Excited about this one too. I want to see both qualify so what would be the best result? A high scoring draw? I haven't worked out the math. I hope Donovan's really up for this tournament.

Yep, that's me. Still on the liquids, Food's way overrated in my opinion.

Resorted to cheap national stereotypes there, but it worked. That's my managerial acumen coming to the fore. Languishing in the table a bit at the moment, but expect great things from my team today.

I'd better read the rules as well.

Donovan's looking sharp. Good to see Buddle on the field too. Doesn't your coach own a suit?

wow! has your manager been sleeping?...i think i'm addicted to the substitution thing. on my team, if you don't produce at least 6 points you get subbed out! i got to send a message to my players....hopefully they'll realize this a play better the second round.

We could also gate crash the fantasy league created on the Sonic Youth.com forum and play in that one as well.

Yeah, I got caught napping on the subs during the first few days. My defenders who gave up no goals are on the bench and the rest are on the field (except one on the field did score a goal).

6 points! That's tough management. I gotta aim higher. My first substitution felt good for about a second. Unfortunately I subbed out a Uruguyan (they're playing today) and couldn't reverse the mistake.

My nephew was acting manager but the poor kid is in the middle of exams right now and wasn't showing up to games. AWOL is AWOL. I had to sack him I'm afraid. Didn't you hear about all this on ESPN?

Damn where's benji? He must be ecstatic over Reid's injury time equaliser.

I don't get the substitutions. During the last wc manager game you had to pick a team for the whole first round and had to more or less stick with it. You could only change your team if someone was injured, if I remember correctly.

And now you can change your team every day? And even substitute players who already played, when you are not happy with their points?

Why even pick a squad then? You could just play all 25 or so players and just count the eleven with the highest points.

i agree, seems kind of silly being able to sub in a guy after the original guy played a full game...but the sub thing can work against you. i subbed in some guys that ended up doing worse than the guys i replaced them with...eg villa...very disappointing!! all hype!! i've been tweeting him not stop....

Yeah, I agree it doesn't make sense that you can sub for a guy that's already played but that's the rules. I also don't like that we can't see each other's players. Then how do I know who to root against?

I like that you can bring substitutes on the day their teams are playing. Why would a manager leave them on the bench? The 'gambling on substitutes' aspect adds to the game for me.

I didn't understand the rules and fucked up on the last day. I removed a 7-points guy and put a spanish instead, who only made 2 points I think, cause I didn't know they'd reset the scores before the second round. Damn.

It's different in South Africa. To celebrate a hat trick they play vuvuzela.

I'm quitting this game. I have Mascherano in my team and all he could do was getting a yellow card.

So is it only the players that are on the field when a round closes that earn points? I've been replacing good players with those that are playing on that day to earn the points from that day's games. Is that what you're supposed to do? I'm confused now.

When you sub out a player, you lose that players points.

So I guess the trick is to sub in and out to give as many of your players a chance to earn points then on the last day stick with the players that earned the highest?

Yep, I don't think you lose anything by playing your players in earlier games and then subbing for them if they don't have good games. I didn't figure that out early enough for the first set of games.

I don't think you can sub in a player who's already played, fu. If you remove a player who's earned some points you can't get them back.

LBF's been going transfer nuts. He's on minus 43 points! He must have one helluva team now.

Looking forward to the 26th when we get unlimited free transfers to rebuild our teams.

Yeah, I don't get the rules, I thought I did, but I dont. I did have 47pts, It cost 90pts for 31 transfers I made, but I only need 21 spots, I changed my mind a few times, that was first mistake. Second I didn't know anything about losing points, I was just blinded by the players in my starting line-up. My bench however are the worst players I could find. I still don't know what the fuck is going on but at this point I think I might even prefer it that way.

Can't wait to hear darwin's evaluation of your tactics. They're probably brilliant. You might have busted the whole game even. You can at least be sure we're all envying your starting line-up.

Good going stevio. Hoping something might happen for my team today. 5 of my players are playing. Imagine the sweep you could make if you had all 11 playing the same day.

Substituting conundrum (and brag): I have 3 forwards on the field that already have at 8 points and Ronaldo sitting on the bench. I guess he'll have to stay there.

Yeah, except for the fact I'm not and I'm in last place. I need to make two more transfers but I'm wary, you know, after making 31 previous ones.
