It's not a bad album, by any means. A bunch of the songs were written (and demoed) by Kevin and Jimmy 20 years ago. Some have new lyrics/title changes. Musically, it's a bit pedestrian. But Kevin's vocals are pretty good, and the whole thing sounded brilliant in concert!
The difference with the Pixies is that Charles (and to a lesser extent, Kim) have continued to record since the band's breakup. Yes, the expectation for a new Pixies record would be high, but it's not as if the band have lost touch with what it'd be like recording again.
Kevin Rowland, by the contrast, only put out two albums post 'Don't Stand Me Down - and one of those was a bunch of covers. 'One Day I'm Going to Soar' is an album he's been struggling to make since 1992! |

Let's be serious for ten seconds: why not to fire Kim since she's the one who don't want to do it, and hire a young and sexy bassist instead? I vote for Ginger Reyes. |

That's what I've been trying to say all along!
Only I don't think BF's more mature voice would work as well with the younger Kim Deal little girl voice anymore. I don't know. I'm just listening to Fiona Apple and thinking that her and FB might make a great female male vocal combo in a perhaps more FB&C style? She has a great voice and her husky/gravelly tones I think would work well together.
Who knows, or cares. let them do what them want. As long as people still keep making good music I don't really care where it comes from. |

I'm pretty sure that if the band replaced Kim Deal, the backlash would so huge that seismographs would register sudden vibrations upon announcement of the news. |

I'm sure most of their fans now probably don't even know the name of >2 members the band. The rest are probably getting too old and too far away to be able to jump up and down high enough at the same time. |

Back in 2004, there was a rumor that the Pixies were going to reform, but with Paz Lenchantin replacing Kim Deal on the bass. Maybe that rumor is what motivated Kim to rejoin? |

Or not. There might have been a speculating thread on the forum at the time. Absolutely no evidence for it though. |

Paz is sexy too. I'm all for it. A young, sexy, female bassist to replace Kim. "Gigantic", "Into The White" and "In Heaven" will never be performed by Pixies, but who cares? |

What about V Clark: Fem, plays bass, sings [backing vox]. I'm sure that would go down well..

What about Vince Clark from Yazoo? Bands like to do that whole 80s synth pop thing these days, I think the Pixies should do something like that, take a new direction. |

Lots of bands replace/sub members all the time. Adding someone like EDF is fine, but imo Pixies recording or performing without all 4 original members would be very strange. I just could not see it happening..

Thompson tried to dump Kim after Doolittle, but the other two didn't want to go along. As Kim put it, "Charles wanted to fire me, but Dave and Joe pussied-out." It might have worked if he had gotten rid of her then, but now they're all "chained". I really don't think it would work. They have an unimpeachable legacy now, it would really be sad if it was ruined with a line-up change that produced something that would probably fail. |

Uh huh. Pixies Trompe Tour 2017 with Kim, Frank, Dave and someone else playing lead? The whole is greater than the sum of its parts, but not when it comes to the Pixies. So I think, anyway.
Oh, thoughts on a new album. If they record one, I'll listen to it. Maybe they could record some of Kelley Deal's songs. |

right right. the pixies are my favorite band. and i use the word 'band' very particularly. in that it's these four specific people doing this thing called Pixies.
The Walkmen is another. take someone away and it's just not the same.

Interesting. I agree with you.
But don't forget that The Doors recorded 2 LPs without Morrisson. The Who still tour with neither Moon nor Entwistle. The Stooges are still alive, while Dave Alexander and Ron Asheton are quite dead. MC5 waited until Michael Davis death last February to disband.
And the list goes on... |

Only one actress played Dr. Crusher. A different doctor was on the Enterprise for one season, but they weren't Dr. Crusher. My Dallas knowledge doesn't match my ST-TNG knowledge. |

Frank's been tweeting today. Apparently he enjoyed the Beach Boys concert and had banana and yoghurt today. Clearly he is avoiding giving out any clues about the new pixies album. |
