Dave said in that drum sticks interview that Pixies are back in 2013 but he's not at liberty to say what they're doing atm, they're hanging out together, they're rumoured to be making an album, blah blah. There will be too much backlash if they tour the old songs again in 2013, it just wont happen. I for one am sick of listening to the old albums and anything new, even if its not that great, would be a relief.
The last Breeders album was average, the Everybody was something you listen to once, Grand Duchy produced a lot of bad material...why would they continue down the path of mediocracy? |

Hot damn, I just realized the last Breeders album is 4 years old. I thought it was a bit less good than the previous ones but I definitely wouldn't call it average. Still, I get your point.

| I recall an interview where FB was aksed about recording/touring with a Kim replacement where I think his response was somewhere along the lines of "Do it without Kim? I'd be stoned!" (In the biblical sense). I agree. Not a huge fan of them now but as an example Smashing Pumpkins stopped being a credible band when they replaced band members. |

I believe him, he can't do it without Kim, and Kim ain't gonna do it. So why won't Kim do it? I think she's apprehensive about damaging their legacy. I think Kim is very proud of what the Pixies have accomplished, and she doesn't want to see that mucked-up. Mostly though, I think it's about the way Thompson treated her. He broke up the band and then didn't talk to her for 12 years....although he stayed in contact with Dave and Joe. You know what they say about a woman scorned? |

| I don't think it would damage their legacy if they made a new record and it was shite. I think by not making a new album they are doing some harm to their credibility though. Whatever they decide is fine with me, It's not like I am short of bands making new music to follow these days. I'm more keen to see Frank tour solo, he hasn't toured over here solo since Feb 2008. A FB&TC reunion would be great I think. I'd really like to see him collaborate with some people like he did on the FMRM album |

I still think that the best recent news is what Black Francis was quoted as saying in the article where he was asked what his favorite albums were (posted on blackfrancis.net). In case you missed it, the article read:
"Black’s in a good mood. A really good mood. And thankfully for us, a really talkative mood too: “It’s not the first time I’ve been asked to select records I like but, you know, I’ve been so busy lately trying to write songs that when my manager asked me to pick 13 albums, I was like: ‘Oh man!’”
Black’s been writing songs for his next project after the second Grand Duchy album, Let The People Speak, which he’s promoting today: “I have to decide to write a song and it takes me a while to get going. I’m writing a lot of songs right now. My family finds it a little difficult to communicate with me at these points. The next recording session is going to very important. I haven’t made demos like this in years! I’m trying to wow people right now. I’m trying right now to make a good record. I’m overdue.”
So obviously, that doesn't mean he's recording with the Pixies. It just means he's working real hard at making a great record. But for me, it's good news because no matter how, when or where this materializes, it sounds like there's some good stuff on the way. |

Bam Thwok & Ain't That Pretty already did that, for better or worse. Get over it and move on - recording a new album is not going to burst the Pixies bubble imo.

I don't feel that way about Bam Thwok or Ain't That pretty at all. The former feels like it has almost the same kind of throwaway yet weird and intereisting spirit as something like Tony's Theme or Bailey's Walk only filtered through a more Breeders sound. And I think Ain't That pretty at all is the type of cover that the Pixies have always recorded - making the song feel like it was always their's in the first place.
I used to feel 100% against new material but honestly now I don't feel so strongly (especially if the alternative is endlessly repackaging the same songs for tour after tour). Maybe, between their obviously masterful songwriting and Kim's focus on only putting out something that won't tarnish the legacy, just maybe they could make it work. |

| If you take Black Francis quotes from the early 1990s "I am the Pixies" and "I split up the Pixies because I wanted to be center of attention" then all non-Catholcis albums are Pixies records, at least by his reckoning. Everyone I know is sick to death of them touring the old albums (how many times can you hear Debaser and Monkey Gone to Heaven before hating them?) They should just put the sick beast down before they release another compilation album and do another golden oldies tour. If they rehash any more old stuff they have well and truly jumped the shark. |

| The discussion about a new Pixies album has gone on too long. To be honest I gave up wishing for a new album after the Minotaur debacle where seeing the cover art for Minotaur and buying all the hype about the "special announcement" convinced me it had to be a new album. I dont care for rumours or hype, a new Pixies album is beginning to sound like Chinese Deomcracy Pt II. I recall a FB quote about making records that you just have to "get your shit together". Good advice. To quote Tuco from The Good The Bad and The Ugly, "When you have to shoot, shoot. Dont talk." |

- Will 4AD distribute it?

| If the thing Helmut said is true then there's still the chance Joey, Dave and Kim will veto it on the basis of the songs not being good enough. I'm actually a bit reticent about the whole thing now; if it does happen I can see the finished product being quite different to the other albums and thus provoking a bit of a backlash even if the record is half-decent. |

| Kelley recently tweeted that she and Kim are thinking about a Last Splash 20 year tour for 2013. I think that pretty much means no new Pixies, or Pixies tour in 2013. |
