Not as good as the first two, but still excellent (Ready to Start is brilliant).

I saw them live twice this year for the first time. Besides FB they were the greatest concerts I ever attended !

september has new releases from THE WALKMEN, DEERHUNTER, and OF MONTREAL, all of which would be contenders for top 3 albums of the year, but my budget is strapped and i must wait til october to pick those up.

so, sticking with last few months stuff, plus some raveonettes and built to spill, i suspect.

I might have to be really boring and A.O.R.y and vote for the new Richard Thompson album Dream Attic for Septmeber. Kind of reminds me a bit of The Golem, I think this is what the Golem would sound like to me if it were a good album. Ooooooooh controversial.....

You can listen to the new record by THE WALKMEN on NPR till it's release on September 14th. - link - I love Blue as your Blood on it, not sure about what I think of the whole album but it took me a lot of time to get used to their style and small change of direction with the previous record so... I guess it's okay but I miss the intensity of some past gems(also at its peak on the single In The New Year, on the 4th album).

There is also the same thing for the latest record by The Thermals till today, but I don't know if someone knows / likes them here. Personally I was disappointed by most of what followed their 3rd album(that was really great in my opinion) even if I like some particular songs, but I still hope they'll do something really great again one fine day...

I'm also waiting for Of Montreal's next release even if I'm not sure I'll spend as many hours listening to it as with Skeletal Lamping, that I really loved at the time.

Hey thanks I must listen to it even more now! By the way I saw you liked the latest album of MIA, actually there's a song on it that uses a music by Sleigh Bells(a band we were talking about recently), it's Meds and Feds.

Actually I think Sleigh Bells was produced by MIA or something.
Meds And Feds is a great track.

I had read somewhere that it was actually the guy from Sleigh Bells who produced some tracks on this record of MIA, but on the other hand she actually got Sleigh Bells signed on her label or something like that.

Vampires with Dreaming Kids by Twin Sister is pretty good. I also like the new Black Mountain record, probably their best so far.

I'll make sure to check some of them out, thanks for the tips. My two cents for september would definetely be the new Bad Religion album, The Dissent of Man. The new single Devil in Stitches has got a nice ring to it and, being a BR fan for a long time, I'm really looking forward to this. Weezer (I know. Sorry for bringing those up) also got a new record out september, which isn't half-bad. Or right, it's just that; half-bad. Much better than their previous three records, but not up to the late 90's-standard.

I'd say it was more than half-bad.

The new Blonde Redhead Album is pretty good.

I like the new Weezer, especially the background vocals. Still I wouldn't rate it above their first three records.

Surfer Blood and Villagers first records are great also.

I appreciate Weezer more today than I ever did in the 90's. Partly because my four year old really likes them. It's cute to hear him sing "Keep Fishin'" from Maladroit. His other fave' is "Island in the Sun". It's funny how their third album (The Green Album) was once criticized as a poor album, but has now turned into their high point or last great release. I found the Green Album dull at the time and liked Maladroit a little better. I've never seen them live. They are one of those bands I would have liked to see in their hay day.

As for Hurley, it's a grower. One song in particular "Where's My Sex?" sounds to much like "Pork and Beans". Of course my 4 year old loves the song that debuted on the childrens tv show 'Yo Gabba Gabba' called "All My Friends Are Insects".

It's strange what happened to the green album, I for one loved it from the start, as it was packed with powerpop from first track to last; it was a whole lot different than Pinkerton (which also was hated at first, but is now a "classic"... seems like everytime they release something "bad", people raise their previous release to the skies!) and a lot more stable than Maladroit, which has some really good songs. All in all, Maladroit seems like a B-side collection, or "the songs that wouldn't fit on the green album". Nevertheless, I could only imagine the supecuteness of a four year old singing Keep Fishin'. :)

Back on the topic, Hurley does grow. If I hadn't compared it to their better albums, or if another band made it, I would have liked it even more. It has some highlights but in comparison to their three previous releases (Raditude, the red album and Make Believe) this one seems more solid and well-produced. They switched label for this one, to Epitaph, mind you, so maybe that's got something to do with it. I like it so far.

On another not, my personal punkrock-heroes Bad Religion is streaming their new album on their myspace. Dunno if FB fans go for that kind of music usually, but I thought I'd shout it out, as it's frickin' amazing.

PS. There's a kids' show in Sweden called "Gabba Gabba" too, wonder if we've ripped you off or something. Huh. :)

Found this quote on the internets. "Gabba Gabba is a Swedish children's program with definitely-not-children's humor. It stars Jesper Rönndahl among others. Not related to Yo Gabba Gabba in any way."

The Suburbs has given way to the new Interpol, self-titled, which is wicked excellent and elegant and just lovely. Sadly, I cannot say the same about Neil Young's Le Noise. Anybody heard that yet?

Can't say that I have, although I'm gonna check out The Suburbs asap. My guitar hero Satriani is releasing a new album this october, and I've pre-booked it already. I haven't gotten my hopes up for great songs, but I am looking forward to hearing solid production and an awesome sound.

Not that much I'm into this year because I'm out of sync with the current trends and fads in the "indie" scene, hopefully that'll smooth over in a few years.
So far I've liked Black Francis' 2 albums, Black Key's Brother, Grinderman II, Neil Young Le Noise, and Arcade Fire's Suburbs, though i'd think that album is only pretty good.
Grinderman II is my favourite so far.

Hi! Haven't been here in a long time!

I have Dylan LeBlanc's Paupers Field on repeat right now. It's a bit twangy but really cool when you get past that.

...and this guy is ONLY twenty years old!

I actually think it's pretty great!

i've pretty much given up actively checking out all these new bands. all my favorite albums this year have been by established artists. spoon, mgmt, deerhunter, fb, ash, blitzen trapper, gorillaz, the walkmen, new pornos...

Yeah. I'm liking "Hitchhiker" and "Love and War". I need to find the right time to fully appreciate it. A time when I can crank it up.
