'Wild Honey Pie' deserves the full studio big sound treatment for a new album. Id be happy if that was the opening track produced by Gil Norton or Tom Waits. |

Here's the tweet
"@geraldmellor @kelleydeal @bubbagail 2013.LastSplash 20th annvrsry wrld tour.Prfct excuse to visit Australia"
Kelley's response - "I told Kim and she said DO IT!"
Seems playful, more than anything. |

No reason why the Pixies couldn't release an album and not tour it? Might be better probably if they don't, because I can well imagine it would end up being a select new album tracks and Doolittle/Rosa/Pilgrim filler tour, which for me anyway would be boring, unless they happen to make an outstandingly gobsmackingly unexpected gem of a return offering, like the equivalent of Susan Boyle's debut on Britain's Got Talent or soemthing like that (only obviously with music that people with taste in music like to listen to)
They need to get creative with whatever they do, if they are making a new album. Don't try to make a 6th album, a follow up to Boss and Tromp. Do something different, but still with a Pixies sound. Get some guest musicians in. Cover some of their solo stuff. They could churn out a million records doing that and make truck loads of cash, and most importantly keep their fans happy. They've all grown older, and their voices have matured, and they don't have the same youthful energy they did, so it's just not going to work in the same way it did 20 years ago no matter how they try.
Just accept 1. they need to do a new album 2. it's never going to compete with their legacy and 3. just churn something out and see what it is like, expand on the whole Pixies thing, like they have already been doing since they split |

What I'd like as BF's next major venture - an 18 track ORGY of an album, entitled BLACKED OUT, that has as its core members BF, Joey Santiago, Ralph Carney, Eric Drew Feldman, Joseph Pope/Dave McCaffrey, Jason Carter/Scott Boutier; also featuring John Linnell, Bob Mould, PJ Harvey, Mick Harvey, A A Newman and J Mascis. Some sort of Golem and TOTY hybrid with a mixture of the former's rugged and raw rock and the latter's pristine poppiness. Also included would be a cover of some obscure surf-rock song, something from Exile on Main Street, and a crazy 10 minute jam of the Stooges song 'Fun House' with Joey and J on guitar and Carney on sax. The cover art would be a photo of BF, naked as the day he was born, punching a wasp. |

Is Black Francis slimming down? He looks like he's dropped a bunch of weight in the last year or so. |

That's pretty damning evidence. Why don't they just come out and say that they are making a new album. |

I really hope this is happening. If Dino. Jr. can do it with success so can they. I'm betting Kim gets more than an 'oooooh' and an 'aaaaaah' on any new songs. I bet Charles had to agree to at least 3 songs for her to sing or co-sing.

It's becoming the worst-kept secret in the music business, isn't it? I remember back when the reunion first started and Bam Thwock was released as an I-Tunes download how Frank said he looked forward to making new Pixies songs and just dropping individual songs on I-Tunes whenever they had a one. Sounds like there will be tons of hype, pressure, and expectations doing it this other way but whatever. I'm sure there are record execs, lawyers, and business managers who say this is the way to go. 'Euphoria' seems like a pretty good choice of words. I wish them well. |

@GrandDuchyMusic just tweeted- 'New vinyl in the works'
whatever that means, as usual everything has to be a cryptic puzzle.
Violet also posted this on Citizens of The Grand Duchy facebook site, the full version. I no longer go on facebook much. Hate the place.
quote: SUMMER UPDATE FOR THE CITIZENS:
Dear All,
It's been a fun, hectic summer as I'm sure it's been for y'all. We felt it was time to reach out and let you know what we've been up to this summer, and what our plans for the coming months are.
Firstly both Black Francis and myself have clocked many miles of biking. There has also been some camping and communing with nature. I spent some time in New York City communing with my godson Winston Bertrand and his mama Jennifer 'Oldham' Bertrand, as well as soaking up inspiration for new writing projects.
WE saw the completion of the ALBERTO TRILOGY. If you haven't watched the entire trilogy, please go to the Grand Duchy official station on You Tube and watch it. The song at the end is a remix of the Grand Duchy track "FACE," by a band called Silverclub. You can't buy it yet, but we intend to press a limited edition vinyl of several remixes and alternate versions from the Let The People Speak sessions in the next couple of months.
As it turns out, I've been invited to write lyrics for and sing on three new Silverclub tracks, and I've done the writing. Now it's time to get into the studio and sing, and I'll keep you posted on that.
Mr. Francis has been in the studio quite a bit lately himself, making demos for a project that does not involve me, but will no doubt involve ALL of you listening with euphoria to the finished product. The demo-ing process for this particular record has been literally YEARS in the making. Who does that unless its something pretty BIG? Recording of this record is taking place in the fall. I'm sure it will be falling into your hands around springtime....
Finally, I will also be working in the studio in the fall, to record my second solo record. The first one, you don't know about because its hidden in my garage in a few medium-sized boxes. I fully intend to share this one with the world. I'm very excited about where my songwriting is going. As usual, it's getting very thematic and conceptual.
Anyway, I truly hope you are all well and having a great summer. Lots of love from the two of us, keep in touch!!!!

I still don't believe it. In the not too distant past, when Charles was asked about new Pixies in the presence of his wife, she would roll her eyes, make condescending snorting noises, and otherwise act like "no way is that gonna ever happen".
When Kim was asked about new Pixies in a relatively recent interview she said, "There may be a new Pixies album, but I'm not gonna be on it."
I'll believe it when I see it. |

If there is a new album coming out, I wonder how successful they will be in preventing a pre-release internet leak? |

No idea. I don't know how these things leak out, but sometimes they do. Last one I remember was the last Yeah Yeahs album, and it forced them to bring forward the release date on iTunes. I'm not usually that interested in the more mainstream music coming out, which is what tends to get leaked. |

I said a couple months back in my post that the new album demos were nearly done and I was correct. My source? A sound engineer from LA who has set aside a few months to work on the album VERY soon. And the other worst kept secret in rock in a world tour for the new album in 2013. I for one am looking forward to hearing some fresh material amongst the old stuff to see how it stacks up. |

Yup, I can see it being one of the slower tracks swathed in Kim's throaty harmonies. And tbh I think they're better off taking a new direction musically (i.e. incorporating BF's alt country leanings heard with the Catholics and in more recent albums) rather than going for Planet of Sound part II etc.
Though Planet of Sound part II is tempting. |

I'd be more in favour of Planet of Sound II else it's not really going to be a Pixies album for me. I can see it sounding a lot like Bluefinger and SVN FNGRS with a more solo BFB sound to it. We also still don't know if Kim is going to feature on the album, it might just be Dave, Joey and Chuck, although that's unlikely. It ought to have lots of screaming in it. |

If there is a lot of screaming on it I hope it's like You Can't Break A Heart and Get Away Oil. I'll never tire of those. But there are times when his efforts on Black Suit rub me the right way but other times when it's a bit grating.
I have a dream scenario of Pixies hanging out with The New Pornographers and having them help flesh out some songs. I'm gonna go to bed and hope this happens. |
