this weekend. hmmm."
And in the comments section, there was something from Nick Vincent saying: "Bring it on over".
Now this of course is just a bunch of words on the internet, I have no inside info, I'm sure BF just wanted to post a picture of his tape machine, it doesn't mean that there will be a new pixies album or that the mayan calendar says this or that or whatever... But the timing is amusing. |

If David Bowie can create an album on the sly and keep it a secret for so long so can Pixies..
(Yes, Bowie is releasing a new album in March!) |

You might not be totally wrong, since Violet said the demoing process took years If songs such as Dead Man Curve or Gyaneshwar were indeed intended as demos for a Pixies album, and were rejected by Kim, who knows if some other songs got accepted back then? Or have all the new songs been written during the break Charles took one year ago ("need to do some serious songwriting")? Maybe a mix of several moments, over the years. That would be nice, I like when songs age like good wine.

I remember BF saying either in a Q&A vlog (remember those?) or in the King Holds Court thread that he re-used some of the chord progressions of the demos in Bluefinger.

it's heartening that a pixies project still gets this much intense speculation after all this time, and after endless reunion tours. remember how crazy the speculation / anticipation was before the first reunion? all the arguments and drama? where was fissile during that time?

Didn't expect a Pixies "new album" firestorm out of this thread! Man, that ship sailed a long time ago. Personally, I don't think I would want a new Pixies album as it would, almost assuredly, disappoint. Star Wars Prequels anyone?
I'm hoping for a really awesome solo album. It seemed for awhile like we were heading for another golden age with Bluefinger to Svn to Golem, but not much else. Yeah yeah, Duchy and Paley... for me that stuff = filler. I can't tell you, as a fan, what exactly it is I would like to hear. All I know is I haven't been getting it and from the looks of the forum lately, neither has much of anyone else. I just hope it's something fresh yet not TOO fresh (see GD). Hopefully there's something big in the works that will make all of this moot. Hey - gotta talk about something right?

I'm with johnnyribcage. A new Pixies album....well anything less than a masterpiece would be a disappointment. And I might be in the minority here but as much as I love Kim, her voice isn't what it used to be. I just want some new Frank! Loved Bluefinger and The Golem, NSE was really good too despite sounding like it was recorded underwater. And yeh - half of Petit Fours and most of the other GD album was unlistenable for me. I think it's that voice. "Break The angels" is probably one of the most painful songs FB has been associated with for me.
Anyway the best thing about this new album, whatever it is, is that it is not being rushed. Which is great, and not something you can say about much of FB's stuff in the last decade. |

I'm fine with the Pixies going on tour every couple years without a new album. Throw some more b-sides Trompe and Bossa songs into the set, do some more music-noise solos a la Vamos with other songs and have an official last gig if they think they've taken it as far as they can go without new music.

I have to think it's getting a little old for them by now - going through the motions with these 20+ year old songs. Don't get me wrong, I love 'em. I saw them back in [I think] 06 and it was fantastic. My girlfriend loves FBF (I introduced her the first weekend we hung out years ago and Honeycomb kind of became "our album") and I'd love to get her out to see them some time. We've missed BF solo acoustic the last two times he came through Pittsburgh :( really sucks.
Anyway, back to my point: They would probably love to hang it up but it's probably hard to turn down that payday. It's got to be like a nice little ATM for them when everyone gets low on cash. Can't blame them one bit. Also, with the shine kind of worn off the reunion by now, I expect they could care less about a new album at this point. Which as I suggested earlier is more than likely a blessing in disguise.

I'm with 3xArm. I don't get this complaining from longtime fans. These reunion shows aren't for us. We're insignificant. They're for the tens of thousands of newish fans, most of whom have probably never seen Pixies live. It might come as a shock but we don't own Frank. Get over ourselves.

I saw that too. and then "liked" it. and then forgot about it until you mentioned it.
was that the 2-track that pistolero and others were recorded on?

I'm sure he's well aware that his small gaggle of diehards are champing at the bit. That's probably not enough to make him go out of his way to scrape up a PR. Hopefully we hear something soon though. He sure seems to be painting his ass off over on Facebook though.... (Van Vliet syndrome?)
